Bo Ryan is one hell of a coach. I have nothing but respect for him. And his honesty can be disarming at times.

Interesting… Bo gave a tell on his defensive strategy which is very similar to that of Thad Matta. They lost to Indiana because Indiana spread them across the floor and they didn’t execute the pack line defense correctly by clogging the lane. Against Michigan they were much better drilled and prepared, but Bo wants teams to take tough 2’s coming off that screen at 14-18 feet. The idea is to soft hedge the three point attempt and have the man being screened either recover and prevent the dribble drive or switch and force the offense to think they have an open 2 but then use their length to challenge those shots. I think that strategy has served Bo well over his tenure, however Stauskas type players are becoming more the norm and that is going to really challenge Bo in the future. And for as well as Stauskas played he was still 7-17 from the floor and had an eFG% of 50% before his last 6 FT’s which were his only FT’s of the game. The fact that Nik didn’t have a FT until under a minute remaining in the game is a testament to Bo’s philosophy. Michigan just beat a really good team for which I and I am sure our team has a lot of respect. Love these opposing coach pressers.

Yeah I agree, posting these opposing coach press conferences is awesome. If they aren’t on this site, I usually seek them out too.

      • We try to do them as often as we can, depending on media setup. Especially now that we are into Big Ten play.
