Recruiting Roundup: Class of 2010

The 2009 class is in the books and I’m sure the Michigan staff will be excited to take this season’s momentum onto the recruiting trail. Right now there are technically two scholarships available but I would expect Michigan to take three in the class once everything works out. The biggest needs are at the wing and power forward positions — the debate would be what to do with the third scholarship.

High school seasons are pretty much in the book and that means it’s time for AAU ball. Kids like to put recruiting on the back-burner during their high-school season but AAU ball is all about recruiting. Things typically start to pick up and stock rises and falls quickly. The frustrating thing for Michigan is that a lot of the kids on the board are looking to make fall decisions rather than spring or summer.

Here is a quick run-down of who is on the board and how their high school seasons wrapped up. The list really hasn’t changed much since when I posted the 2010 hot-board a while back (will be updated soon). The main additions are Prather, Dragicevich, Payne, and Oliver. The three “firm offers” are Will Regan, Trey Zeigler, and Casey Prather but there is plenty of serious interest up and down the list. For more on every kid make sure to click through their category pages on the sidebar. You can find some video as well as the weekly recruiting wraps there.

Will Regan (6-foot-8, Nichols, NY)

Will ReganWill Regan has emerged as Michigan’s premiere big-man target. The junior had a huge year for the Nichols School and he seemed to produce night in and night out. Nichols’ season came to a disappointing end against Canisius in the Manhattan Cup final but it there is no doubt that Regan is blowing up.

Michigan has been in good position with Regan for a long time. Academics are important to Regan and Michigan certainly fits the bill. A spring decision seemed imminent but several new schools including Villanova have started to show interest. Regardless, Regan has an offer and Michigan is in very good position.

Trey Zeigler (6-foot-5, Mount Pleasant, MI)

Trey ZeiglerTrey Zeigler appears to have been the #1 wing forward on Michigan’s board for a long time. He is the son of a college coach and possesses all the tools including athleticism, basketball IQ, and shooting. Zeigler was named to the Class A all-state team and averaged 24 points and nine rebounds per game while shooting 48% from behind the arc.

Zeigler’s recruitment has been a bit of a roller-coaster in terms of speculation but the Zeigler family appears to have been true to their word in terms of time frame and plan. They have consistently stated that they want to take their time and not rush to a decision. The “big four” for Trey were Michigan, Michigan State, CMU, and UCLA but UCLA isn’t getting as much play of late. This will definitely be the recruitment to watch over the summer and you can bet that the rumors will be flying in every direction.

Casey Prather (6-foot-5, Jackson Northside, TN)

Casey PratherIt’s hard to call Casey Prather anything but an athletic freak. The 6-foot-5 swingman was a finalist for Mr. Basketball in Tennessee as a junior and is garnering interest from high-majors across the country. Prather averaged 24.4 points and 11 rebounds per game but lost to Mr. Basketball award to Josh Jenkins who averaged over 40 points per game.

The odds of landing Prather are probably long but it appears there is some sincere interest. Vanderbilt appears to be the local school to watch out for but big dogs like UNC and Wake Forest have been in to watch Prather play.

Moses Morgan (6-foot-5, Palo Verde, NV)

Moses is a skilled wing forward from Nevada whose Palo Verde team fell just short of a state championship. Morgan appears to have bounds of talent but sometimes isn’t quite assertive enough on the offensive end. Commenter Ken in Vegas was at the game and produced this report.

Moses has been big on Michigan since he visited in the fall and his recruitment doesn’t seem to have moved much over the school year. Things should start moving a little more quickly over the summer AAU period.

Tim Hardaway Jr. (6-foot-5, Miami Palmetto, FL)

Hardaway Jr. is a wing guard from Palmetto High School in Miami. The son of NBA-star Tim Hardaway Jr., the three-star prospect visited Michigan this winter for the Duke game and Michigan appears to be in a pretty good spot. Hardaway has also received interest from Kansas State, Miami, Virginia Tech, and Florida State in recent months.

Recruiting Roundup 2-23-09

Angus Brandt’s commitment to Oregon State means that it is time to move on to the class of 2010 and even the class of 2011. I updated the scholarship breakdown to add Ben Cronin’s redshirt this year. That leaves two scholarships in 2010 and three more in 2011 without any further attrition. I’m not going to speculate about attrition but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we had three to give in 2010.

So what is the biggest need? There are two in my opinion: an athletic wing forward and a scoring big man. In a sense these guys have to be the replacements for Manny Harris (who will have senior eligibility) and DeShawn Sims (who will have just graduated). Looking up and down the roster there are a lot of guys who probably can play the three but there isn’t really a pure wing. If Michigan has one more to give then I think you go with the best available player, but preferably another wing guy.

So who fills these slots? Trey Zeigler and Will Regan seem to be the best case scenario. Zeigler is a perfect fit on the wing and Regan has been putting up monster numbers in the post. Ideally if there is a third spot I could see it going to someone like Moses Morgan or Tim Hardaway Jr., two guys who provide length, skill, and athleticism on the wing.

In the class of 2011 there are plenty of names out there including guys like Carlton Brundidge, Brandan Kearney, Amir Williams, Mitch McGary, and Percy Gibson. 2011 is still a while out but it is time to start paying attention. I am working on a 2011 hotboard and it should be good to go this week. Point guard is definitely a need in 2011 but other than that I’m not sure exactly where Beilein will focus, a lot of that depends on the final results on the 2010 class.

That’s a quick run down on the future direction of recruiting and now here is the typical weekly recap.

Commitments

Darius Morris

Windward opened up sectional play last week but they didn’t really run into any competition. Windward beat Bishop Diego 85-21 and then rolled by Yeshiva 79-46. The competition they are facing early on in sectional play seems to be a level or two below the competition they have played all year. Windward will face Sierra Canyon Tuesday night.

Matt Vogrich

Matt Vogrich vs Zion BentonMatt Vogrich scored 19 points in an easy 71-44 win over Carmel but they fell to Zion Benton. Benton is the hot team in the area right now and they managed to knock off Lake Forest, 70-57. Vogrich had a game high 22 points in the loss. Lake Forest plays their final regular season game against Lakes High School on Tuesday before kicking off the IHSA playoffs on March 4th.

Jordan Morgan

Jordan Morgan had a couple of solid games in the last week. Jordan scored 23 points and pulled down 11 boards in a 70-56 win over Warren De La Salle. He followed that performance up with 22 points in a 72-56 win over Livonia Clarenceville in the Catholic League quarterfinals.

Blake McLimans

Blake has been picking up his play recently. He had 19 points against Hyde School (CT) including 5 three pointers. He played well again in a 77-73 win over Northfield, he only had 8 points or so but he has strung together a couple solid games in a row.

Worcester finishes up their regular season Friday night against Cushing Academy. The NEPSAC Tournament kicks off the next Wednesday and all games will be played at Endicott College. Worcester will likely be a 5 seed and plenty of college coaches are expected to be on hand.

Eso Akunne (pref. walkon)

Eso just keeps producing. Eso had 22 points and 12 rebounds in Gabriel Richard’s Catholic League quarterfinal win over Riverview Gabriel Richard.

Class of 2010

Will Regan

Nichols suffered a tough overtime loss to St Joe’s. It was Nichols’ second loss of the season and their first in league play but Regan had 36 points in the defeat. Nichols bounced back against Canisius and Regan posted a triple double with 32 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 blocks. Nichols will start their playoff action tonight.

Trey Zeigler

Mount Pleasant rolled by Traverse City Central. Zeigler had 14 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks.  The Oilers are back in action tonight against Bay City Central.

Moses Morgan

Moses Morgan
Moses and his Palo Verde team got passed Durango in the first round of the Sunset League playoffs, 88-62. Moses had 24 points including 14 in the second half. Palo Verde took care of business in semi final as well, Morgan led Palo Verde to a 64-47 win over Western with 16 points.

Morgan couldn’t quite lead his team to the Sunset Championship, Palo Verde suffered a 5 point defeat in the championship to Gorman High. Morgan struggled all game and was plagued by foul trouble, he took only six shots for seven points and fouled out midway through the fourth quarter. Palo Verde has a shot to make the state playoffs with a play-in game on Monday.

Tim Hardaway Jr.

Palmetto fell in the regional quarter finals to South Miami. Hardaway had 19 points in the 48-47 loss including 4 triples down the stretch.

Cameron Ayers

GermantownAcademyChestnutHillAcademyCameron Ayers was named the MVP of the Inter-Ac League. Germantown won their league title a couple weeks ago with a big win over Chesnut Hill, Ayers 14 points, three steals and five assists. But they fell against Friends Central in a very disappointing fashion in the Independent Schools title game. Ayers had 14 in the loss and missed a desperation three pointer at the end of the game that would have given Germantown the win.

Alex Dragicevich

Illinois Prep Bulls-eye reports that Alex Dragicevich has a visit planned to Ann Arbor in the very near future. The one thing that we have learned from Beilein is that visits are typically pretty serious. If he brings you in on a recruiting visit it means you are at the very least firmly on the radar.

Glenbrook North knocked off McKinney 76-69 on Friday night and Alex had 17 points and five rebounds in the win.

Casey Prather

Casey PratherCasey Prather was named a finalist for Mr. Basketball in Tennessee, the athletic junior is averaging 23 points and 11 rebounds per game. Prather is definitely blowing up this season and seems to be gaining plenty of high major interest, the latest team on the list appears to be UNC.

Allen Payne

Allen had 32 points on 12 of 15 (2-4 3pt) shooting to go along with five rebounds, six assists, and two steals in a 69-55 win over Glen Estie. Earlier in the week he posted 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting, with 10 rebounds, seven assists, five blocks, a steal, and seven turnovers.

Ray McCallum

The junior point guard was in Ann Arbor for the Minnesota game and then back in action Saturday night against Bloomington South back in his old stomping grounds. Country Day fell to the undefeated Bloomington squad 73-67 and was outscored 24-13 in the fourth quarter. McCallum led Country Day with 17 points and Amir Williams (a 2011 target) had 12 rebounds. Indiana bound Jordan Hulls led the way for Bloomington with 27 points.

2011 and Beyond

As I mentioned over the weekend, Southeastern fell to Pershing in the PSL Championship (SpartanMag highlights $). The sophomore duo of Brandan Kearney and Percy Gibson are going to be great players down the line but they weren’t enough for the talented Pershing team featuring MSU bound Keith Appling and Derrick Nix. Juwan Howard Jr. also stole the show for Pershing.

This post is long already so I’m not really going to focus on 2011 kids that much. I will hopefully get into a little more when I get the 2011 hotboard completed.

Recruiting Roundup (1-26-09)

Commits

Darius Morris

I posted a great Darius Morris video interview courtesy of Ball Is Life. Windward had the week off and will be back in action 1/27.

Matt Vogrich

Lake Forest moved to 14-3 on the season after a huge win over Warren High School and Illinois-bound Brandon Paul. Bill St. John was on hand and wrote up a terrific game update that I posted over the weekend. Matt posted 35 points in the win.

Blake McLimans

A rough week for Worcester with losses to South Kent School and Brewster Academy. Blake had 7 points and 5 blocks against South Kent but only had 2 points against Brewster. Blake continues to struggle a bit but he has been reportedly getting more and more comfortable as the season goes on. Worcester is half way home so it will be interesting to follow Blake’s progress in the second half of the season.

If you are looking for some more video from Worcester’s season you can check out the Worcesterhoops collection for plenty of game footage. You will want to watch the most recently added clips because those are from this season.

Jordan Morgan

Jordan scored 14 points in U-D’s win over Detroit Catholic Central.

“It started with our defense. We had a lot of intensity with our stops and steals that led to quick shots and rebounds,” said Morgan, who had 14 points and eight rebounds. “We just had to play to our abilities.”

Eso Akunne (pref. walk on)

Eso keeps on balling. Gabriel Richard rolled over Detroit Loyola by a score of 57-64. Eso had 20 points in the win. Richard also handled Notre Dame Prep, 72-47. Eso had 21 points included 2 three pointers against Notre Dame. Another Michigan target, junior Josh Herbeck, had 16 points against Notre Dame and 25 (5 triples) against Loyola..

2009 Recruits

Angus Brandt

Brandt dominated the Indiana squad LaLumiere and posted 26 points. Brandt also had 19 points in a 67-50 win over North Grand. The Aussie big man reportedly still has a lot of interest in Michigan so it will be interesting to see how his recruitment plays out.

2010 Recruits

Isaiah Sykes

Isaiah SykesSay Hello to Isaiah Sykes. Sykes scored 25 points Tuesday against Denby but his first big test was Friday’s battle with Detroit Southeastern. Sykes wasn’t the start but he led Finney to a 47-38 win over Detroit Southeastern. Sykes finished with 8 but received plenty of praise from his teammate:

“He adds a dimension,” Haynes said of the 6-foot-5 Sykes. “He can handle the ball and make shots. He’s a go-to guy like Kobe at the end. He scores, rebounds, blocks shots.”

Coaches from Tennessee, Michigan, and Western Michigan were in attendance.

Trey Zeigler

Mount Pleasant moved to 6-5 with a 66-58 win over Bay City Western. Zeigler had 24 points and Mount Pleasant has won 5 of their last six.

Moses Morgan

Palo Verde suffered a disappointing 65-75 loss to Cheyenne, the #1 team in the Las Vegas area. Moses was held scoreless in the first half but finished the game with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Moses will get another chance at Cheyenne next Friday when the teams face off again.

Will Regan

Nichols didn’t have any games this week.

Alex Dragicevich

Dragicevich hit four three pointers en route to 18 points in a 75-50 win over Niles North.

Casey Prather

Prather falls into the category “Blowing Up”. It’s not going to be easy for Michigan to pull the talented and athletic wing from the south in my opinion. Prather had 23 points in a North Side win this week.

Allen Payne

Winton Woods went 0-2 last week with losses to Roger Bacon and Anderson, I don’t see any statistics for either game.

Tim Hardaway Jr.

Hardaway Jr. had 27 points including 4 three pointers and 7 assists in a 78-64 win over Belen. Hardaway had 15 (2 three pointers) in a 73-32 win over Homestead. Palmetto wrapped up a 3-0 week with a 74-63 win over South Dade. Hardaway had 37 points (5 three pointers) and 5 rebounds in the win.

Cameron Ayers

Germantown made it through the week 3-0. Ayers had 13 points, 7 boards, and 3 assists in a 2 point win over Malvern Prep. He also scored 14 in a 66-45 win over Haverford. Germantown finished the week with a Sunday win over Girard College.

Detroit Country Day

Ray McCallum vs BellevilleFor those wondering about 2009 big man DaShonte Riley, Inside Prep Sports reports that he plans to visit Marquette and February and is also getting looks from Missouri, Oregon, Oregon State, Boston College, South Florida, and Virginia. Scout also has a free look at Ray McCallum.

2011 Recruits

Brandan Kearney & Percy Gibson

Brandan Kearney vs FinneyKearney had 12 points in an easy 63-38 win over Osborn. From what I can tell neither Kearney or Gibson were particularly spectacular in the disappointing loss to Finney (see Isaiah Sykes above).

Carlton Brundidge

Brundidge had 37 points for Southfield in a 66-61 loss. Carlton is definitely a big time sophomore prospect in the state and will be in the discussion for best player in his class. Brundidge has been at a few Michigan games this year so it appears there is at least some interest.

Mitch McGary

The sophomore big man took over for Chesterton last week. McGary scored 15 of his game high 24 points after halftime including 9 in the fourth quarter. Chesterton knocked off Portage by a score of 66-59. McGary also had eight rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists while going 7 of 10 at the stripe. (Radio archive)

Recruiting Roundup (1-19-09)

Site Notes

I added a list of “useful stuff” to the right column which includes:

I’m working on the plus/minus from the last two games. I went through the OSU game but I still have to go through the Illinois game.

Commits

Darius Morris

Darius Morris and his Windward High team cruised through this week with three victories. A 69-50 win over Valley Christian was followed by a 56-44 win over Montclair Prep. These were two games against teams right around .500 that Windward should have (and did) win fairly easily.

Finally a 65-51 win over Pacific Hills in the MLK Hoops Shootout. Morris had 20 points (5 three pointers) and 7 assists against Pacific Hills. California Preps has a full recap of the game ($). Pacific Hills (16) was ranked above Windward (18) in last week’s LA Times poll so this is definitely a big win.

Matt Vogrich

Matt Vogrich led Lake Forest to two more big wins this week.

The first was a 44-43 win over cross town rival Lake Forest Academy. Lake Forest came back after trailing by to Academy and Australian big man (and Michigan recruiting target) Angus Brandt.  Vogrich had 16 points in the win and was instrumental to the comeback. Video from the fourth quarter is posted below:

LFA big man Angus Brandt had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Brandt is one of the top 2009 unsigned big men in the country and has mentioned Michigan pretty consistently through his recruitment. The issue is that Michigan doesn’t have an open scholarship right now, that being said there are numerous ways that one could open up and he is worth keeping an eye on.

Lake Forest followed up the big win over Lake Forest Academy with a 51-46 win over Libertyville. Vogrich didn’t have his best night but he still led the Scouts with 15 points.

“I didn’t really shoot well because I got in foul trouble and couldn’t get in rhythm,” Vogrich said. “We didn’t play well, but we got it done.”

Blake McLimans

Worcester Academy had a 3-0 week with wins over Proctor Academy, Northfield Mount Hernon, and St. Andrews (79-64). Blake still hasn’t quite found his groove offensively but he played one of his best games of the season against Mount Hernon.

Jordan Morgan

Jordan Morgan was featured on State Champs this weekend as the Student Athlete of the Week. To see the video, go to statechamps.tv, click the Wendy’s icon, and then click Jordan Morgan’s name on the left column.

U-D Jesuit knocked off Brother Rice 75-70 this week to move to 5-1 on the season.

2009 Recruits

Eso Akunne

GoBlueWolverine posted a video interview with Eso Akunne ($).

Richard bounced back after last week’s loss to Detroit Country Day with two wins. The Fighting Irish knocked off Royal Oak Shrine 67-31. Akunne had 14 points in the win. They added another blow out win over Madison Height Bishop Foley, 79-58, thanks to Eso’s 18 points.

2010 Recruits

Trey Zeigler

Trey ZeiglerMount Pleasant rolled over Flint Northern 82-67. Zeigler had 31 points, 16 boards, six assists and two blocks. The Oilers followed up that performance with a disappointing 63-66 loss to Traverse City West. Zeigler had another all-around game with 25 points, 10 boards, six assists, and five steals.

Will Regan

Nichols Academy rolled to two wins this week. First over Cardinal O’Hara (68-38) and then over East (55-41). Regan had 20 points (16 in the second half).

“It wasn’t really what I did, it was what my teammates did,” said Regan, a 6-foot-9 junior and major Division I recruit. “My teammates were able to find me on reversals and stuff like that. When [East’s Henry Mingo] did try to front, we just reversed it and headed low, and I was able to do a better job keeping him behind me when I was in the post.

Alex Dragicevich

Glenbrook North lost to Glenbrook South by a score of 41-40. Dragicevich had 17 points and 5 boards in the losing effort.

North bounced back with a 49-34 win over Deerfield. Alex posted a team high 20 points.

Moses Morgan

Palo Verde knocked off Valley by a score of 77-52. Morgan was limited due to foul trouble but still led all scorers with 28 points and 9 boards.

“We came out slow as a team,” said junior Moses Morgan. “We should have done way better defensively, they were getting by us and we weren’t helping each other out. I think it was because of finals week, everybody had testing and we didn’t have practice for a few days.”

Casey Prather

Casey PratherCasey Prather continues to put up monster numbers. Prather had 31 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks in a 71-59 win over Jackson Central-Merry. Coaches from Michigan, Virginia, and Clemson were in attendance.

Allen Payne

Allen Payne had 17 points (5-6 shooting), 9 rebounds, and a block in a 68-69 loss to Mason. He followed that up with a 8 point performance on 3-9 shooting with 3 boards, 1 assist and 5 steals in a 42-40 win over Glen Este.

Tim Hardaway Jr.

Palmetto split two games this week but I don’t have any numbers for Hardaway Jr.

Cameron Ayers

Germantown beat Episcopal 50-40 and Cameron Ayers had a solid night with 20 points.

Maurice Jones

Maurice jones is small but he is producing for Arthur Hill. The little point guard had 36 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in an Arthur Hills win over Southfield Lathrup.

2011+ Recruits

Brandan Kearney & Percy Gibson

Rivals posted some video ($) of  the Southeastern duo. Southeastern knocked off Auburn Hills Avondale 65-46 thanks to 23 points from Percy Gibson.

Amir Williams

GoBlueWolverine posted a video interview ($) with the 2011 big man.

Matt Poches

Matt Poches had 20 points and 10 boards in a 88-70 win over Walled Lake Northern.

Mitch McGary

Mitch McGary scored 16 points and pulled down 11 boards in a Chesterton loss.

Recruiting Roundup (12-29-2008)

Commits

Darius Morris

Darius led Windward to a 54-50 win over Bellarmine Prep. Morris had a game high 22 points including 2 free throws with 50 seconds left to give Windward the lead. In the next game of the Max Preps classic Windward fell to Bellevue (WA) by a score of 57-48, Morris had 18 in the loss [HIGHLIGHTS].

Here are some notes from a UMHoops reader who made it to Darius’ first game:

  • Anthony Stover (former UM recruit-headed to UCLA) looks shockingly similar to Greg Oden. Stover does not have an offensive game but had around 10 blocks. Big project on the next level.
  • They played against Bellarmine Prep from Northern Cal. Team had only one D1 player (Niyi Harrison) headed to Santa Clara.
  • Malcolm Washington (Denzel’s son) was a good scrappy player.
  • Steve Kerr was in the building watching. Gym 70% full.  It was close the entire game, Windward won 54-50.
  • Morris finished with 22 points on 9-22 shooting. The best thing was that he scored his points in a variety of ways, mostly drives. He had a beautiful separation fade-away to end the first quarter. He picked up his third foul with 4 minutes left in the second quarter. Great penetrator in the open court, made a lot of no look passes. Would have had around 10 assists if his teammates could make their layups. His on court demeanor was good, pretty positive with the rest of his teammates.
  • I feel that D-mo will be much better when he is surrounded by better players. In my opinion his coaching is subpar, his team has 3 D1 players and the game shouldn’t have been close.
  • The team ran a lot of these NBA sets to isolate D-Mo with the ball, but he would do nothing with it. I think D-Mo is a good penetrator but he doesn’t have a fast first step.
  • He will be much better in Michigan’s offense with much more running. If he were playing for Michigan today he would play 20 mins a game. Overall, D-mo was pretty much everything I expected; nothing great but everything solid.

Matt Vogrich

Lake Forest is off to a good start in the State Farm Holiday Classic with wins over Kankakee Bishop Mac (box) and Sterling (box).  Vogrich led all scorers in both wins with 27 and 24 point performances. Lake Forest plays Normal Community High School in the semi-finals today at 4:30 PM.

The folks at Scout.com were big fans of Matt’s play this week at the State Farm Classic. They mentioned that beyond his shooting he is a tough player who can get to the hole and also plays well away from the ball.

Jordan Morgan

Morgan bounced back after a frustrating start to his season with 28 points in a 72-63 win over Detroit Cass Tech.

Blake McLimans

Blake was listed as one of the top shooters in the NE area by the NERR. It’s been a transition for Blake at Worcester but his numbers seem to be going up as he gets more in the swing of things. I’ve only seen a little bit of video but you can see why Beilein loves the kid. Blake looks so comfortable putting the ball on the floor and shooting it that you wouldn’t believe he’s 6-10.

’10 Recruits

Will Regan

Will Regan had 19 points 10 rebounds and six blocks in Nichols’ 53-46 win over Poly-Tech. Regan has been a monster early on for Nichols and I wouldn’t be surprised to see his stock continue to rise.

Alex Dragicevich

Glenbrook North beat Hillcrest (45-43) but fell to Morton (63-51). Dragicevich had 24 points and 6 rebounds against Hillcrest, but only had 7 points and 5 turnovers against Morton while shooting 1-8 from long range.

GBN will be in action again this afternoon in the consolation bracket.

Tim Hardaway Jr.

Hardaway Jr. had 25 points in Palmetto’s 69-55 win over Columbia at the Hoopla at Vero Beach.

Cameron Ayers

Germantown lost to Archibishop Carroll 63-52. Ayers had 17 points with three triples.

Germantown beat North Catholic 57-56 and Cameron Ayers scored 24 points with a triple and 10 made field goals.

Allen Payne

Winton Woods beat Seminole, FL 61-54 in the first round of the Seminole Classic. They will be in action Monday and Tuesday as well.

Ray McCallum

Ray McCallumThe talented point guard has been dominating the competition early on this year. McCallum is probably a long shot for U-M but his play is worth mentioning. McCallum had 18 in an overtime win against Chicago DeLaSalle and 27 in a blowout win over Grand Ledge.

’11+ Recruits

Brandan Kearney & Percy Gibson

Detroit Southeastern beat Saginaw 65-61. Kearney and Gibson both had solid games. Kearney hit a couple triples for 9 points and 6 assists. Kearney hasn’t been putting up gaudy numbers but everything you read about Brandan points to his poise and being a smart player. Gibson had 8 points and 10 boards.

Matt Poches and Patrick Lucas-Perry

Flint Powers handled Hartland 94-71 at the Motor City Roundball Classic. PLP had 18 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals on 50% shooting. Poches had 20 points for Hartland.
