Michigan picked up another comfortable win over the Vicenza All-Stars on Tuesday and Michigan released a box score with everything but steals, turnovers and blocks. Since the game wasn’t streamed, here are some statistical observations and notes from the box score including our traditional Four Three Factors graph.

Michigan still managed a 58.8 eFG%, but the Wolverines were just 6-of-21 from three-point range. Zak Irvin was 4-of-5 which means his teammates were just 2-of-16 (12.5%) from distance. Despite struggling outside the arc, Michigan was impressive inside the arc, converting 66% of its two-point field goals. Michigan got to the free throw line at a fairly high clip, but was just 13-of-24 (54%) from the charity stripe. Derrick Walton (0-3), Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman (7-11) and Ricky Doyle (3-6) all missed at least three free throws.
Michigan’s rotation was fairly balance as nine Wolverines played between 18 and 25 minutes. Part of that may have been due to excessive foul trouble as eight different Wolverines were whistled for at least three fouls.
Michigan’s defensive numbers are impressive across the board – although turnover statistics are absent – as the Wolverines controlled the defensive glass and held Vicenza to just 37% shooting inside the arc and 21% outside the arc.

Player Box Score Observations:
- Zak Irvin: Irvin has been lights out on the Italian tour thus far. He went 5-of-5 from long range on Sunday and started 4-of-4 on Tuesday. He’s now 9-of-10 from deep in Italy despite playing with the FIBA line. Everyone wants to discuss how Irvin is going to be more than a shooter this year, but at the very least Irvin is set to be a really good shooter. Irvin’s eFG% in game two was a ridiculous 113%.
- Ricky Doyle: Doyle had a great offensive game on Sunday, but the goose-egg in the rebounds column raised some eyebrows. Not so in game number two. Doyle posted a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds like he was back at Bishop Verot. He was active on both backboards and appears to have dominated the game and could be inching toward a starting spot.
- Kameron Chatman: Chatman led Michigan in shot attempts with 15 and posted a 60 eFG%. He knocked down a triple, handed out two assists, grabbed six rebounds and appears to have put together another very impressive all-around game. Chatman is Michigan’s highest rated incoming freshman and he’s done nothing to lower expectations early on.
- Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman: It’s still early and there will presumably be some rough patches to work out, but Muhammad Ali provides two things that Michigan lacks across the roster: the ability to defend guards and get to the free throw line at a high level. In two games, ‘MAAR’ has attempted 19 free throws while his teammates have only attempted 25 combined.
- Caris LeVert: LeVert continues to round into form and posted 14 points with a 55% effective field goal percentage with five defensive rebounds. Wing rebounding has been a theme for Michigan and if LeVert can grab rebounds at a high-level, he’ll be dominant starting the break this season.
- Derrick Walton: We’ve spent a lot of time discussing the potential for Walton to breakout at the point guard spot this season and his stat lines overseas have been very conservative. Point guards shouldn’t need to score the ball in 40 point wins, so the fact that Walton only attempted four field goals despite playing with a 24 second clock means the Wolverines are moving the ball very well.
- Spike Albrecht: Albrecht had a similar stat line to Walton: two points and three assists. That’s a stat line we expect to see more often from Albrecht than Walton, but it appears that he also was content to facilitate the offense.
- Mark Donnal: Donnal looks like he was effective inside (3-of-4 on 2PA), but he missed both three-point attempts when he stepped outside. He was solid on the glass, finishing with 6 points and five rebounds.
- Aubrey Dawkins: Dawkins’ highlight of the game appears to have been a spinning layup assisted by Abdur-Rahkman. He totaled 6 points on 3-of-5 shooting while missing his only long range attempt.
