NW is much better against the zone than Minny was. Not throwing the ball away, knows what it wants to do.

  • Chezaroo

    WTF ZAK?

  • Steve Feller

In the bonus at the 9:33 mark. ATTACK!!!

  • Michigan in the bonus with 9:33 to play. If I’m Beilein, I’m just isolating Caris LeVert and hoping he can get it done.

    • Wayman Britt

I agree. Everybody else, except Walton, cannot shoot.

    • A2MIKE

Beilein wont do it, goes against his core philosophy

      • Wayman Britt

Don’t be so sure, remember Duke.

      • MGoTweeter

disagree with that. there have been many games beilein hasbasically just iso’d oneguy

  • Steve Feller

I kind of feel bad for Donnell – He knows this isn’t going well.

    • MGoTweeter

      made a good move there
just took too long to get to the rim

      • MAZS

and if he used his left hand, it would have helped (or dunked, of course)

        • MGoTweeter

          true. baby steps

  • jakelam2116

I keep having to remind myself no game for this team will likely ever come easy. Just get the win and move forward. Of course, not having Spike or Doyle makes it tougher, too.

  • ZoomieUofM

Zak Irvin is not 1 dimensional. He doesn’t quite have that 1 dimension nailed down yet. Next year with some offseason work he develop into a solid 1 dimensional player.

    • Steve2081

At this point I’d much rather have Dawkins/MAAR out there than Kam/Irvin.

    • Chezaroo

So you’re saying he’s not gonna declare early than?

      • ZoomieUofM

Heavily weighing his options currently. Those options include undeafted free agent in Europe or staying for Jr. season as 6th man(hopefully!) at UofM

  • Burke_Does_Work

No one on this team looks to throw it down except Ricky…that’s one thing I’ll miss about GRIII, he would dunk on anyone

  • Four fouls on Mark Donnal with 7:59 to play. Doyle on the bench (sick), so Michigan will have to ride with Max Bielfeldt.

    • Corperryale

Never heard of getting a mid-game cold, but I suppose there’s a first for everything.

      • Well, he played in the first half and got beaten up and down the floor…. Suspect he’s sitting now because the coaches realized that he couldn’t keep up.

    • Chezaroo

      Fine with me

      • A2MIKE

I have heard of getting your feelings hurt and then suddenly being sick

  • Corperryale

On the bright side, MAAR is making the most of his PT today and looks to be more confident.

    • Steve2081

Very happy with his play overall.

    • MGoTweeter

made some mistakes on D but like his activity and confidence

  • jakelam2116

    More of that, Caris!

  • Steve Feller

Live at the line the rest of this game and end it.
Max is giving some real nice minutes…saved a possession there

  • Cory

    Max says get that out!!!

  • Steve Feller

Whoever said the officiating was terrible was right…they had no clue on that play. Glad it went our way though.

    • MAZS

They had a clue. Olah lifted both feet–the travel preceded the foul.

  • Chris De Sana

The way the 5 plays in this offense size does not matter; a 6ft3 guy could walk back and forth at the top of the key setting picks. It is almost like playing 4 on 5 at the offensive side of the court.

    • I think the five is critical to this offense…. A big reason that Michigan has struggled offensively is that Morgan created space by his roll to the basket. He could make the right passes, reads, etc….

      • Burke_Does_Work

Also Nik Stauskas was an amazing PnR player…always seemed to make the right play

        • That’s a big part … As were Trey and Darius obviously, but Morgan was very good at making reads from that position. That’s a two person combo.

      • Chris De Sana

The PNR is all about angles and this team has not been able to create them.

        • MAZS

I do think Doyle has been getting marginally better at the PnR–it took McGary almost a season. Donnal is simply not willing to set a physical pick. Morgan was the master.

    • Wayman Britt

That’s because our 5 cannot shot. If you have a 5 who can shoot a three it would be deadly.

      • Or that… Either way, the five position needs to create space.

  • jakelam2116

All right, Zak! A bucket! Just get the dub.

  • MGoTweeter

well if zak was only gonna make one, he picked a pretty good one….

  • Steve2081

WELCOME TO THE PARTY PAL! – John McClain to Zak Irvin

    • Steve Feller

Ha ha nice. I will give him credit…he won’t shy away from a shot like that.

  • Cory

Had to step out for a bit and missed part of the game……Where’s Doyle?

    • Wayman Britt

      Sick

      • Cory

        Thanks guys.

    • Burke_Does_Work

Sick…not enough stamina to run the court

  • ZoomieUofM

So glad JR “Nick Young” Smith nailed that. Big shot. Let’s go blue!

Chris is an overachhiever. We can’t forget that. Our STAR player was an Ohio U commit. No other offers.

    • Cory

Developed by our staff though. That’s why I’m reserving judgement on any of these freshmen right now. The leaps that a lot of these guys have made give me hope that this class is going to be a solid foundation for the next three or 4 seasons.

      • ZoomieUofM

Agree. I’m confident on plenty of the freshman. I think our coaching staff is world class. I think Zak is not a good basketball player – and won’t be. That’s all. This team is not highly talented, which was my point of Caris being an overachiever, who has been coached well, as or star.

        • MAZS

I think you will be proven very wrong on Zak. We’ll check back in next year.

    • MGoTweeter

a star player that barely showed anything as a freshman. dont write the book on these guys

  • Good timeout by Beilein there… Need to set something up here to try to stretch the lead and that last offensive possession was a mess.

These are some crunch time minutes for MAAR — probably the most important minutes he’s played all year.

  • Michigan goes 0 for 3 on one possession then gives up a three on the other end. Huge swing.

  • Alex

Bielfeldt’s made a lot of plays.

I tip my proverbial cap to you. Keep fighting guys you can do this just play tough. Let’s go team.

  • jakelam2116

    Rahk!

  • Steve Feller

    MAAR!!!!

  • MGoTweeter

    rahk!

  • MAZS

    caught us napping–nice pass

  • jakelam2116

How in the world do you let them make that pass on a rope? Goodness.

  • Bryant McIntosh can really play — only 4 points today, but 8 dimes. Kid is going to be really good.

    • Wayman Britt

      Yep but we have Donnal

    • Well, I jinxed the poor kid.

    • MGoTweeter

agree. kid is really mature and canmake plays

  • jakelam2116

I don’t know. If I were NW with the way UM shoots 1-and-1s… I’d foul.

  • jakelam2116

    Oh. My. Goodness.

  • MAZS

    4-2. No problem. :)

  • Wow. Bryant McIntosh misses an open layup at the buzzer and Michigan wins 56-54. Ugly, but a win is a win.

    • Steve2081

      You jinxed him. Well done.

  • Cory

Wow. Northwestern blew that last possession. Oh well! GO BLUE!

  • MGoTweeter

    yowsers.. talk about surviving by…

  • Steve Feller

Got the W! that is all the matters now

  • Indiana_Matt

    And there’s the W.

  • Burke_Does_Work

    I’ll take it…but wow

  • Wayman Britt

Good to get a win, but just like Minny, NW kid of blew that

  • ZoomieUofM

Great win. Coaching staff switching up D and moving MAAR to point of 1-3-1 was critical – W

    • zeroskie

      he’s so fast

  • Justin

    Levert got hurt uh-oh

    • Old Man

Seems to be limping a bit

  • LeVert definitely limping a little bit off the floor there…

    • Burke_Does_Work

He collided with a NW player at the end of the game when the ball was being tipped around.

  • MGoTweeter

nice W with two strters out.. i was shocked at rahk getting the start but he showed some things today. ive also been very anti 1-3-1 as a long stretch solution but im starting to think they are not going to improve enough in man thisyear, might as well be weird play 1-3-1 full game, hope teams miss threes and force some turnovers

  • Justin

16-14 is the best I see this team doing this year…Hope for a big increase in victories and maybe some good recruits in ’15 and ’16 coming soon to the old Crisler Center.

  • Dustin Stone

A win is a win..but are we ever going to hop off the struggle bus? Fingers crossed that eventually everything just clicks and the team hits its stride/shots.

  • Tyler Carter

Anyone still tuned in to BTN for the Big Ten Elite feature on 2013 Michigan basketball? Loving it so far.

    • jakelam2116

      Absolutely. Wouldn’t miss it.

      • A2MIKE

BTN basketball shows are so goo

    • Steve2081

Nope. I don’t care for those kinds of shows.

    • It’s pretty solid.

    • jakelam2116

This is pretty darn well done. Hitting on all the key points of that season. Pizza House meeting!
