Devin Booker to announce college decision on Thursday

Dylan Burkhardt

Class of 2014 shooting guard Devin Booker will announce his college decision on Thursday afternoon. Booker will announce at a press conference at his high school at 4 p.m. (eastern)

Booker will choose between Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State and Missouri. He took official visits to all four schools and took an additional unofficial visit to Missouri last weekend.

Michigan target James Blackmon Jr. is also set to announce his college decision on Thursday night on ESPNU. Booker and Blackmon are the only class of 2014 prospects on Michigan’s board with outstanding scholarship offers.

Thursday is going to be a huge day. I hope we can grab one of these two players. I’m hoping for Blackmon, but that may be mostly because I’m from Indiana.

Cal loves having his players announce on ESPN. Not a good sign.

      McGary announced on ESPN

      • guestavo

Notice I said it was customary for Cal and never said JB hasn’t had recruits that have used ESPN. It’s a more likely signifier of UK if a kid has a Cal offer because it’s 100 percent protocol.

        • Mith

It is? Every UK kid signs on ESPN? I didn’t know that.

          • guestavo

Pretty much. Definitely higher than most schools.

  • Booker is not announcing on ESPN. Just at his school.

    • guestavo

Ahhh a glimmer of hope, then. I guess the fact he waited until Blackmon set his date may mean something in our favor but who knows if/when they told each other their decision and to Cal/JB/Izzo/Crean/Haith

  • Mark Worthley

It seems like they have coordinated their announcements, so why do that?

  • guestavo

Jerry Meyer seems pretty sure of himself.

Let the conspiracy theories percolate! “Hope is a good thing Red, maybe the best of things.” Best of luck to both Devin and James. Two quality kids, who will represent their schools well.

I hope one of these two guys pick Michigan, but if they choose elsewhere I hope we can keep it classy, unlike other fan bases like The Big Blue Nation when Wiggins chose Kansas. After all, it’s their decision and their lives. Crossing my fingers….hoping for good news on Thursday. If we don’t get either, we are still in a great position for our 2015 targets and also Bolden in a few months.

      Well said. Very well said.

I’m a UK fan and completely agree that we had some bad apples bashing Wiggins for his decision. Kansas fans bashed Terrance Jones when he chose Kentucky over them too. Trust me when I say that our real fans aren’t like that. Good luck beating osu in football!

      • ajerome33

Unfortunately there seem to be some bad fans mixed in with every fan base, Michigan included. The Wiggins example is fresh in my mind mostly because it was such a national story I suppose. I just wish these recruits could still be kids and just be excited about their decisions without having to listen to sour grapes bashing. But with the overwhelming popularity of recruiting coverage and social media now, those days are long gone.

Hoping for the best, expecting the worst!
    Go Blue!!

Booker’s Twitter bio says, “Mississppi — ✈— Michigan” right now (3am EST, Oct. 30). Am I missing something or is he positively coming to Michigan?

    • Chezaroo

IMO we have little chance to get Booker now. Our hope is that Blackmon might cast his eye toward us. Either way, we will survive and prosper!

    • gobluewiz

That has been his twitter status for months and months

      • Yep. He’s from Michigan, lives in Mississippi. Spends time in Michigan, Mississippi or in an airplane. Nothing to do with his college choice.

        • ProjectPat

Bummer. Never checked his twitter until yesterday. Knew he’s from Grandville, but I figured if it was a reference to his hometown it’d say “Michigan — ✈— Mississippi” whereas “Mississppi — ✈— Michigan” meant he’s leaving Mississippi to attend Michigan.

          Wishful thinking had me gassed…

  • Bigrange

What’s the chance that these two have communicated with each other and have an idea of where the other is headed? I just don’t want to see Blackmon go back to IU. If they both want to go to Kentucky, fine, have fun competing for playing time and trying to make a name for yourself.

Looney is also announcing on Thursday. I believe we are out of the running on him, but it just adds to the significance of the day for college b-ball.
