  • AAtoLA

DJ was sleeping all game. He’s standing at half court. Great job.

    • A2MIKE

Agreed…. wtf was that set up

  • MLaw

Do we get to redeem this Karma in the NCAA tournament? Cause this year has had so much heartache.

    • Indiana_Matt

      Oh, man I hope so.

    • Stephen Chang

Now the Nebraska game becomes important

  • Chace

Season of missed opportunities for Michigan this year two many close losses

  • bebopson

Why the F was DJ not protecting the lane?

    • Coltrane

      That’s my question as well.

  • MGoTweeter

Cmon btn at least show us the look of the whole play so we can see what the heck happened. So sick of this garbage coverage.

  • MLaw

I blame ESPN for showing that the game was headed to OT on their website when the game wasn’t over yet.

  • malcolm bolt

I’ll trade this loss for a BTN tournament Championship.

  • TOTO-Lover

Maybe drops us to a 10 and out of the 8/9 game?

    • MLaw

I mean totally worth it if that is how it works out, but this game was likely more of a win for a 7 seed, lose for a 10 seed kind of deal. Just means we have more pressure on us. Kudos to NW for winning a game that absolutely positively had to have on a “storybook” shot. They won’t do that again for 20 years.

  • malcolm bolt

That would’ve been offsides in soccer, lol.

  • Mattbuckets

Can you stand 8 feet deep on the baseline to throw that pass?

  • Chace

It seems like it’s a struggle for us to win close games I believe 8of our 11 losses have been wire to wire and we just can’t pull it out…. we have an experienced team so frustrating

  • GTFOmycourt

Man. Initially putting Wilson on the inbounder seemed smart to me….Maybe stick with that plan next time?

  • Jordan23

I liked the jumping jacks defense by Donnal

  • AAtoLA

    1) Walton second to last possession playing 1 on 5

    2) Zak takes the last shot?

    3) 9 seconds left we don’t call time out?

    4) Wagner 1-1 and we can’t even get a free throw off?

    5) DJ sleep walking the entire game. Why is he standing at half court that last Hail Mary?

We lost the game. Can only blame ourselves.

    • iBleedBlue

      yup

      • AAtoLA

That was sick to watch. Self inflicted wounds.

    • iBleedBlue

      You forgot 11/17 on FTs

  • BKBlue

That was the exact KenPom projection

    • MLaw

Wow if KenPom projected a full court pass with 1.7 seconds left I really need to get a subscription!

    • jemblue

KenPom projected NW by 1. They won by 2.

      • BKBlue

It’s the exact score that was in the preview on here anyway. “KenPom gives Michigan a 44% chance at the road upset, projecting a 67-65 Northwestern win.”

        • MLaw

          That is actually pretty incredible.

  • Chace

7 seed in BIG tournament here we come

  • Jordan23

Are we sure we can beat Nebraska? It’s on the road! Northwestern has been a bag of a** for several games now and we couldn’t stop them in the second half.

    • MLaw

This was their season. They should have beaten Indiana and they played their hearts out. It was a good game by basically equal teams. They got the final break. If we play as poorly in the first half against Nebraska as we did in the first half today, then you can panic.

  • jemblue

Man, not getting to shoot those two FTs…

  • bobohle

I just don’t know how you can let Pardon catch that. Maybe should have brought in Teske to guard the pass in bounds? Donnal did nothing to affect the in bounds pass.

    • Kevin Dale

      I agree

  • Fab 5 Legends

Walton got elbowed on that play

  • MGoTweeter

Don’t know exactly what happened on that last play (thanks btn). So caveats aplenty but although beilein might be one the greatest X’s and O’s coaches out there, he is terrible on late clock defense. Once or twice is just a coincidence but Michigan has lost far too many games on last second defense off inbounds plays. No idea what dj Wilson was doing on that play but you can’t let anybody behind you no matter what.

In the end the no show first half and the three straight bad offensive possessions up two late game really did Michigan in. As good as this team is when they are playing well, they are still a ways from being consistent enough to make a run in the tournament.

    • gobluemd16

Totally agree with this. Just sent a similar post. Late game we had all the chances and screwed up, even before the last play fiasco. And I totally agree that Beilein deserves a large shoulder of blame. Also, has DJ had a good road game this yr?

      • bobohle

        Iowa

      • iBleedBlue

Iowa. But you’re right, his offense seems to disappear on the road

        • jemblue

          Minnesota too.

    • Kevin Dale

Not to blame Donnal again but why not Wilson or someone with more reach guarding the inbounds?

  • gobluemd16

WE have nobody to blame but ourselves. Had so many chances, dont get a FT off, duncan plays good D, we have ball with 9 sec left and manage to lose. This team finds ways to lose on the road – bottom line. Didnt make enough plays. And some blame should be squarely on beilein. He botched the end of that game in my opinion. How is walton under the basket with 1,5 frickin seconds left????

    • Coltrane

So you think Beilein told Wilson to roam around the court?

      • gobluemd16

He certaintly wasnt under the basket. Who knows?

        • Coltrane

Well I’d like to know before I put the blame squarely on his shoulders.

      • MGoTweeter

I have no idea what beilein told Wilson or what their plan was but I’m so sick of seeing teams consistently get great looks at the basket with almost no time on the clock inbounded the ball. I watch a ton of college basketball and it’s amazing how often his teams give up easy looks in those situations. He is a great coach but it’s bordering on clueless in these situations

  • Chace

Who was under the basket on the other end I didn’t get to watch game… sounds like Walton was on pardon??

  • Stephen Chang

Time for this team to regroup, they have a critical game coming up against Nebraska, they are not a great team, but since it is their senior night, they might play with more effort. Bigger question will be, can this team respond from this loss and bounce back or do they fold?

  • MLaw

As tough as this is for fans, it’s 10 times worse for players and coaches. I guarantee they are pissed about this result too. Beilein is either unlucky or bad with 1-2 seconds left in the game, but we played a game at Northwestern to a draw for 39:58.

Whether people recognize NW is good this year or not, this doesn’t mean we suck or can’t play or should quit.

  • MaizeBlue10

End of the day you have the ball with 9 seconds left in a tie game. You have to choke to lose it at that point and they did, no sugar coating it.

Don’t care about Irvin taking that shot but you CANT shoot it with time left on the clock there.

    • MLaw

I think that was a 1 in a million pass that we just got unlucky on. Much more likely an underneath pass for a half court shot in that situation.

      • iBleedBlue

They get props for the execution. But idk how it ended up that Walton was guarding Pardon. Of course BTN coverage gave no answers

      • MaizeBlue10

Absolute lucky pass, but I hate we gave them that chance. Win it or OT.

        • MLaw

I said we should have called TO before the final shot, but that doesn’t mean what happened at the end was a mistake.

We made lots of mistakes and so did NW. No team in the country plays perfectly. Sometimes I feel fans expect a perfect basketball game, and that’s not basketball, more so football.

          • MaizeBlue10

I’m not looking at the whole game, just the last 9 seconds. No clock awareness and then bad defensive execution on the last play. Beilein was bad too, why not Teske on the inbounder? What’s the point for Donnal?

          • MLaw

I agree about calling the Timeout there.

          • AAtoLA

Don’t expect perfection obviously. But half a dozen mental errors in last 2 minutes. That’s poor late game execution. Need to minimize that.

          • MLaw

Agreed. that was one too many mistakes. That is part of why the team lost, but just as much was an incredible once in a lifetime play. They earned it, we didn’t, etc, but that was a game until the final 9 seconds and people need to remember that too.

          • AAtoLA

My point is there are things that you could have done within your sphere of influence and control to not allow it to even get to the point where an incredible once in a lifetime play matters.

Time to regroup and focus on Nebraska. A lot to be learned from this game.

    • AAtoLA

Which is why they should have called a time out to get a goodnight possession. Why save the time out?

  • Kevin Kerfoot

I felt like I just watched the Lions lose to the Packers on a Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary!!! What a weird ending to lose a game! Last second shot and a rare lane violation! Wow! Michigan should of won this game! I hope we can beat Nebraska! If not and lose our 1st Big Ten tournament game we could be hosting an NIT game!! I hope this doesn’t happen! What now????

    • MLaw

Not sure if serious or a troll.

      • MGoTweeter

He is definitely a troll but I humored him with an answer

    • MGoTweeter

Don’t think they are in any danger of missing the tournament. But that last play was borderline Jim Caldwell saying he expected the “pass back and forth kind of thing.”

  • MaizeBlue10

Wouldn’t have mattered with that pass but why was Teske not on the inbounder? That was just not executed well defensively

    • MLaw

I’m certain Teske hasn’t been drilling last second inbounds passes when he is still learning the offense/defense schemes.

      • MaizeBlue10

I meant it as in place of Donnal for his length

        • MLaw

I agree that Donnal is shorter, and less physical, and generally not well suited for a high pressure scenario.

Actually, why was Donnal out there again?

          • bobohle

            Ask JB

          • AAtoLA

Originally it wasn’t dj on the ball. Then we called time out and then put Donnal on the ball. I don’t get it.

      • MGoBlueAdam

You don’t even need to know how to play basketball to stand there and guard an inbounds passer.. just be long and make it difficult for him to get a clean pass off… fairly certain Teske could’ve done that much

  • realber

beat nebraska and we punch our ticket. I don’t want to think about the alternative.
