Michigan’s 2014-15 schedule was finalized today as the Big Ten formally announced the conference schedule.

The Wolverines will open Big Ten play on December 30th at home against Illinois. Michigan will host back-to-back marquee home games in February when Michigan State and Ohio State travel to Crisler Center on February 17th and 22nd respectively.

Due to the Big Ten’s expansion to 14 teams, Michigan will only play five teams – Illinois, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State and Rutgers – twice during conference play. The Wolverines will have home single plays against Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin and road single plays against Indiana, Maryland, Penn State and Purdue.

Michigan’s non-conference schedule is highlighted by the Legends Classic in Brooklyn (games against Oregon and either VCU or Villanova), a road game at Arizona and home contests against Syracuse and SMU. Find Michigan’s full schedule after the jump.

That is a pretty nice conference schedule. Single play road games with two of the worst teams in the league (and IU and Maryland, who are probably middle of the pack types), but single plays against Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska and Minny all in Ann Arbor. And I always like two against MSU and OSU even though that makes a tougher schedule, because who doesn’t like the rivalries?

The first thing that sticks out to me is the stretch of Wisc, Nebraska, @Mich St, Iowa and then @ Indiana. It’ll be interesting to see how this young team holds up to a run like that.

A great chance to start 4-0 in conference too before heading to Ohio State.

So getting a top 4 seed is huge. Hope this team will be able to do that.

  • Feels like the schedule is pretty balanced w/r/t to timing… Not many super tough short rest periods. February is a monster though.. tough stretch there.

Difficult, yes. But I don’t think it compares to some of the stretches of death the team had last season.

I am thinking 12-6 or 11-7 in conference. Thoughts? Too optimistic or too pessimistic?

Seems too pessimistic to me. We have some absolute studs returning who are ready to step up. I think we are a definite top 4 team, along with Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Ohio State. After that, there is a drop off and a bunch of 9-9 type teams.
