Nick Stauskas Picks Up A Michigan Offer

Dylan Burkhardt

Joe got a hold of Canadian wing guard Nick Stauskas this afternoon and the 6-foot-5 2012 prospect confirmed that he has picked up offers from Michigan and Baylor. Stauskas hasn’t spoken with Michigan since the offer was made but his coach passed along the news. Stauskas has yet to trim his list to five schools but reiterated that Michigan is his favorite. He doesn’t have a visit date set in stone but is planning to make it to Ann Arbor in August.

Stauskas is a versatile wing scorer that has played very well this spring/summer with the Grassroots Canada AAU program. Joe spoke with Stauskas a couple weeks ago and you can read that interview for some more background on his recruitment. Stauskas is ranked 88th in Rivals’ most recent 2012 rankings. Oklahoma State (offer), Wake Forest, Pitt, Boston College, Florida State and Villanova are some of the other teams involved in Stauskas’ recruitment.

Stauskas will also be playing in the Canadian Flight Games event on Thursday July 29th in Toronto.

Nice. I like the video of this kid and he’s picking up some other nice offers.

Good to hear Michigan is his favorite, seems like a really good fit. Is Canada putting out more talent lately?
Can’t get much closer to Canada than Michigan, so Nick Stauskas, come on down, so to speak.

  • Adam

I love the film on Stauskas. Hopefully he is one who makes a quick decision to be blue and doesn’t drag out the process.

I found this tidbit about Stauskas on the facebook of his AAU Team.

“Class of 2012, 6’6″, 205 lbs Highschool: St. Marks Southborough MA. Coach David Lubick AAU Team : Grassroots Canada. Coach Ro Russel”

    two questions:
    1. Is his high school coach related to Nate Lubick?
    2. He is listed as 6’4 or 6’5 on other sites. Is he still growing?

  • Lubick’s dad is the head coach at St. Marks. I believe this will be Stauskas’ first year at St Marks.

  • Carl Sanders

I don’t what the level of competition he was playing against but all I can say is WOW. I hope this guy chooses Michigan.

  • mitch

The kid can play. I wasn’t expecting that type of athletic ability.
What’s up with those Canadian gyms he’s playing at?

  • Dirtgrain

Yah, one gym seemed to have an asphalt court.

  • JBlair52

Anyone else think he looks like he’s got a pretty good wing-span?

  • Shoots, passes, drives and finishes, and comes out of a bunch of rebounders with the ball. I’m excited to have him with us. Here’s hoping.

Hopefully Beilein built a good relationship with David Lubick throughout Nate’s recruitment, considering St. Mark’s is loaded with the 14th- (Kaleb Tarczewski), 28th- (Alex Murphy), and 88th-rated (Nik Stauskas) prospects in the country in the class of 2012, all of whom appear to have Michigan offers now.

  • Bluebufoon

Sam–its no accident the St Mark’s kids have U-M offers. Beilein is constantly scouting St Mark’s and vice versa St Mark’s is a frequent participant of Coach Beilein’s team camps. Coaches Lubick and Coach Beilein have known each other for years and share high regard for one another.

Hadn’t seen anything about Manny Harris severly spraining an ankle in a workout, but that is what has evidently hampered his play this summer.

Article about Canadian prospects, includes Pangos.

Yogi Ferrell update where he says he’s not ready to trim his list. Michigan isn’t listed, but who knows… Chris Harrison-Docks getting interest from U-M.

Courtney Sims playing well in summer league. Another mention on Manny’s sprained ankle keeping him out of games. ,
