Report: Michigan, SMU to begin home-and-home series

Dylan Burkhardt

According to a report by CBS Sportssmu-logo[1], Michigan will host SMU this season at the Crisler Center.

Michigan and SMU will face off on December 20th, 2014 and a return date will be scheduled in Dallas in 2015, according to Jon Rothstein’s report.

SMU went 27-10 last season, just missing the NCAA tournament and losing to Minnesota in the NIT. The Mustangs are projected as a top-15 team next season.

SMU returns its top two scorers from a year ago, Markus Kennedy and Nic Moore, but Larry Brown also signed 6-foot-5 guard Emmanuel Mudiay. Mudiay is the 247Sports Composite No. 2 player in the incoming class and is projected as a top five NBA Draft pick in 2015.

The Wolverines are also scheduled to travel to Arizona, host Syracuse in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge and travel to Brooklyn for the Legends Classic, which will include two games against VCU, Villanova or Oregon. Find a full run down of future scheduled dates here

I like it. SMU is really on the rise and should be very good next season. They just renovated their arena before last season too and I heard it’s very nice. Quality addition to the schedule for the next two years.

Beilein is such a smart scheduler for non-conference games (or whoever’s doing Michigan’s scheduling). I also can’t to see Larry Brown at Crisler — what a legend.

I like it as long as we win.

Playing Syracuse, SMU, Arizona, and two of VCU, Villanova, and Oregon is a great non-con schedule. It will be very challenging, given the turnover the team is facing. But, a schedule like this is also a mark of a top level program, and that’s definitely what Michigan has become.
