Michigan offers five-star wing Kris Wilkes

Dylan Burkhardt

Michigan extended a scholarship offer to five-star wing guard Kris Wilkes this afternoon.

Wilkes was on campus for an unofficial visit when he received his offer from Michigan head coach John Beilein. He is ranked 12th nationally according to the 247 Sports Composite and also holds offers from Butler, Indiana, Maryland, UCLA, Ohio State and others.

Wilkes will be headed to Colorado this week for the USA Basketball U18 training camp which begins on Tuesday.

Michigan has one commitment in the class of 2017, from Milwaukee guard Jordan Poole, and Wilkes joins Jaren Jackson, Kyle Young, and Jamal Cain as a 2017 prospect with a Wolverine offer.

I’m glad we are still on the radar for 5 star recruits and still recruiting them but our recent track record indicates this an extreme long shot. We have only picked up one top 50 recruit in the last 3 classes…. after a National Championship appearance.

And I don’t think the “one and done” caliber recruits are a great fit anyway. We need to focus our efforts on recruits ranked 25-100, preferably with a couple top 50 recruits each year.

Of course that would be a step up from recent recruiting but likely necessary to make another Final Four run.

This was a no brainer offer. This guy is gooood! The only down side is his list of schools is huge. He’s about to cut the list to 10. I hope Beilein had his best selling clothes on this weekend.

His tweet sounds like he’s ecstatic over the offer…not.

We’re out. Did not make his top 5.
