Michigan among top ten schools for Derryck Thornton Jr.

Dylan Burkhardt

Class of 2016 point guard Derryck Thornton Jr. cut his list to ten schools this afternoon.

Michigan made the cut along with Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Arizona, California, USC, Miami, UNLV and NC State. The news was first reported by Scout.com’s Josh Gershon.

“I love the staff (at Michigan) – it’s a great staff,” Thornton told Scout.com. “And all the coaches there are super supportive. I love the style of play and coaching staff.”

The 6-foot-2 point guard is the No. 7 prospect in the country according to 247Sports Composite rankings and previously visited Michigan in June for the Wolverines’ College Practice Camp. Michigan, Kentucky, Duke and Arizona all have multiple predictions in 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball.

The Wolverines currently have one commitment in the class of 2016, but Thornton holds one of eight scholarships outstanding in the class.

I know UM has 7 other offers out to some highly rated, tremondous recruits, but in my opinion Thornton is the most important. I would put him as the # 1 target. He would be the kingpin of the class of 2016.

I’m sorry but this just does not constitute news. Should we celebrate that we are in Thorton’s top ten? I just don’t see this as newsworthy

      • Is it surprising? No. Is it news that he announced a top ten? Yes.

It’s a short article that shares an important bit of info that I wouldn’t have gotten unless I bothered to track it down. I’m invested in Thorton’s recruitment and invested in the future of this basketball team, so it’s relevant. How is this not news?

I see y we dont have a single HIGH SCHOOL recruit for 2015, to busy worring about 2016. Hello we are sitting on ZERO. P.J Dozier should be our number one priority right now, i doubt Caleb Swanigan is coming (Spartans). We swung n missed 7 times we only have 2 swings lef. So being n his TOP 10 isn’t news bcus we could swing and miss the 8 times in 2016. Js CHANGE RECRUITING STRATEGY start offering sooner then later. There is no way we should have none with the success we had period. Football schools like Texas A&M & Florida St should never beat us n recruiting.
