    Moe needs to rebound better

  • JJ3ball

Walton off the bounce with the game on the line is not a situation I like to see

  • Cory

Fingers crossed that this is our only Jon Crispin game this year.

  • Chezaroo

Man does Iowa have some impressive Frosh

  • MLaw

Both teams making crazy shots now. Not sure what to think about this…

  • Jdubb40

    Let’s talk about Walton now.

  • MGoTweeter

    Lol. And they call that

  • gobluemd16

    About that improved defense…

  • jemblue

Never understood why the bonus situation continues into OT. It should reset and kick in around the 3rd foul or so.

  • Cliff Pappe

    Finally, Walton did something.

  • jakelam2116

    oh Irvin baddd gamble

    • MGoTweeter

Don’t understand the angle he took. Thought he could have had it but he seemed to fade away from the ball

  • MAZS

how about a look for robinson…or wilson

    • MAZS

      but not that one

  • Chezaroo

    What?

  • Chris De Sana

    Lost composure there

  • ChiMan

58% from three……Where is this improved defense?!

    • MGoTweeter

      Have u watched the game?

      • ChiMan

I have watched the entire game. The defense has improved slightly, in areas, I’ll give you that (and I’m likely overrreacting here slightly. I was just baffled when I read that stat just now

    • jemblue

“Three-point defense” is basically a myth.

  • MAZS

we’ve reacted all game—Iowa has dictated pace

  • jdubbb40

    Walton

  • MLaw

Potentially devastating loss. Iowa isn’t going anywhere but the NIT. This would be really damaging.

    • MGoTweeter

Wouldn’t say that. It’s a road big ten game. Never know what you are gonna get no matter how good or bad you are.

      • MLaw

Iowa RPI 153, Lowest rated team on the road this year. Need to steal some road games and this was the easiest one.

        • Wayman Britt

100% agree with you, but others have lower expectations

  • MGoTweeter

Defense has not been great the latter part of the second half and ot but Iowa just continues to make shots no matter the difficulty. Overall I’d take this defensive effort for 17 more big ten games

    • jemblue

And the defensive slump coincided with foul trouble/Iowa in the bonus.

  • Chris De Sana

How long b 4 they foul?

    • MGoTweeter

I’d say immediately if you don’t steal the inbounds

      • Chris De Sana

        Ditto extend extend extend

  • JOhn

    Not a foul.

  • jakelam2116

quite the quick whistle there. didn’t see foul.

    • MGoTweeter

Maybe on Irvin but certainly not much on Wilson there

  • jemblue

    Looked like a tie-up.

  • Cory

    So disappointing.

  • MLaw

Iowa should foul right away honestly.

  • Wayman Britt

    Very winnable game, tough lost

    • bobohle

Cook and Bohanon are 2 college ready freshmen

      • Wayman Britt

        How about our freshman??

        • bobohle

        • Chris De Sana

          Not so much

  • MGoTweeter

I know he was hot all game but not sure I like Wilson taking those two threes in crucial situations.

    • jakelam2116

      agree

    • Chris De Sana

Maybe your not sure but I am, don’t like him in that situation

  • Chris De Sana

5 loss I a row to Iowa? Really?

    • Wayman Britt

This is what UM is the last three years.

  • MGoTweeter

Had their chances. Tough loss. Michigan played well enough to win. Can’t get down about that performance bc if they play that well on the road the rest of the way they will win a bunch of games.

    • Chris De Sana

If Iowa was an elite team would agree, but they are not

    • MLaw

I dunno this is a bad bad loss, worst of the year by far at least for now. I don’t see Iowa finishing above .500 and will be a sub-100 loss. That’s pretty rough for a bubble team, which we are. Hard to be down about the effort, which I am not, but the result is devastating.

      • Wayman Britt

Perfectly said, if you are a bubble team, which UM is, that was a bad lost.

        • MGoTweeter

You can’t get that wrapped up in results. Michigan played well and would have beaten a lot of teams better than Iowa today. Just so happens Iowa had a hot shooting game and Michigan couldn’t make enough offensive plays to win it

          • ChiMan

I really, really am trying to focus on the positive and think this way but it just seems so many teams have their best shooting games against us. I keep waiting for teams to have their worst shooting games against us lol

          • MLaw

I’m a big Beilein fan, but results do matter especially in basketball. I think you need to be aware of RPI of opponents. I wasn’t upset about VT because a top 50-75 team is one you can lose and not get hurt too much. This game cost us two losses later in the year.

          • MGoTweeter

I think we are arguing two separate issues. I’m not commenting on how this game looks on a resume. I’m commenting about the way Michigan played today and what it means for future games. As I said below, I feel better about michigans chances of being a good team after this game than I would have if Iowa had played terrible and Michigan won an ugly game 56-54

        • Jdubb40

So you saying Michigan will be a bubble team. You funny

    • Wayman Britt

That was not a good team though

    • MGoTweeter

I understand what you guys are saying but Iowa had one their best shooting performances of the year. It happens. Michigan wasn’t giving them good looks all game, they just made shots. An elite team might not make that many against Michigan today

      • Chris De Sana

The scoreboard matters in the end, a loss to a team that has little shot to make the tourney hurts.

        • MGoTweeter

It hurts in the sense that it’s a missed opportunity. if Michigan played terrible and Iowa played terrible but Michigan won 56-54, I would feel a whole lot worse about their chances the rest of the season than I do right now after that loss

  • gobluemd16

Two huge threes down the stretch taken by DJ? Not what I want. Absolutely brutal loss, similar to VT. Same feeling after. Good teams win that game today

    • MGoTweeter

They didn’t play this well against vt certainly not down the stretch

      • gobluemd16

Agree. Both games there for the taking and prob win both > 50% of the time. Iowa is going to be borderline top-100 by end of the year, IMO. They got lucky a lot tonight and part of that was our weak defense in the 2H and OT.

        • gobluemd16

Considering they are 8-6, probably will end up under .500, actually. Eesh. Worse than i thought.

          • MLaw

This is an RPI anchor game, not disappointed with the effort, but that really puts us in a hole. Need to steal a big game now.

    • Tuff Enough

Nit bound if lucky disappointment with the players that have experience..

  • MTung

The end of regulation sequence with Walton’s confusion/mental error was simply inexcusable. Have to get a shot off there. Especially on the road.

    • ChathaM

That is on Beilein, not Walton. With 15 seconds left and the ball in a tie game, you have to use that timeout to set up something for a good last second look. You cannot leave a kid on an island in that situation.

      • MTung

Disagree. Derrick is our co-captain senior point guard leader. When Belein elected to not call a timeout, he needed to MOVE. Instead, he brought the ball up court slowly, waited to drive until there was less than 5 seconds on the clock (from 30+ feet), and then appeared to try to draw a foul when Iowa still had a foul to give. Astonishingly, no real awareness of the game situation or urgency to make a play.

        • ChathaM

Fair enough, and it’s fair to expect an experienced senior to be able to make a play. But, this really goes to my feeling that college coaches in general are poor at managing late game situations. I mean, if you want to see bad late game possessions, college basketball is the place to be. We see it all the time throughout college ball. How do you not have a specific set to run in the most crucial of crucial game situations? Call timeout, get everyone organized, and put your team in the best position to get off a good shot.

  • moenice

    Zak sucks

    • Chris De Sana

Not a Zak fan but not sure he sucks, not what I would had hoped at this point in his career that is for sure. He excels in the mid range so we need to get him shots off the curl cut. His handles and distribution were not good tonight. My bigger issue was his poor defense, he lost his man often and they almost always made UM pay when he did.

      • ChiMan

^^^ This! I get that Peter Jok is an incredible athlete but 25 points from him and we’re going to have a tough time winning. Also, Rahk playing so horribly right now limits our options so much.

      • moenice

Yeah, I was a bit upset; I expect more from a senior….but I’m not sure we are getting the right mix of athletes with Beilein. I look at other programs and I’m envious.

        • Chris De Sana

We probably agree on more than we do not, jut my opinion but coach never capitalized on the back to back elite 8 appearances by landing top flight recruits. It seems like we re constantly wishing and hoping for lightening in a bottle, land a rising 2 or 3 star recruit and hope they turn into a world beater.

          Hope is not a strategy.

  • gobluemd16

Thought we needed to start 4-1 in conference play to set us up for the remaining slate. Puts a lot of pressure on the next few home games.

  • jemblue

Not to be the guy complaining about the officiating but it sure felt like the refs changed the game with those four fouls in 30 seconds, right when we were opening up a lead.

    • A2MIKE

Brovosky always calls a game in which I feel like we got the shaft

  • A2MIKE

Walton is not a good player. Bohannon got by him multiple times late. Walton made him look like Steve Nash. And then on offense, a senior needs to be better than that in late clock situations. I mean he can’t make a contested layup in years.

    • Chris De Sana

He is not a good on the ball defender; not can he take his man on the dribble which is a key component to this offense as it has not low post threat.

  • Chris De Sana

Comes down to this; up 5 with the ball under the 6 minute mark to this Iowa team is not good. And never getting shot off at the end of regulation and/or OT is not good. No matter the spin that is a trifecta for a loss.

  • Scott Johnson

This team is the most frustrating Beilein team. They have opportunities to be so much better but they can not finish games out.

  • Chezaroo

Iowa has a nice Freshmen class. Be very interesting to see how they progress in the B1G going forward.

  • Indiana_Matt

Before the season I wouldn’t have believed this kind of game from DJ. Hope he can keep it up in the conference. We need it desperately.

  • Tuff Enough

Role players that’s all Zak and Walton seem to be period. 5 star and 4 star recruit and they are seniors too. Its either the coaches or players bottomline that are not getting it done. Beilein has to stop bringing in this soft players and expecting to be able to hang in the Big Ten. Good luck with that it seems like his thing..
