Pre-Game Reading:

  • Daniel

I’m hoping to see a rather significant amount of LeVert, and McGary in this game. With a sprinkling of Albrecht.

  • MGoTweeter

    Let’s Go Blue!

  • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Trey Burke just went off high glass to beat Ohio State. Oh wait, this is last year’s game ending on BTN.

    • MGoTweeter

      I’d take it on Sunday

      • Mattski

Be great if they just went into Columbus and took care of business, ground out a nice 12-point win. Possible.

“I thought I’d ask someone else in the country that’s stopped them but I haven’t found anyone yet” – Nebraska coach Tim Miles on slowing UM.

    • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Miles is also hoping that Michigan’s three point shooters return to the mean. Can’t blame him.

This guy has had a couple clever responses this week

      • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

He definitely fancies himself a wise guy.

  • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Bit of a slow start for Michigan. Nebraska seems to be really trying to take away the transition game and doing a decent job of it.

  • MGoTweeter

Slow start. Nebraska really packing it in on d.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mbainbridge2 Mike Bainbridge

This Shields looks like a player for them

  • eddieben

Nebraska is getting very makeable looks. Need to tighten the screws on defense, especially in the lane. Backcourt also has to make the entry passes a lot more difficult.

    • eddieben

      Screws are tightening…

  • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Brutal shooting start for Michigan. 40% on twos, 17% on threes. 18-15 UM with 6:06 to play.

    • Alex

Get it out of the system tonight.

  • MGoTweeter

Is it just me or have continuation rules changed in the B1G? Seems like a lot of and-1s this year would have been on the floor fouls in previous years.

    • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

The one they gave Stauskas was ridiculous.

  • eddieben

Shots arent falling. Other team dictating tempo. Almost feel like this is a blessing and something that Coach will enjoy leveraging at halftime and beyond…

  • MGoTweeter

Well that was ugly. Thought michigan forced or settled for some threes. Seems like hardaway can get to the Tim when he wants. Hopefully we see more of the wing ball screen and guys going o the hoop in the second half.

    • Mattski

Lot of settling for the three. Nebraska working on a game plan other teams may emulate.

      • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Was working on a Q&A previewing the OSU game and my gameplan was pack in the lane and hope Michigan misses threes. (I swear I wrote this earlier today)… Nebraska is doing that just about perfectly.

  • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Michigan 25, Nebraska 20 at the half.

    U-M .85 PPP, NEB .74 PPP
    U-M: 35% eFG%, 7% TO Rate, 32% OR Rate, 20% FTA/FGA
    NEB:38% eFG%, 15% TO Rate, 10% OR Rate, 13% FTA/FGA

Just a brutal offensive half for Michigan. Shooting 43% on twos and 10% on threes. Tough to watch.

  • John

I get that the 35 second shot clocks allows so many upsets to happen in college basketball but it really makes for terrible viewing of a game. I wouldn’t be surprised for other teams to adopt the Nebraska strategy of just using the whole shot clock no matter what.

    • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Funny because last year Michigan won a lot of games against better teams by slowing the game down.

    • jemblue

Don’t forget, it was once a 45-second clock. (And before then there was no shot clock and teams like UNC would start running the four corners with 3-4 minutes to go in a game.)

  • serious

I couldn’t watch the first half due to work. Why the close game in the first half? Was it merely due to missing good looks from 3?

    • eddieben

Yes, and missing bad looks from 3 as well

      • serious

I can’t really think of a game this year where we have settled for lousy 3s. Hopefully they don’t start the trend now.

  • MGoTweeter

I wonder if we will see some 1-3-1 in the second half to try and change tempo. Could cause some turnovers or at the very least quicker shots even I they are more open.

  • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Benny Parker has four fouls in nine minutes of playing time. Safe to say he can’t guard Trey Burke.

  • MGoTweeter

Ugh hate that last shot by Burke. Really felt like that possession could have broken Nebraska.

  • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Stauskas has missed two FTs, Hardaway missing FTs, McGary missing layups. Not a lot of offensive execution.

  • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Michigan in the bonus with 14:06 to play in the second half. That’s big except U-M is struggling at FT line.

  • MGoTweeter

Man michigan has been so close t blowing this game wide open. Just a little bit quick to pull the trigger on a few possessions.

    • Stu Cazzo

The missed FTs early in the second half when they could have really stepped on their throat let Nebraska hang around. To NU’s credit, they’ve battled all night.

  • MGoTweeter

Just looked at the top twenty five scoreboard. Tough night for top teams. Syracuse, Louisville, butler and kansas all struggling.

  • Mattski

    Hellacious slam by Robinson!

  • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

Glenn Robinson III can elevate… He’s someone you should probably think about boxing out though.

  • MGoTweeter

How does that shot not count?

  • eddieben

Shocking stat of the night: UM with only 6 assists

  • jemblue

Man, Gallegos is an animal. If he plays this well all the time he’ll be All-Big Ten.

    • http://www.umhoops.com/ Dylan Burkhardt

He’s 7-of-19 from the floor. Not quite the stuff of legends.

  • Mattski

Pretty crappy game on most counts. :)

    • Stu Cazzo

Not the worst thing in the world to have a crappy performance before the two big road games. Gives the coaches lots to harp about and get the team refocused.

  • beingklauskinski

michigan def. getting the benefit of the the calls tonight, pretty heavy really

    • eddieben

      two words: ted valentine

    • MGoTweeter

      Not sure if serious

      • beingklauskinski

        very much so

        • MGoTweeter

What calls in particular are you talking about?

  • Mattski

Hardaway’s cool and veteran poise helped us on various occasions tonight.

  • MGoTweeter

    16-0
