Drew Ellis of the Morning Sun has confirmed that Trey Zeigler will commit to Central Michigan tomorrow afternoon at 4:45 PM on ESPNU. Zeigler chose Central Michigan, and the chance to play for his father, over Michigan, Michigan State, UCLA, and Arizona State. Zeigler will sign his letter of intent on Thursday at Mt. Pleasant High School.
Michigan was thought to be in good position in the Zeigler recruitment for a long time but at the end of the day the allure of playing for his father was too much for Michigan to overcome.
The main recruiting target left on Michigan’s recruiting board for the class of 2010 is 6-foot-5 wing guard Isaiah Sykes. Sykes does not have an offer at this time but the Detroit News is reporting that Sykes will make an official visit to Michigan this weekend.
Michigan has also reportedly offered Clemson decommit Marcus Thornton (video) a scholarship as well but so have Kentucky, Florida, Texas, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Alabama. It’s probably safe to call that one an uphill battle.

Update (4/13 @ 7:15): Drew Ellis of the Sun was able to confirm that Zeigler is headed to CMU. The Detroit News is also reporting that Isaiah Sykes will make an official visit to Michigan this weekend.
Update (4/13 @ 6:51 PM): Reports originating on The Wolverine ($) that Zeigler will commit to Central Michigan tomorrow have spread like wildfire across the internet.
So much for those previous reports of a decision next week. Tomorrow is the day according to Trey’s twitter (pictured above). ESPNU’s Signing Day Special airs at 4:00 pm according to ESPN’s TV guide so that’s when I would expect we need to be tuning in.
Zeigler’s top five schools (alphabetical order) are Arizona State, Central Michigan, Michigan, Michigan State, and UCLA.
Drew Ellis of the Morning Sun has been all over the Trey Zeigler recruitment and Ernie Zeigler contract situation. His most recent scoop is that Ernie Zeigler’s contract extension with Central Michigan has been finalized and will be officially announced later today. The extension is for four more years and has a base salary around $200,000.
Ellis also reports that Zeigler will announce his college decision next week:
In Trey Zeigler news, he has pushed back his announcement for his college choice to next week. He still insists five schools remain on his list. They are Michigan, MSU, CMU, UCLA, and Arizona State. A visit to ASU may be what pushed the decision back a week as sources tell me Trey is visiting the Sun Devils this weekend.
Zeigler’s announcement will be during a press conference at his high school but no official date has been set. This recruitment has certainly been a journey but it looks like the end is drawing near. Zeigler shot down any rumors that he had narrowed his list in a tweet yesterday.
Joe posted scouting reports on a number of Michigan recruiting targets that were playing at the Motown Showdown but there were also plenty of other targets in action across the country. With signing day this week, things are also starting to heat up with the 2010 class, first here’s the latest on Michigan target Trey Zeigler.

Zeigler had a busy weekend participating in the Kentucky Derby Festival All-Star game. Zeigler and McCallum teamed up to win the 2 on 2 competition Friday night and Zeigler had 11 points and 6 rebounds in the actual game on Saturday.
With signing day this week, speculation is running wild on Zeigler’s recruitment. A couple weeks ago the rumor du jour was that Ernie Zeigler might be headed to UCLA as an assistant coach. That rumor has died down and Ernie has reached a verbal agreement on a contract extension. However the latest speculation (from both The Free Press and UCLA Scout website $) is that CMU might be in the drivers seat. In this recruitment it seems like everyone has an opinion despite Trey consistently keeping things very close to the vest.
Update: Trey Zeigler posted this tweet in regards to the aforementioned rumors about him leaning toward any particular school:

According to Drew Ellis of The Morning Sun, Ernie Zeigler will finalize his extension with Central Michigan early this week. Ellis expects Trey to make his college decision this week before setting up a press conference at his high school. An Arizona State visit had been rumored but it’s unclear if Zeigler still plans on making this trip. Ellis also discounts the idea that UCLA is out of the recruitment but agrees that CMU might be picking up steam. Time to buckle your seat belts as we head toward the finish line.
Zeigler was also named to the Detroit News Dream Team.

Update: In a recent tweet, Zeigler listed his final five as: Central Michigan, UCLA, Arizona St., Michigan St., Michigan.
According to Daniel Monson of the Central Michigan Life, Trey Zeigler has reportedly narrowed his list of schools down to five:
Trey, a four-star 6-foot-5 shooting guard/small forward recruit, has narrowed his list to five schools — Duke, Michigan, Michigan State, UCLA and, yes, Central Michigan.
Zeigler still plans to make his final decision on or around signing day, which is April 14th. He also has two official visits remaining after previously making officials to Michigan, UCLA, and Oklahoma.
