Video: John Beilein, Nik Stauskas and Jordan Morgan ready for season opener

John Beilein, Nik Stauskas and Jordan Morgan met with the media this afternoon to preview Friday’s season opener against UMass Lowell. Beilein discussed his big men, Mitch McGary’s health and a possible redshirt for Mark Donnal. Stauskas admitted he “might have jinxed himself” by declaring that he was the best shooter in the country last year while Morgan is ready to get his final season under way. Watch the interviews in the embedded media players below.

Calling it. Beilein is keeping the lineup a “secret” because Caris will start at the point. He said he wants to get all the PGs reps early, and he hasn’t gotten around to starting Caris yet. I can see him grinning from ear to ear in his office thinking, “Man, I can’t wait to see Caris start at the point tomorrow!”

Seriously though, I would be OK with that, I’m glad coach is so pumped about Caris, because I am as well.

Edit: Also, “The 66 lineup” is what we’re calling it eh? I guess I can live with that.

Haha i think Caris starts but not at the point. I think Glenn is at the 4

I doubt Caris will start, but I think Glenn will play PF as well.

I also don’t agree with people who say that it matters where Glenn plays. He’ll get the ball as much on offense and in the same manner no matter who he’s guarding defensively. And, who each player guards is the only distinction position-wise for Beilein, outside of the center position.

I’m assuming you think it more likely that Irvin start along-side Glenn at the 3/4 spots, rather than Stauskas sliding to the 3 and LeVert at 2? Either are pretty good options. The “66” lineup would be tough…the other team would need 4 pretty elite defenders to slow it down, IMO.

I was only responding to the thought that Caris would start at point guard. Obviously, he’s a starter, but I meant to say: he won’t be the starting point guard.

        • Kam

If you think irvin will start over caris that is silly imo. So far Caris has looked better. Just because irvin is a highly rated freshman doesn’t mean he will start

        • Kam

also caris has played far more minutes than Irvin has in the preseason

I for one would love to see a line-up of LeVert, Stauskas, Irvin, GR3, McGary at some point this year.

Stauskas has so much swagger…just to bring up his comment about him being the best shooter in the country. Still looking forward to his competition with Curry.
