Game 17: Michigan at Ohio State Open Thread

Michigan 81, West Virginia 66 - #33
Dustin Johnston

Michigan is the lone undefeated team remaining in the nation and will put its record on the line at Ohio State this afternoon. A win would mark the Wolverines best start in program history and almost assuredly give Michigan a No. 1 ranking on Monday. Tip off is scheduled for 1:37 p.m. on CBS with Tim Brando and Clark Kellogg on the call.

Pre-Game Reading:

reigns definitely need to be pulled in by the coaches this week

  • Kmaier

How many possessions are we going to waste?

  • Stu Cazzo

Ohio State giving the Wolverines every opportunity to win this game, and the Wolverines have given it right back with horrible shot selection.

  • Devin McCauley

    home cookin

  • jemblue

How is that not a 3-point play?

  • JimC

dumbass intimidated refs have changed the outcome of this game!

  • Kmaier

    make up call

  • MGoTweeter

have to make these and then get a stop

  • Mattski

    Shite make-up b.s., there. Dag.

  • Kmaier

No way the refs or our shot selection let us leave C-bus with a win

  • MGoTweeter

    CMON ONE STOP HERE

  • jemblue

We’re going to win. I can just feel it. Everything’s gone wrong but we just won’t be denied.

  • Mattski

    STOPSTOPSTOP

  • Kmaier

Craft does that shit all game and Burke gets called

    • David

They say Craft plays great D, but I see a lot of ball fouls. Whatever.

  • mistersuits

Arkansas 2011-12 Part 2 – Electric Boogaloo…. this time with a different ending???

    • mistersuits

      Nope, same ending. Damn.

  • Kmaier

    DAMN!

    Visions of Arkansas 2012.

    • MGoTweeter

dont get it. Burke has to be smarter than that. If the shot clock is late then fine, take that shot. But there was plenty of time there. Gotta probe for something better. Michigan really giving this game away with the late game offensive execution.

  • jemblue

    ARGH! In and out!

  • jemblue

Why not drive and dish? Burke is our best penetrator but not our best shooter.

  • Mattski

Kellogg has a point–might have looked to drive and draw the foul. Still–halfway down.

  • Kmaier

Win or lose, Let this game be a big learning moment in our Championship season

  • Mattski

Play with a modicum of poise through 2/3 of that game and we win–didn’t even take that much effort to make it close. Oh, well. Need to pants them in A2.

  • jemblue

Of course that one goes in…

  • MGoTweeter

dont know what to say. Just an awful last five minutes. Players had plenty of opportunities to get this win and instead threw it away. Have to be smarter than that. Specifically, Burke. I love that kid more than any player Michigan has ever had, but this is a low point for his career at Michigan. He tried to be a hero today and all Michigan really needed was a leader. I want to say Michigan will learn from this, but I have no idea. We saw this game last year and it didnt help so who knows. The good news is that there is new challenge coming up right away against Minny.

    • Mattski

Definitely a bad day for Trey. Just didn’t seem to shake off his jitters until the very end-sometimes when his passing looks a bit casual, I think it’s because he’s more nervous than he’s admitting to himself, if that makes sense. Loved seeing Robinson step up a bit, and think there are enough positives that this doesn’t have to be murderous for the team, though. We have played well at The Barn; let’s see how it goes.

      • MGoTweeter

Yep certainly not murderous. Games like this happen. Personally I was just hoping it didn’t happen against Ohio.

  • JeremyS

This was an outstanding game and a great learning experience. I don’t think a start like that will happen again and they outscored ohio in the second half. This is a young team and they needed a game like this to show them that even if they fall down that they can come back

    • camblue

I think starts will happen like that again a few more times. We just had a start like that a few days ago. And against Iowa until right before the half. It’s a big problem and I don’t think it’s getting permanently fixed any time soon.

      • Erob

        You just contradicted yourself.

        • camblue

          How?

          • Erob

Whoops, it originally said the same poster had made both comments. My apologies.

  • CDeSana

Watching the replay just got to half time; boy does Michigan look like a team not ready for the challenge. They simply have not done anything worthy of a compliment thus far. Did not value the ball, poor shooting and lackluster defense.

Only bright spot was Spike in that first half.

  • CDeSana

Just too many poor offensive processions after Timmy got it to within one.

In the end this game came down to a couple of key factors that I do not see changing next time they play. Ohio States on ball defense was too much for us and to make it worse it often seemed that the other 4 players in the game just watched Trey struggle in one on one combat with Craft.
