Game 24: Michigan at Indiana Open Thread

Michigan faces Indiana this afternoon at Assembly Hall, where it has won just two games since 1989. The Wolverines have dropped two straight, and three of their last four, and are running out of chances for quality wins.

Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. on CBS and you can join the discussion in the open thread below.

WOW. MAAR gets destroyed on the rebound and no call and then we barely touch them and they get free throws. Unreal officiating. They deserve a raise.

    • Corperryale

We wrote nearly the exact same thing. That means it’s true.

  • Corperryale

Unbelievable. MAAR fouled hard but no call, but then when UM recovers the loose ball they call the foul on Michigan.

  • mstein23

    MAAR mauled, no call.

  • GregGoBlue

Zak Irvin with the SHOT FAKE

  • Dustin Stone

Irvin abuses Blackmon…I see you Zak

    • MGoTweeter

his best driving game of the year

  • mstein23

Spike fouled on that rebound as well. No call.

  • jakelam2116

    Finally an +1

    • Dustin Stone

Haha and this time there was zero contact

      • MLaw

Bad officials are bad. Some times it works for us I guess.

      • Corperryale

We’re in prime make-up call time as the refs try to cover up their bias.

  • GregGoBlue

How in the world is this a 1-possession game?

    • MLaw

      All heart.

  • Dustin Stone

    Great call Stripes. Bravo!

  • mstein23

    Missed travel too.

    • MLaw

I mean, they have so many things on their minds. How can they keep track of traveling too…/sarcasm.

  • jakelam2116

Well, Michigan getting some bad calls in its favor now

  • GregGoBlue

Spike got away with one there, but lol at Crean complaining about officiating

  • Dustin Stone

Crean doing his best acting mad impression, knowing full well who’s pocket the refs are snuggly in

  • MLaw

That would have been colossal if he made the shot too.

  • Corperryale

Clark, you’re wrong. And considering all the phantom calls that IU has benefitted from so far, why is he now making a big deal about a questionable push-off.

  • jemblue

So do you play defense here or foul?

    • MLaw

      Foul a bad shooter.

  • jakelam2116

Disagree with Clark. I would foul.

  • MLaw

    yikes. Zak won’t go quietly.

  • jakelam2116

    Big-time shot Irvin.

    • Steve Feller

I think this is the best I have seen him play this season – he is showing heart today, which is very encouraging

  • Dustin Stone

Did we seriously just give up another backdoor alley? That is all he knows how to do is dunk the ball!

    • mstein23

And then stare He’s pretty good at that too. Not much else…..

    • Wayman Britt

Don’t forget we had a player like that last year and that worked pretty good for us.

      • Dustin Stone

Haha well at least every once in awhile he would attempt a 3 or mid-range pull up….GIVE ME SOME VARIETY!

  • Wayman Britt

Both these teams cannot play defense

  • jemblue

Really odd 23-point game for Zak.

    • MAZS

if by odd you mean very good

      • jemblue

I mean odd in that he made a lot of tough, contested shots and then missed some bunnies and FTs. Overall a good game from him, though.

  • MLaw

So, go for 3 or quick 2?

  • Dustin Stone

Odds we go into another OT?

  • Steve Feller

    good look though

  • Wayman Britt

Well we had a good shot.

  • Corperryale

Zak shoulda shot that. MAAR in the corner was not the right shot. I think they were smart to move it away from an impending foul (and was happy that Donnal passed up the shot), but Zak should chucked that on a prayer.

    • MLaw

That was an excellent shot. Hard to say that was worse than a contested 3 from Zak.

      • Corperryale

For a Derrick or an Aubrey, definitely. I just don’t think the corner three is MAAR’s shot.

        • jemblue

It may not be ideal but in the final seconds and with no timeouts, you could do worse than an open 3 from him.

    • Wayman Britt

That was a pretty open 3

    • MAZS

beggar can’t be choosers–all in all a good look and better than Zak choosing not to force one

    • bobohle

Rahks hit that shot multiple times before. He was wide open. Just didn’t go in. Those missed layups did us in

  • MLaw

Great faces by Jon. You know it hurts to lose so many close ones.

  • Dustin Stone

That my folks is once again another gutsy performance by our boys. Too bad it was spoiled by middle school officials. What a joke

  • MGoTweeter

tough. got a great look. all those missed bunnies earlier in the half really hurt

  • mstein23

A good effort, but too many missed lay ups and too many easy buckets given up on D. Next year that’s a game we win.

  • bob

Irvin overall played great, Rahk overall played horrible, but WTF is Irvin’s problem on fast breaks? 3 times he had Rahk wide open on one of the wings and not once did he pass it to him.

    • Corperryale

One time he did pass but it was too late and the IU had time to set up.

      • bob

You are right that one time he did pass it to him, but it was really late negating any chance at a Rahk layup.

    • MAZS

passing is still a work in progress for Zak but he will get better

  • Dustin Stone

So hypothetical question here. What would this team look like with a healthy pair of Walton and LeVert? I understand that their absence has helped with developing the likes of Dawkins and Rahk, but how solid would this team be with those added perimeter threats? The depth on the wings would be insane! If LeVert brings his talents back to AA next year, along with another year of development for our baby Blues….This team is going to be right back there contending!

    • Corperryale

Maybe. With Walton this game would be a win. But somehow I think the growth and development of the “weird guys” (except, unfortunately, Chatman) has actually offset the heroic production of LeVert in most games. I think the maturation of three or four guys is worth more than the dominance of one All-American. (Of course I want LeVert to get healthy and come back if it’s right right thing for him.)

  • Alex

Got to hold their heads high even though they lost to a pretty good team. That was a great effort and proud of them for fighting. I hope they keep that intensity the rest of the season. Keep playing hard and this will pay off eventually.

  • Corperryale

Very strange game in that is was both a gutsy, bold way to bounce back after the unacceptable performance against Iowa but also sloppy and replete with missed opportunities. That said, this was a two point game despite outright criminal officiating. With zero ref bias this is (oddly) a 5 point Michigan win. Which makes no sense. Strange game.
