Game 10: Delaware State at Michigan Open Thread

Michigan hosts Delaware State this afternoon from the Crisler Center (12:00 p.m. on ESPNU). The Wolverines will be without Spike Albrecht, who announced he’s stepping away from basketball yesterday, and Derrick Walton remains questionable with a sprained ankle (although he’s participating in warmups for the second straight game).

Pregame Reading

  • No DJ Wilson in warmups so far. Believe that’s one of the injuries Beilein was referring to yesterday. Would have been a good chance to give him some time as well.

  • New starting lineup for Michigan. Insert Duncan Robinson along iwith Abdur-Rahkman, LeVert, Irvin and Doyle.

    • bobohle

Do you know if Dawkins was the other new injury?

  • Michigan vs. Delaware State is starting on ESPNews.

  • MGoBlueAdam

Irvin’s shot continues to be so broke.. His misses are not even close

  • Champswest

Glad to see Duncan get the start. It was nice to have him come off the bench, but we need his scoring right from the start.

  • Sleepy start for Michigan… Delaware State is obviously not very good, would like to see the offense a little more crisp.

  • MGoTweeter

Trying to watch the defense to see if they have made any adjustments. Michigan seems to be sitting back more but that might just be bc Delaware st is a terrible shooting team.

    • Hard to judge anything based on this game IMO. Agree they are sitting back, but as you say… Delaware State can’t shoot to save its life.

  • MGoTweeter

Stauskas err Robinson with a great drive and dish

  • Dakich with the driving layup!

  • No Aubrey Dawkins yet for Michigan … wonder if he’s working through an injury as well.

  • MGoTweeter

Dakich has the Steve wojciechowski clapping on d syndrome

    • MGoTweeter

Love that he was barking at the Michigan bench after that layup

  • Champswest

Bryant is up 20-10 versus #15 Providence at the 11:48 in the first.

    KAMERON CHATMAN

  • Kam Chatman is feeling it. Sophomore came off the bench before Dawkins today and is doing a bit of everything.

    • MGoTweeter

Be nice to see him build some confidence before big ten play. Definitely could use his passing ability on the floor. But I hate the long twos, especially early in the clock, that he has a tendency to take.

  • Champswest

Good to see Chatman knocking down shots.

    • Great stretch for him there.. Very interesting that he came off the bench before Aubrey Dawkins. Sending a message perhaps?

He probably made more positive plays other than made shots than Dawkins has made all season though.

  • Michigan going with a LeVert-Irvin backcourt here with Chatman and Dawkins on the wings.

    • Corperryale

Much better than with Dakich. No need to use him, even without Walton. LeVert can run the point just fine whenever MAAR is out.

  • MGoTweeter

Wow didn’t know Irvin could still dunk.

  • Champswest

Del. St. getting too many open looks.

    • I don’t think they have a shot attempt at the rim. Michigan’s game plan seems to be just pack it in and let them shoot over. Makes sense to me.

  • Corperryale

Seems like whenever Robinson misses a 3, he passes up the next open one (often with a shot fake, dribble and pass). Needs to be more confident and just keep shooting.

  • Kawtious

    Zak still struggling

  • Champswest

    Duncan with 4 assists.

  • MGoBlueAdam

I was hoping those dunks would get Irvin going, but still can’t shoot with two missed free throws.. I am just waiting for the game when irvin becomes a capable shooter again

  • Corperryale

Delaware State is a very bad team. LeMoyne’s probably better.

    • Corperryale

I would prefer more Delawares and fewer Delaware States for the tune-up games. There are various shades of mediocrity to choose from.

    • They are pretty rough. Liked Kam Chatman’s shift even though he still looks a bit loose with the ball. Also liked Duncan Robinson’s passing and the concentrated effort to get Doyle involved late.

  • MGoTweeter

Not the prettiest half but good to see guys like chatman and Doyle making contributions.

  • Jon Pence
  • Scores around the Big Ten… UConn 38, OSU 22 late in the first half.

  • Champswest

    Halftime Bryant 32 at #15 Providence 28.

  • Corperryale

Just an observation, but isn’t it very unusual for Michigan to wear the maize for cupcake games?

I think they wore them against EMU but I think that was to make a statement about the importance of the game after losing to NJIT. (It didn’t work.)

    • Yes. I tweeted something about this. Surprising to see them in ‘big game maize’ against the worst team on the schedule. Probably a way to try to get them to focus on avoiding a let down after Tuesday.

    • bobohle

      Maybe for Spike Albrecht

  • bobohle

Positive minutes from Chatman and Dakich.

  • Irvin finally knocks one down. This game is essentially a walk through for Michigan at this point. Just need to get out of there with everyone healthy.

    • MGoTweeter

Was it just me or was Robinson kinda gimpy for a few plays around the 19 minute mark. Didn’t seem to be able to run full speed

  • Corperryale

Who was that pass to? Looked like a no-look… to nobody.

  • Michigan has more field goals than Delaware State has points and DSU has more turnovers than made field goals.

    • Delaware State also has two points in the paint and 0 FTA.

  • MGoTweeter

Can they hold em to single digits this half?

  • Delaware State has made one shot in the second half with 5:51 to play.

  • jemblue

Let’s triple these guys up. When’s the last time we did that to a team?

  • Aubrey Dawkins is just in his own head. Missing dunks, missing threes. Just doesn’t look confident.

  • jemblue

Dawkins’ dunk percentage is taking a hit.

  • MGoTweeter

    Fastest game ever
