Video: Ibi Watson Senior Highlights

Dylan Burkhardt

Class of 2016 wing Ibi Watson’s fellow incoming freshman, Xavier Simpson, might have been named Mr. Basketball in Ohio, but Watson had a great year himself. The 6-foot-5 wing averaged¬†19.3 points per game and was named First Team All-State in Ohio.

Here are senior season highlights of Watson in action from HWBD Hoops.

  • Champswest

    Good hops and handle.
Has opportunity to earn lots of minutes this year.

  • Derek Ruddell

Love his game, excited to see his development with a little added muscle.

  • A2MIKE

    Looks like a natural leader.

  • bobohle

I’ve said since his commitment that Ibi would be a contributor his freshman season. I believe it more so with each new video of him.

  • Michaeltheoriginal

Did Zac Ephron go to Camp Sanderson?

  • shielste

Bruh. I can see him and X developing a similar chemistry that Trey and THJ had. It’ll be fun watching those two connect with each other for 4 years.

    The future is bright!

What’s the over-under on Ibi Watson being better than Aubrey Dawkins was last year?
Over-under on Xavier Simpson being better than Spike Albrecht two years ago?
Over-under on Teske or Davis being better than Doyle last year?

    So, what’s everybody worried about?

  • NorthernBlue

One thing that impressed me in that video was his handle. That ups his potential as a creator obviously, but I didn’t know he could handle it that well in traffic. I feel he is more 6’4″ish than the 6’5″ and 6’6″ you see him listed at sometimes. He will have a chance to play next year if he can hold his own on D and fit in on offense (more optimistic about the latter). I’d call him a B1G quality player if I was a betting man, but hopefully he isn’t an Aubrey type on D and can make the proper reads/ reactions.

    • Wayman Britt

Yes, Ibi looks very athletic and can dribble. I only hope, like you do, that he can play better D than Aubrey. Just because you can jump out of the gym does not alway translate to a good player — see Aubrey — let’s hope Ibi is aggressive and can play defense. Let’s also hope he is not soft like Aubrey.

    • Champswest

He is 6’6′ with the hair.

  • Jake

Not bad, looks athletic and can dribble so that alone should have him getting minutes off the bench for the 2 and 3 spots. Like everyone else is saying, if he can play D which his highlights did not show, he might get serious playing time especially because we are so thin at those 2 positions

  • Barth Applefeld

It was a highlight, and he outclassed the competition so badly that it’s hard to evaluate him, but he looks to have very good athleticism, great body control, a good handle and a dynamite cross over, can drive and finish around the rim, and his jump shot looks solid. I
Welcome to Michigan! May he stay and blossom (unless he can leave and get a few million in the NBA, which, we would all understand).
