Lets hope for more Derrick clapping tonight. Go Blue!

  • Ben Sheler

Can this game be watched online without BTN2GO?

  • Derrick Walton will start tonight.

    • gobluemd16

Says a lot to his development and how much the coaches trust him

  • gobluemd16

I don’t know if I’ve seen it posted on here, but Melvin Ejim of Iowa State is out 4-6 weeks and will miss the game against us. Never want to see a guy hurt, but he is probably their best returning player. Gives us a better shot, especially if Mitch can’t go.

  • Welp, three or four offensive possessions worse than just about anything we saw against Concordia. Good to play against a slightly better defensive team.

  • Kam

Half court offense with 2 bigs is bad

  • Michigan offense with Jordan Morgan at the four: work in progress.

    • To be fair: the real “two big” question is how this looks with McGary at the four.

      • DingoBlue

Very true, we will be seeing McGary, GRIII, and Irvin at the 4 most of the time I think.

  • Champswest

Morgan has passed up 2 open shots. He needs to take those if he is going to play the 4.

  • MGoTweeter

If this team is going to try and run the two big lineup with horford and Morgan, I’d really like to see them go to more of the high/low set we have seen a few times in the past. Morgan as a wing four man in the traditional beilein offense really only provides ball rotation.

  • Champswest

Two freshmen on the floor at the 15 minute mark,

  • Just one forced turnover and nothing much in transition but a good opportunity to practice the halfcourt offense.

  • Champswest

Irvin looks a little more relaxed and confident today. His third 3.

  • DingoBlue

Irvin looks to be looking for his, but he seems to be focused on an outside game for the time being. Would like to see him try dribbling into the lane a bit more. Still good to see him calmer.

    • Yeah… Safe to say opponents will learn that they can’t just leave him open on the drive and kick.

  • DingoBlue

I’ll also say this, the student sportscasters are miles better than last year. Although I may be remembering it worse than it was.

    • Love that they get the opportunity to call a game live on BTN. Cool reward, they’ve done a good job.

  • Champswest

I think Horford is the key this year. If he can give us scoring as well as defense at the 5, allowing Mitch to play the 4, we can be really good.

    • rz

key? helpful maybe but getting good PG play to replace Burke and having McGary at full strength seems more key to me

      • Northern Blue

Couldnt agree more. And I think our team defence has potential as well, as a third key and if so we continue our great transition attack. GR3 and Mitch can create turnovers. Looking for Irvin, Levert and Walton to show something in that department as well. Could have a huge advantage in turnover battle consistently.

        • Champswest

Key in the sense that if Horford and Morgan can be productive at the 5, it frees Mitch to play the 4 and Robinson the 3. If they can’t, then we don’t have a big lineup to compete with teams that do.

  • Champswest

Wayne State is getting and making a lot of open shots.

  • Cory

We look so good with GRIII at the 4…….

  • DingoBlue

Like the P&R with Levert to Horford.

  • DingoBlue

Wow Horford, hard foul. Continuing the team high fouls/40 mins.

Live tempo-based stats for the game here… http://www.scacchoops.com/ViewHDGame.asp?hSchedule=20256

  • DingoBlue

extremely balanced scoring after one half. Little-no transition O, lots of half-court sets. Probably good to get to work on that more.

  • Michigan leads 46-30 at the break.

Michigan 1.48 PPP, WSU .97 PPP.
    Michigan: 80% eFG%, 20% OR Rate, 16.1% TO Rate, 48% FTA/FGA
    Wayne State: 50% eFG%, 27% OR Rate, 19% TO Rate, 15% FTA/FGA

    • Michigan has so many shooters that it doesn’t really feel like the shooting has been ridiculous but those numbers are just crazy. 7-of-11 from long range. If LeVert’s three-point stroke is as consistent as it looks, Michigan’s offense will get by just fine.

A bit worried about the defense though. Maybe Coleman is just having an out of body experience but letting a kid from Wayne State go for 17 (on 7-of-13 shooting) in the first half is worrisome.

      • mistersuits

A couple of Coleman’s threes he had a hand right in his face. But a couple of times he got open easy because of a defensive breakdown.

        • No doubt. Made some difficult shots but had a few too many open ones.

      • Kam

yeah i saw 3 of his 3s with hands in face… nothing u can do!! They did get open shots tho

  • Champswest

M looks like they are playing defense at 80% speed. Would like to see them pick it up a bit.

  • Cool shot from Dustin of Walton’s pick pocket:

  • Kam

    HE WAS OPEN why?

  • Wayman Britt

I see Horford still has brick hands.

    • Champswest

Yeah, that could be his downfall as a starter.

  • mistersuits

Bad sequence right there. The Horford/Morgan line-ups are really underwhelming.

    • Champswest

You are speaking of offense only, I presume.

  • Kam

walton and Jon lineups just are awful

  • Wayman Britt

    Really like Nik’s improvement

  • Kam

    Nice take caris

  • Wayman Britt

I don’t want to find too much fault, but I do not see any improvement from Horford. Let’s hope Mitch’s back injury is not serious.

  • Kam

Well that coleman hasn’t really done much

  • pgrom

overall, I’m not that impressed tonight. Bigs are just meh.

  • Kam

They need mitch.. with him they will be very good.. But morgan and Jon are just average at offense at least

  • Kam

MAX CANT GET PT.. he cant rebound or play defense

  • Kam

Donnal may have to burn that redshirt.. He is more talented on offense than Morgan and max easily.. Jon too.. and he cant be worse than 6’7 Mac on defense and I’m sure he can rebound better.

  • Lgrin

Horford is godawful bad. No hands…

    • Wayman Britt

He has not shown any improvement in his hands since he arrived.

  • Welcome to college dunk attempt there for Zak Irvin.

    • mistersuits

Trey Burke thinks that was a foul.

  • Lgrin

Really like the way Irvin shoots the ball.

  • Kam

the rebounding is awful… the other teams tallest guy is 6’8 too

  • Lgrin

    Sloppy…

  • Champswest

Nik looking faster and more athletic.

    • Kam

thats what happens when you get older haha

  • DingoBlue

    My quick takeaways:

    1. Irvin really looks like Tim Hardaway Jr. 2.0
    2. Walton should really look at that botched lob to GRIII on transition before the next game, leaving points on the floor.
    3. Not terribly impressed with Max or Horford as is.
    4. Caris continues to show an improved all around game. Saw him make a few plays I don’t think he would have tried because his body is slightly more developed.
    5. GRIII continues to quietly get points, I wish he would be more assertive, especially without Mitch on the floor.

    • DingoBlue

Also let me add: Still very worried about rebounding without Mitch in the lineup.

  • Wayman Britt

With the development of Caris, Nik and Zak we have many wings and perimeter players, I wonder if we might find GR3 playing more 4. It’s early but he seems a little hesitant. But way too early yet.

    • Adam St Patrick

Beilein has been a “best 5 players on the floor” kind of coach in the past. I’d expect this too when/if McGary isn’t available.

  • river

gotta wonder how the dynamic changes once Mitch returns. UM’s ball movement and rebounding is gonna change quite a bit when he is in there

  • Joel_C

Pretty underwhelming win this time, Wayne St played pretty well, Coleman especially. Need McGary back by the Iowa St game.

    • Kam

He wont likely be back by that game.. hasn’t even started practicing
