Prestige, Recruiting, and Darius Morris Live

Prestige. ESPN ranks Michigan the 22nd most prestigious program since 1985, not bad I’d say. The three points lost from the NCAA ban looks to have cost us because Florida only finished 1 point ahead.

Darius Morris. Darius Morris scored 20 points (the tournament website only had him for 17) on 7 of 14 shooting for Belmont Shore in a loss to DC Triple Threat at Reebok (game recap). Darius added 11 points in Belmont’s second game, a  43-56 loss to LA Dream team.

Streaming. You should be able to stream the Darius Morris and Belmont Shore’s next game against Worldwide Orange (Ari Stewart, Richard Howell) LIVE from WazooSports.com at 4:15 PST (7:15 EST) right here. You can follow Belmont Shores’s stats here and Darius Morris’ here.

Jordan Morgan. Reader FL Wolve watched Jordan Morgan’s game online yesterday, heres a portion (full link in comments):

Jordan’s approximate stats were 7 points on 3-6 shooting, 1-2 from the line, 7 rebounds, and 1 blocked shot. Again, those stats are approximate as I missed the first few minutes and had some other distractions. King James won the game although I didn’t catch the final score. The guards for King James played much better in this game than the last game I saw where they got blown out.

As far as Jordan’s overall game, he put up some decent numbers but he was going up against an absolute monster. If I didn’t know better, I would have sworn that Amare Stoudamire had walked into the gym and suited up for the Cali team (ED: It was Jeremy Tyler #1 in 2010). The kid even wore #1. The dunks that he was throwing down beside, over, and around the entire King James team was dizzying. I’ve never seen a high school kid with the kind of power dunks that this kid had. That said, Morgan was still playing him tough and had a few nice deflections. The problem that I saw was that Jordan likes to go for tips and deflections so every time he went for one and missed, the Cali kid caught the ball, spun around, and threw down an uncontested dunk.

Notes. Glen Rice Jr. is set to announce his college choice on Thursday (it’s not Michigan).

Wednesday Bullets

Weekend Notes

ESPN had this to say on 2009 wing Givon Crump at the RBK Showcase:

Six-foot-7 senior forward Givon Crump (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster) impressed once again with his ability to make shots and impact the game with his athleticism. Crump has a thick build and is much quicker than he looks. He’ll need to improve his game off the dribble if he hopes to play full time on the perimeter in college.

Hill, Franklin and Rice Not Mentioning U-M

A couple of discouraging school lists school lists from the LeBron Skills Academy from Solomon Hill, Glen Rice Jr., and Roger Franklin. Quoted (and unquoted which these appear to be) lists can be wrong sometimes but they are from the national site so that’s certainly discouraging.  Rivals:

Solomon Hill recently was offered by USC on an unofficial visit putting the Trojans at the top of his school list along with Arizona, who has also offered. Hill plans to unofficially visit Arizona later this summer and then officially visit Kansas State (offer), Washington State (offer) and Oregon State. Florida State, San Diego State (offer), Texas and SMU (offer) are also on his list.

Glen Rice has an offer from Georgia Tech. Florida State and Miami are the other two schools on his three team school list.

Roger Franklin stated that Indiana was still solidly on his list despite the recent troubles for the program along with Michigan State, Arizona (offer), Utah (offer), Oklahoma State (offer), Baylor (offer) and Memphis.

“Indiana is a basketball powerhouse and right now I’m still high on them,” said Franklin. “They have a great coach in Tom Crean. And I know they have lost a lot of players, but that means there is a great opportunity to play and that’s why they are still on my list.”

If you are looking for more positive news, Scout put up a two part video interview series with Darius Morris.

Camp Links

I didn’t make it to camp, and don’t think I am going to today either but here are a couple links. It seems like Nate Lubick was definitely one of the top players there and played very well. Stu also played well a year after he basically earned his spot at U-M at team camp. Mike Talley played well while guys like Herbeck and Simmons definitely struggled a bit. Read Wolverine3’s entire report here, but here are his notes on a just a few players:

Nate Lubick- Has great control of his body. Always knows where he is on the court and especially the post. Great footwork when he recieves the ball and knows what to do with it. Wide frame, but he kind of hunches over. Didnt even notice him until I saw the face. Thin down low, yet semi-explosive. Tons of talent…great outside shot…at the start they were just shooting around…kid hit 7-8 threes in a row. Played hurt a bit the second session.

Stu Douglass- SIIIIICK shot. Better handles then I thought. He looks (on this day) more ready, physically then Novak in my opinion. He will be a great asset THIS year. Already knows how to use EVERY screen he gets to his advantage. Almost like Rip when using the screens, but sometimes his teammates got in the way of the play not understanding, so he didn’t have every opportunity he could have…but he will this season. GREAT vision. Made tons of accurate passes on the run. At one point Talley Jr took him off the dribble 2-3 times in a row. Stu then went on to hit 6-8 threes. He gets very good elevation of his shot. Must improve footwork on D.

Jordan Morgan- Kind of the opposite of Lubick. Doesn’t have great hands. Decent footwork, but good at times. Has a hard time getting his shot off under the rim, but has an array of post up moves from the block. Impressive off the dribble from the 3point line a couple times. Very good passing skills. Knows where the open man is…he and Lubick seemed to have liked playing with each other. Set each other up multiple times. They coached Jordan up as much as they could, stopping every drill to show him the “right” way to do things…sometimes he got it, sometimes he didn’t. Has lots of potential though. Had a couple of MONSTER ducks that almost tipped the hoops over.

Rivals and Scout were there as well and here are a few of their articles:

One other note, I got an email from the guys over at InsidePrepSports to add Sultan Muhammed (Grand Rapids CC) to the list of ‘10 recruits so he might be someone to keep an eye out for.

Jordan Morgan Blog: NBPA Camp

AAU has pretty much come to an end for the spring. Now I have games with my school and summer camps coming up. We had our first week of camp with our new coach, Pat Donnelly from Grosse Pointe North. I’m really optimistic about the upcoming season and am really beginning to like my new coach and the way he runs things. We had four days of fundamental camp last Monday, June 9th, through Thursday, June 12th. Everything went very well and it was challenging. I made it a point to really challenge myself to really set an example for the younger generations of our program. We finished the week off with our first summer league games at Wayne Memorial high school. We won two back to back games late Friday night with only five players. On Saturday we won two games against John Glenn high school and Southfield Lathrup. I was able to take Sunday off to rest my body before leaving for Virginia.

Right now I am in Virginia on my way to the University of Virginia to begin the NBPA Top 100 Camp. We get checked in and situated on Tuesday and play goes from Wednesday through Saturday. I’m really looking forward to this camp for the knowledge that I will be able to gain, the exposure and the competition. I also received my report card for the end of the year and finished with a 3.92 for the semester bringing my overall to a 3.5. Everything is going really well.

For more on the NBPA Camp check out the preview.

Indiana/Kentucky All-Star Game Day

I am out of town but the Indiana/Kentucky game at Conseco is tonight (followed by game in Kentucky Sunday night), I’ll try to get some updates tonight. Here is video from the first and second scrimmage (as well as a bunch of links and recap) from Indiana High School Hoops. Hopefully I’ll get something up tonight, otherwise tomorrow sometime.

Ekpe Udoh to Baylor

It’s official. Best of luck to Ekpe. Ekpe (or Mitch Malone) chose Baylor over Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas. I’ll just stick to a no comment on Ekpe’s choice.

2011 Visitor: Brandan Kearney

Just got an email that 2011 point guard Brandan Kearney is on campus today. Kearney is a 6-4 freshman from Detroit Southeastern and is certainly one to watch. It appears that Michigan is really starting to push for underclassmen and that Beilein is definitely recruiting in Detroit.

Busy day today, make sure you don’t miss the other two recruiting posts today.
