Michigan is a 38-point favorite, reportedly the largest spread in college basketball this season, as it hosts Binghamton at Crisler Center this evening. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the broadcast handled by the Big Ten Network. Join in the discussion before, during and after the game in the comments section below.

Pre-Game Reading:

  • MGoTweeter

    Lets Go Blue!

  • John Beilein on the 1-3-1:
We’ve done it in spots, but we haven’t done it at length for a while. We used it in the NCAA tournament and that was all people wanted to talk about. One of my assistants calls it Big Foot. Everybody talks about it, but nobody sees it anymore.

Gotta guess that assistant is Bacari Alexander. Who else could come up with a nickname like that.

  • Mike Bainbridge

    Handle business, plain and simple

  • Zem528

did this guy just say Beilein has run that fun uptempo offense he’s run everywhere?

    • I’ll give him “fun” but “uptempo”… Not so fast my friend.

    • Joel_C

Ha yeah I also was confused. Good research by that guy >_>

  • Jordan Reed opens the game with his first three of the year for Binghamton.

  • jcgold

Well this certainly reminds me of the Beilein basketball of old…get the ball in the paint and stop taking so many 3s

  • Joel_C

Can’t help but wonder if we’re playing to our competition a little bit early on

  • Sloppy sloppy start from Michigan… Offense looks a bit stagnant and UM is trailing .

  • CDeSana

Again player makes a good play and to the bench

    • CDeSana

And again make a hoop and to the bench

      • Everyone is going to get run this game and Beilein is going to continue to sub around TV timeouts. Especially when they are really the only stoppages in a game without fouls.

  • MGoTweeter

Binghamton really packing it in and forcing michigan to shoot threes. But I really don’t like the attitude that this team is developing. No sense of urgency

    • wessamons

are you serious? This is one of the least selfish teams I’ve ever watched and they aren’t arrogant, so what “attitude” are you referring to? The play isn’t going to be urgent when you see a JV team lineup against you, especially during finals. Calm down with the negativity…

      • MGoTweeter

The attitude I am referring to is not about being selfish or arrogant. It is more the relaxed state this team has fallen into during long periods in the last several games. They go on cruise control from time to time.

THis team has so much ability particularly on offense, that it is easy to take for granted that you are going to score. They have had stretches of play where they have been more or less going through the motions and settling for what the defense is giving them instead of working harder to create more advantageous opportunities.

We have seen it in the Bradley and Arkansas games, and now tonight. To me that is a sign of a trend. A trend that can get you beat against a good team.

  • Joel_C

Sue Ann Robak sounds like a Yooper yah?

  • Jon Pence
  • MGoTweeter

I don’t know what is more annoying michigans play or the pa guy tonight

  • Joel_C

1st half analysis: Binghamton cannot shoot.

  • JDR

Man Binghamton looks like a JV team or worse compared to Mich.

  • Mattski

Announcers awful, Michigan playing awfully, and still halfway to the predicted final 37-point bulge. Ugh.

  • Michigan leads 34-14 at the half. Binghamton scored 2 points in the final 10 minutes of the half.

Michigan 1.21 PPP, Binghamton .50 PPP
    Michigan 57% eFG%, 14% TO Rate, 29% OR Rate, 11% FTA/FGA
    Binghamton: 32% eFG%, 36% TO Rate, 27% OR Rate, 0 FTA

  • DB

15 of 27 shots were from 3. Even though most were wide open, they shouldn’t be taking that many. Settling is a bit lazy in this case, though that may be hard to avoid considering the opponent.

    • Taking a lot of threes but like you said they are wide open. Binghamton is packing the lane pretty much every possession, probably figure the only way they can win is if Michigan makes threes.

Michigan’s play has been far from inspired but Binghamton just can’t compete on this level, painful to watch.

  • DB

On pace for a 56 possession game. Wow, is that slow. I guess that’s what happens when you keep forcing shot clock violations (there was a while there when Binghamton didn’t touch the rim for a couple of minutes).

  • CDeSana

    Nik is human

    • Joel_C

I know, going 2-5 in the 1st half will bring down his 60.5% 3-pt average O_O

  • Joel_C

This is like an NBA team vs junior high rec league kids

    • Joel_C

But congrats to Binghamton on beating the spread by 10 :P

  • Mattski

We’ve seen that Stauskas can put it on the floor, but he looks pretty out of control when he does it sometimes.

  • David

Maybe Tim just isn’t the knock-down 3-point shooter we observed during the second half of his freshman year? 33% on the year now and his looks are great.

    • robpollard

You got that right but it’s worse – except for one ~12 game stretch at the end of his freshman year, THJ has been a below avg 3-pt shooter.

His shot looks pretty, but it’s not his game – he should stick to mid-range and drives, and leave the bombing to Nik, Trey & others.

  • Mattski

My gad, what is Hardaway’s shot percentage in this game?

  • JDR

Man, Akunne is just the worst. He doesn’t even seem to want to let Albrecht play point.

    • jemblue

He was a great high school player, but at that level he played in the frontcourt. Here he has to play guard, and it’s not natural for him.

  • Mattski

Think they’re right about our lack of interior dominance. Maybe it’s just me, but tonight I’m seeing us a little vulnerable against the great teams.

  • Joel_C

I think that’s the fastest college basketball game I’ve ever seen

  • MGoTweeter

Yuck. That was not fun to attend. Even the refs got bored and forgot they had whistles. I have never seen so many missed travels and fouls both ways.
