Michigan announces 2015-16 non-conference schedule

Dylan Burkhardt

Michigan formally announced its 2015-16 non-conference schedule this morning.

The non-conference schedule is highlighted by a trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament which also features Gonzaga, Syracuse, Texas, Texas A&M, UConn, Washington and Charlotte. The Wolverines will also host Xavier as part of the inaugural Gavitt Games and travel to face North Carolina State in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

John Beilein will also face off against his son, Patrick Beilein, in a November 6th exhibition contest, in his first game as a college head coach at Le Moyne. Michigan’s final high profile non-conference game will be the second leg of a home-and-home series against Larry Brown and SMU as the Wolverines will head to Dallas in early December.

Xavier, NC State, SMU will be good tests early on – not to mention Battle 4 Atlantis tournament – heres hoping those other games are easy W’s but we know what happened last year – i like the schedule, this team should be ready after last year let-down in the non-conference schedule

Xavier has some good players coming back. Texas A&M has a highly ranked incoming freshman class. Some good challenges for us. Can’t wait for the season.

For those interested (b/c I was), the B4A bracket was announced on 8/5 last year.

Lots of chatter on social media about how this is too dangerous of a schedule / he schedules too many 200+ teams. I can’t argue with the 200+ point, but generally don’t think you learn a ton beating a 175 team vs a 225 team, and overall want tough competition as a benchmark. Not here to win an RPI battle; here to learn/grow and be ready for March a la 2013-14.

    • Guarantee games are hard to avoid… Just have to hope a couple of those teams turn out better than expected.

Xavier will be a great measuring stick heading into Atlantis.

Looks like 14-0, maybe 13-1. Go Blue!

I’ll admit I had to look up Elon, can’t say if I ever heard of that college before.

Interesting how Xaveir and UM have recruited a lot of the same players. If you go down their roster, you see many names that Beilein was looking at and you can add Goodin to the list.

Hope lessons were learned from last years NJIT and EMU games. We can’t afford slip ups in the guarantee games.
