SI.com on Quincy Roberts

Quincy RobertsSI has some of the details of the Quincy Roberts story. It’s not a happy one to say the least and it will be hard to not root for this kid even though I don’t expect that he will end up at Michigan. Here is an excerpt:

“Every day I think about him,” said Roberts, also a standout wide receiver who has drawn the attention of Penn State and carries a 3.5 GPA. “I remember my uncle Mike calling out of the blue. He needed to talk to me, but I could sense there was something different about his voice.

“He told me my father was shot; I couldn’t believe it at first. I broke down. I didn’t know what to do. I found out later my father took his own life. He didn’t leave a note. I’ve had friends shot and killed. You expect the worst, but not like this. Not like this.”

Top 3 schools:

Roberts de-committed from Miami and is considering Auburn, St. John’s and Virginia. They each finished the season as their local area’s player of the year.

Also Stuart Douglass was named to The Star’s Indy Super Team, and not sure if I posted this but Zack Novak was named AP All-State.

Definitely a busy day today, make sure you saw: K’Len Morris to GVSU and Scouting Keegan Bell. Also please help out Chris Graham’s family after his sister was lost in a tragic house fire leaving behind a 10 year old daughter.

Quincy Roberts has a Final Five

Quincy Roberts has announced a final five of Virginia, Michigan, Georgia Tech, St. Johns and Temple. This one is interesting because Quincy’s name has pretty much fell off the radar over the last few weeks but now he comes out listing Michigan. I am also skeptical that he has offers from the five schools he is listing but who knows.

CSTV On Hoops Recruits

CSTV has an article on the top remaining wing/shooting guard prospects on the board (they posted a similar one for big men that had Aaron Fuller previously). Some names of note for Michigan:

Quincy Roberts 6-foot-5 SG Harrisburg (Penn.) - This athletic wing can pop an open jumper from the perimeter and has the quicks and handle to break you down and then attack the basket. His list of schools includes Penn State, Pittsburgh, Duquesne, George Mason, Delaware and Arizona State.

Justin Watts 6-foot-4 SG Durham C.E. Jordan (N.C.) - This long and lean wing can knock down jumper from three or off dribble on the move. He has handle to create drive too. His schools include Illinois, Temple, Virginia, George Mason, Penn State and East Carolina.

Quentin Dailey 6-foot-3 CG Las Vegas Bishop Gorman - This Athletic Vegas combo has really developed into a solid combo guard over the past year. He can still score off the dribble or with perimeter jumper but looks to pass it to open man too. His list of schools includes Gonzaga, Michigan, Iowa, Iowa State, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine and UNLV.

Ebuka, Kyle Cassity, Corey Person (a probable preferred walk-on for U-M via the Kalamazoo Promise), Stacey Waters and others are in the other names section.

The fact that Michigan is not listed on either Quincy or Justin’s kids lists may be telling, we’ll see. I have no idea who Quentin Dailey is but we are certainly casting a wide net.

More on Quincy Roberts

Here is another video of Quincy Roberts. There is a huge (sad) story behind Quincy Roberts, and I am not going to share all of what I have heard. However there is a chance that Michigan lands this kid, it’s just a VERY small chance in my opinion. Also, ignore the part about Miami, that scholarship offer isn’t on the table anymore. The kid is a player and he could contribute (start?) from day 1. One other encouraging note, I continue to hear GREAT things about Laval Lucas-Perry in practice.

Fuller Gets an Offer? Tickets and More

  • Aaron FullerAaron Fuller has “received a Big Ten offer” according to Hoopmasters ($$ link). A Michigan offer seems probable here based on the teams that have been mentioned to be recruiting him. (Update: Purdue may be recruiting him as well)
  • Also hearing that Zack Novak was paid a visit by the man in charge at practice.
  • There are less than 1000 tickets available for the Ohio State game Sunday. The main question is how many of them are Buckeye fans.
  • Be sure to watch the YouTube video I posted last night. The kid from PA I was referring to is #10 (white) Quincy Roberts. There are a lot of non-basketball related things here and I don’t know if it could ever work out but it’s been mentioned so I’m passing it along.
  • Very good Beilein article linked from the Buffalo News, a pretty scary quote about Cronin and the Fab Five.

Problems in Bloomington and East Lansing, YouTube of the Week

[youtube 9a1TcvyH2Ac Harrisburg vs Steel High]

Rough loss for Michigan State, the BigTen is wide open now and Purdue continues to impress. Reading those reports of the SYF AAU team making splashes at national tournaments makes a lot more sense lately. Kalin Lucas is going to be a star in the Big Ten though if he isn’t already. Bottom line it seems like MSU will go wherever Drew Neitzel and Raymar Morgan take them. Our friends at Spartans Weblog has a great report on the game.

The bomb has been dropped on Indiana it looks like according to the AP and ESPN.

The NCAA sent a notice of allegations to Indiana University last Friday detailing major violations in the men’s basketball program, multiple sources told ESPN.com.

Larry MacIntyre, assistant vice president for university communications at Indiana University, confirmed to ESPN.com that the school did receive documentation from the NCAA last week.

Tick-tock, tick-tock, Kelvin Sampson might be leaving as soon as he showed up. Looks like this is going to be a mess.
