Demps looks like a beatnik from a bad 50s off-Broadway play.

  • MGoTweeter

    what was tht?

  • jakelam2116

    Climb the ladder, Aubrey!

  • JimC_UM

    This ain’t so well.

I’m just going to think about Harbaugh helping those stranded drivers.

  • psickert1

I don’t care what anyone says Spike can run this team better than Walton.

  • jakelam2116

    Big-time shot, Zak.

  • MLaw

This team has been so gut wrenching. They make you fall in love then jump on your heart the next second.

  • MGoTweeter

doesnt get any tougher than this

  • jakelam2116

Goodness how’d NW leave Zak so open again. Maybe too open.

  • Alo

    well thats game, night everyone

  • Gotta feel for these kids at this point. Doesn’t get worse than losing this game…

    • JohnNavarreIsMyHero

Gotta make FTs. Two good shooters. No excuses.

  • jakelam2116

    Aint over yet

  • Alo

    god, please….this is so painful

  • jakelam2116

    Irvin over Olah. Goodness.

  • Mattski

    Whose rotation was that?

  • A2MIKE

6th time this year, beilein lost the game with piss poor game management

    • MLaw

Wish it weren’t so, but I do feel like he has just been off this year. I understand with marginal teams every decision is amplified, but there have been 2-3 just heartbreakers that could have been avoided.

    • Chezaroo

Legito ate to 2nd guess him tonite for sure

    • countourzealous

What are you talking about? What about the players explicitly not defending the baseline 3?

      • A2MIKE

That BLOB play in OT was 7th grade level. Trying to outthoink the room.

  • Mattski

Tell you what–Zak is comfortable at crunch time.

  • countourzealous

What the heck am I watching? is this a video game? Holy WTF

  • jakelam2116

Jamal Crawford play right here, please.

  • countourzealous

Well, this is over. That was fun, when I thought we were going win in 4th. Then in the 1st overtime. And these refs suck. And this game was entertaining. And I’m pissed. I can’t even comprehend what’s going on.

  • MAZS

    just a little more heartbreak

  • MGoTweeter

zak had freethrows to win it in regulation andmissed. michigan could have fouled and didnt in regulation. spike hada free throw to make it a seven point game in ot andmissed. michigan had an obvious foul in ot and didnt.

    • countourzealous

If spike hit the first end of that pair in at the end of the 1st OT, it would have been over. Oh well. Stupid announcer had to mention the streak, obviously.

      • A2MIKE

Spike is not clutch, would have rather had Irvin shooting those

        • Under The Bridge

Spike was exhausted. His legs were going and that throws the mechanics off.

          • A2MIKE

Not just tonight, all season. When we need a big shot end of game, it just hasn’t happened for him. Still love him, but he is not clutch.

          • countourzealous

            I don’t think that’s fair.

  • MLaw

How many 3s did they hit in a row when they had to have it. Just so frustrating.

  • polisci

This one is on Coach. Twice we give them threes when a foul gives them two free throws. Yes, I know there is the huge risk of them getting three free throws. Wow, big risk. I don’t think there has been a single game lost because of fouling this year. Has there?

    • MGoTweeter

the reg play was a tough call bc the players have to make thatdecision on the fly. nw got the ballwith 20 seconds left i think, hard to foul at the right time there in a lie situation. the ot no foul is baffling bc there was no risk of three free throws

      • polisci

Yeah, not fouling in OT with the guy under the basket is horrible.

  • jakelam2116

Nothing to say except that feel for the kids. An unfair amount of heartbreak this year for an undermanned team. And tonight was the cruelest by far.

  • AADave

Missed free throws, inability to inbound the ball, questionable decision not to foul… All adds up to another OT loss when they should have won. And they had It won twice. So frustrating.

The positives – Dawkins, Irvin, Spike, etc.. Dawkins was obviously extremely underrated as a recruit. How could so-called recruiting experts miss on him? Elite athleticism, great handle, great stroke, smart, son of legendary player/coach. It’s bizarre.

Beilein is one of the top coaches in the game but has a couple glaring weaknesses which were apparent today. No other coach would have this team playing as well but his weaknesses cost the, another win.

Oh well. The ingredients are there for an NCAA tourney team next year… And another elite team if they pick up Wagner or Brown.

    • A2MIKE

The success of next year depends on beilein growing just as much as the players.

  • Under The Bridge

So frustrating. I was thinking that they should have fouled in regulation, but honest defense was probably the right choice given our rebounding situation. The three pointer in the 1st overtime never should have happened because the foot was on the line during the throw-in, but you have to expect a little home cooking from the officials on senior night. I really feel for Spike and Zak. One more free throw from either of them . . . .

  • Joel_C

Tre Demps credits God for his 2 game-tying 3’s.

    Thanks a lot, God.

    • SoBlue

Exactly.. Never trust anyone who gives dad’s cancer.

    • countourzealous

If there actually is a God and he’s watching a Michigan-Northwestern game, he’d be the worst God ever.

  • JohnNavarreIsMyHero

Unfortunately our two big play guys, Irvin and Spike missed two very key FTs. You cannot miss front end of 1 and 1s, especially when you already made 9 in a row.

These are the games where you wonder why you bother being a sports fan and waste 2.5 hours to lose a game that you already had won multiple times.

    • A2MIKE

Yeah the FT’s hurt. But that was the worst BLOB play I have ever seen at the end of OT. UNREAL!!! beilein needs to get a lot better in that regard. Been a problem for years, both offensively and defensively.

      • JohnNavarreIsMyHero

The guy we have to have inbounds it of course is our best FT shooter as well. This team choked, just like they did against Illinois.

  • Mark

At least we probably won’t have to watch them play in the NIT now.

    • JohnNavarreIsMyHero

I love this team, but yes, this season just needs to end.

I am tired of hearing Walton’s return is nowhere close before every game. He bypassed surgery, but it sounds like he is seriously injured or something.

    • Under The Bridge

I would love to watch them play in the NIT. I can’t fault the effort at all. Annoyed with the results, but I appreciate how hard they are trying.

      • JohnNavarreIsMyHero

Its not worth it when Beilein gets stubborn like this. I love him, but this is squarely on him.

        • Under The Bridge

The fouling thing? I just think that he is realistic about our rebounding and inbounding and rolled the dice.

          • JohnNavarreIsMyHero

I understand your points, but we have been burned by the same exact scenario multiples times this year and in the last few years.

          • Under The Bridge

Fair enough. He should probably try fouling in a similar situation. Why call heads every time? :)

          • JohnNavarreIsMyHero

Yep, why not try that strategy. Northwestern wasn’t a lock to make the FTs. Don’t make your team with zero depth play more OTs.
