Recruiting gets serious for Devin Booker

Dylan Burkhardt

Devin Booker is set to take five unofficial visits over the next three weeks:

Booker and his father, Melvin, will travel to ACC country this weekend for unofficial visits to North Carolina and Duke. The Tar Heels host North Carolina State on Saturday, while the Blue Devils entertain Boston College on Sunday.

On March 2, the Bookers will visit Florida when the Gators take on Alabama. The following week, they’ll travel to Michigan State to see the Spartans host Wisconsin on March 7 and Michigan to see the Wolverines battle Indiana March 10.

"I’ve been talking to the coaches about the schools, and they can tell you everything, but some things you want to see for yourself," Booker said. "You always hear about Duke and North Carolina and the atmosphere, and getting the chance to see it in-person is going to be great."

The more I read, the more distant Booker seems to be from Michigan. I really hope i’m wrong but it seems like he’s entertaining the ACC late in the search. If the staff can get this young man it would be a great recruiting effort by Michigan. I know he’s been on the radar early but the ACC is pushing hard…..i guess it just makes me concerned!

Are we going to be loaded at the 2 spot…..will that impact his decision with Irvin?

The lack of news about Bluiett and Booker certainly isn’t promising. Although I don’t actually pay for the paysites, so don’t know what’s behind that wall. I guess on the plus side, he’s visiting Michigan last. So a good chance to leave a final impression.

I’m not surprised abut the lack of news since the kids are in the middle of their high school seasons.

The one thing we have going for us is that of all of his visits, the UofM-IU games is by far the best one and should have the best game day impressions

The B1G will be a better conference still when the class of 2014 arrives. He’ll get to play against better competition both in games and practices if he comes to Michigan. Plus

Duke is an amazing amotsphere, so it will be tough to compete. But I’m impressed with the level of schools we’re recruiting in the same league as now.

If UM doesn’t get either Booker or Bluiett, the class of 2014 will be pretty slim.

    • MGoTweeter

Wouldn’t say that. Turner, Doyle and Edwards are all good options as well. Booker and bluiett are the best scorers and I want michigan to get at least one but there are still other nice options.

Still can’t believe Tate and Diop both went to Ohio :(

    • geoffclarke

Hopefully we can get Edwards and Doyle on campus soon.

OT: these flagrant reviews need to go. They are an absolute joke. Watford gets a flagrant for an elbow while making an offensive move. Nix gets a no call for purposefully hitting zeller in the balls. Refs have no clue

But MSU lost the game because of officiating

That game was a classic, from the dick-punching to the clock malfeasance, just the quintessential East Lansing experience.
You know the old saying – If you ain’t cheatin’, you ain’t Spartan…

Nix is such a tool. I hate to wish ill for a kid, but seriously, I hope someone hits him in the nuts every time he calls someone overrated.

    • ForeverBlue

No, they don’t seem to have a clue. Enjoyed watching the leak out at the end of the game since JB was widely criticized for the way they defended Wisconsin on the miracle 3. McGary was at the top of the key to defend against exactly such a play.

      • champswest

Actually, that play wouldn’t have hurt us unless the guy took a 3 point shot.

    • ChathaM

I’m sure I saw Zeller pull Nix’ arm into him on that play. Maybe I’m crazy.

      • MGoTweeter

They were certainly interlocked but you could see nix use his hand to hit zeller and then look over his shoulder to see if the ref noticed.

        • ChathaM

Yeah, you’re probably right. I’m likely giving Zeller far too much credit in thinking that he’d try to draw a flagrant call by doing that.

Big ten refs suck, they have let way to much go this whole season
