Michigan will face Cincinnati in a home-and-home series beginning next year, according to a report by Jon Rothstein.

The Wolverine will play at CIncinnati on December 17th, 2016 according to Rothstein’s report with a return date in Ann Arbor in 2017.

The Wolverines should have a home game in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge next season and are also scheduled to participate in the 2K Sports Classic, a tournament at Barclays Center featuring SMU, Pittsburgh and Marquette.

Seems like a very peculiar opponent to schedule given our results against physical teams, no?

    • Was thinking about that too. Another historically very good offensive rebounding team — similar to SMU, Xavier this year. Maybe Beilein thinks its worth it to be exposed to that sort of thing early in the year? Maybe there just aren’t very many schools that will schedule a home-and-home? Not sure.

(I realize Xavier was out of U-M’s control)

And we could play SMU again next year in the 2K Classic.

This is part of a deal announced almost three years ago that includes Cinci coming to play football. Not a marquee matchup but it’s hard to schedule quality nonconference home and homes and this should be good competition.

    • Yes. Had it in the notes that these games were scheduled at some point before 2019 I believe. Nice to have a date set next year though. A Saturday game after finals should (maybe?) be over.

Good competition. I like this matchup to be honest.

When are the Gavitt Games matchups announced? Since only 8 B1G teams participate each year, the odds are Michigan won’t have a game in 2016 – maybe they’ve already been assured of this privately.

I like the subtle tweaking of the Bucknuts, who will not, Not, NOT schedule Cincinnati. Ever. We’re not afraid to play the Bearcats…
