Pre-Game Reading:

  • Mike

    Screw the refs

  • jemblue

    Thank goodness we’re a great offensive team…

  • Wayman Britt

If there was ever a time to play some defense now is the time.

    • JDR

      But do they know how?

  • Mattski

Wouldn’t mind Craft’s three back right about now.

  • JDR

    Let’s find that swagger now…

  • JDR

Can. This. Team. Get. A. Stop.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mbainbridge2 Mike Bainbridge

    GET AN EFFIN REBOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jemblue

    Defensive rebounding has been catastrophic.

  • JDR

    THAT’S THE SHOT WE WANTED???

    • Mattski

      Yes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mbainbridge2 Mike Bainbridge

absolutely hate it…Burke step back…who’d a thunk it???

    • Mattski

You decided we had lost ten minutes ago. Thought you had gone to bed.

  • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Headed to overtime, both teams scored 1.28 points per trip in regulation. #shootout

  • MGoTweeter

What is Burke 2 for a lot on those last second step backs? If you are goin to do that don’t screen to bring the bigger Thomas out on a switch. Not smart basketball

  • MGoTweeter

Please someone man up and grab a rebound or take a charge

  • Wayman Britt

I have said it before and I know others disagree, but I don’t like the step back three from 23 feet. Much rather have a drive.

    • Mattski

Love it or hate it, it obviously has the coach’s blessing. And we haven’t been getting a lot on drives. They are tough underneath.

    • mstein23

I’m with you, Wayman. LOVE Trey, but the step back three is not the best shot we can get there.

    • Montreal

Who disagrees? In a tie game, a 2 is as good as a 3. There’s really no case for the step-back 3. It’s not more likely to go in than contested 2. It’s normally better since it’s worth 3 if it goes, but tied, it’s just not. Not when you take into account the potential of a foul being drawn or a last second pass.

  • CCC

i’ve come to grips with the fact that burke’s stepback jumper is his go-to move, one that he’s shot, literally 10s of thousands, maybe 100 thousand times in his life, and the PPP on it is actually decent. but arrrgghhh….

    • davis104

I’d rather the step back not be from 24 feet though

      • CCC

yes. he is annoyingly averse to penetrating in order to shoot those from inside 18 feet. maybe he is more comfortable shooting off a lateral crossover/stepback than a ‘vertical’ pullup? i dunno…

    • jemblue

Is the PPP decent on it?

      • CCC

his PPP on “off the dribble jumpers” is 1.11. stepback is probably slightly lower, although it seems like he shoots as many stepbacks as straightup jumpers. not sure, but i think 1.11 is just at or above average for a college basketball team. as it relates to the michigan offense as a whole and burke’s full arsenal within the offense, or even just in isolation is unknown. although i would think burke’s isolation, non-stepback sample size is probably not large enough to draw any conclusive inferences…

  • Montreal

    1. That’s a terrible shot by Burke. Probably a 30 percent shot or so (step back 3 pt jumper off the dribble) when a 2 (or 1 from 2 from the line) wins it.

    2. A lot of perimeter players make that decision.

    3. He was right to use the switch, but he needed to keep driving. Even if he wouldn’t have beaten his man clean, he might have drawn a foul, drawn help and found a pass or been able to put up a very contested 2, but from 5-10 feet out.

  • jemblue

We definitely seem to miss Morgan on the defensive glass. McGary has done good work on the offensive glass but he’s not the same at the other end.

  • bgerth22

Sorry for the off-game topic, but I’m getting pumped for the big ten tourny watching this game. I bought tickets through UofM three months ago. Does anyone know when they issue those tickets?

  • Mattski

Ill advised three from Timmy. Hard to blame him when he’s been unconsious, though.

  • Wayman Britt

Let’s not totally rely on the three the whole OT period.

    • JDR

Or if we must, let it be Stauskas…

  • MGoTweeter

One stop and one basket and let’s go home

  • CCC

i can’t find trey’s overall ppp, but according to http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-basketball/news/20130130/college-basketball-power-rankings/ he shoots 1.110 on off dribble jumpers. brief googling shows burke is at 1.22 PPP as pick/roll ballhandler [http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/74636/stats-in-the-paint-michigan-at-indiana]. so… not a bad shot. probably a better one to be had. i’ve often wondered why teams don’t run sets at end of clock possessions, especially end of 1st half. i understand wanting the last shot, i always thought teams could have designed plays that take between 4-7 seconds, 6-8 seconds, 8-12 seconds, etc… i dunno, didn’t play a lot of organized ball. perhaps when dylan is out of post ideas, he can access his sweet synergy access and give the final quantitative word on trey’s stepback.

  • JDR

We just aren’t making them pay.

  • jemblue

Come on! It’s unbelievable how we can’t ever extend the lead.

  • Alex

    Dangerous. Just play guys.

  • Scott Kremkow

Dickie v loves to piss off both UM and Ohio fans by talking up Sparty, Enuff already Dick!

  • JDR

    This is just brutal.

  • Alex

Really nervous. Almost want to foul.

  • Alex

    All right.

  • JDR

    BURKEBERKBURKKKKKKKK

  • mstein23

They’re checking Craft’s foul on Robinson. Really hammered him.

    • eddieben

Never in a million years could i see them calling flagrant on Craft

  • Mattski

The back and forth between Craft and Burke is worthy of a novel. One of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed.

  • DB

Wow, he hit him in the head. Do they call that?

  • Mattski

    Kinda flagrant. Yeah.

  • JDR

AAAAAH THE INTERNET FEED JUST WENT TO DARTS!!!!!

    • JDR

      sdlgjhsdlghlskgklsdg

  • http://www.facebook.com/mbainbridge2 Mike Bainbridge

    gotta make both

  • Hops

    Flagrant 1

  • http://www.facebook.com/mbainbridge2 Mike Bainbridge

    WIN

  • DB

    Yes! What a block!

    • Mattski

Probably a foul. Bit of a make-up from the refs.

  • JDR

    DAAAAAAAAAARTS

  • Wayman Britt

I am soooo glad we won, but UM has tons of things to work on.

    • Alex

You win big things in March. Good win or the team and for us and I agree they have work to do. I think this will make them better in the end. Looking forward to Madison game even though it will probably be even uglier. Oh well.

  • jemblue

Wow we escaped tonight. To-do list for tomorrow’s practice: free throw shooting, defensive rotations and boxing out.

    • Wayman Britt

Plus, driving to the basket, more aggressive, too many three’s

  • DB

Hardaway got ball, and maybe some arm. If they don’t call the flagrant, they can’t call that.

    • mstein23

Exactly. They had just given Ohio the benefit of the doubt. Not going to get it twice back to back to end the game.

      • Mike

        Home court…finally

  • Mattski

    Five guys in double figures.

  • Scott Kremkow

at Wisconsin and at Michigan State, could easily lose both, want to get a split. best chance is at Wisconsin.

    • gobluemd16

I think winning one of these would be great, and I honestly think we could go the rest of the season undefeated after these two on the road.

  • mstein23

How about Trey coming back to get the big block on Craft after getting stripped the previous possession. Tough minded kid.

    • Matzio

yea, kid hustles like no other.

  • Scott Kremkow

in overtime you could see Stauskas and GRIII passing up shots… understandable. Stauskas had that big TO vs Craft, but then Robinson came up huge with the block and the rebound in OT. Great Gutty win. wow. Coach admits we are “tired”. Big big game in Madison Saturday

  • CCC

real happy with this win. frustrating game, but we got the W. and even more importantly, there will be much, much tape to break down, digest, and teach. it’s great to see blue (maize? highlighter?) win a close one, regardless of venue. all of our wins have been at least comfortable (maybe not pitt? NC state seemed comfortable, as did @ minny). hard-fought win; it’ll be good for the boys to get a few days rest before yet anther brutal BigTen road matchup. it will be interesting to see the split in minutes at 5 (and 4, for that matter) going forward. mcgary is showing why he was a top5 recruit at one point in high school.
