Michigan announces 2013-14 non-conference schedule

Michigan 61, Syracuse 56 extra-44The University of Michigan announced its non-conference schedule this afternoon.

The Wolverines non-conference slate is highlighted by the Puerto Rico Tip Off (Nov. 21-24), road games at Duke (Dec. 3) and Iowa State (Nov. 17), a return trip to the Barclays Center to face Stanford (Dec. 21) and a marquee home game against Arizona. View the full schedule below.

The Wolverines could face up to six high-major foes in the non-conference slate and will play six games away from home before the conference season. Arizona and Duke are both expected to be ranked in the preseason top ten while potential Puerto Rico Tip Off foe VCU could not only pose a NCAA tournament rematch but another top-20 opponent.

The Big Ten schedule is expected to be released shortly but three games have already been announced including College GameDay at Michigan State. The Wolverines will face Ohio State (road), Illinois (road), Northwestern (home) and Penn State (home) once this season. Find the full non-conference schedule after the jump.

Tough schedule but TERRIBLE cupcake scheduling, even worse then in previous years. All 5 of them were around 300 in rpi last year. Couldnt we get a couple dirsctional michigan schools instead?

Agree, you want to schedule tougher mid-majors that could be decent for RPI purposes but with so many games away from home you have to expect Michigan’s RPI will be okay.

Hopefully we are past the days when we’re still sweating about the RPI of our opponents in the days leading up to the tournament. Little differences one way or the other won’t determine whether we get in or not this year.

Wonder why there aren’t any MAC schools on the schedule?

  • Retiredat23

At Iowa St., at Duke, home at Arizona & neutral vs. Stanford ain’t too shabby. Coppin St. and Houston Baptist is pretty laughable but Duke, Stanford, & Arizona could all potentially be top 10 or 20 teams = great potential RPI wins.

should be at the Michigan vs Stanford game in Brooklyn, had a great time last year, look forward to being there this year…
@Duke will be great to watch (tickets are ridiculous)..at home vs Arizona also a interesting matchup…at Iowa State also intriguing matchup…
    thanks for the non-conference schedule
