USA Today names Mitch McGary Preseason All-American, ranks Michigan 8th

Michigan 71, South Dakota State 56 - 4Mitch McGary has been selected to another Preseason All-American Team, this time by USA Today.

University of Michigan men’s basketball sophomore forward Mitch McGary (Chesterton, Ind./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) was named to the preseason All-America first team in USA Today Sports’ 2013-14 College Basketball Preview Magazine. Fellow sophomore Glenn Robinson III(St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) joined McGary as an honorable mention selection.

McGary was joined on the All-America first team by Creighton senior Doug McDermott, Oklahoma State sophomore Marcy Smart, Kentucky freshman Julius Randle and Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins.

USA Today College Sports also predicted a third-place conference finish for the Wolverines, while Robinson was selected to the preseason All-Big Ten first team and McGary came in with second team honors. The Maize and Blue was also given an A- for its incoming recruiting class, listing freshman Zak Irvin(Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern HS) as U-M’s top newcomer to watch.

The magazine had the Wolverines ranked No. 8, following top-ranked Kentucky, No. 2 Michigan State, No. 3 Louisville, No. 4 Duke, No. 5 Kansas, No. 6 Florida and No. 7 Arizona. Rounding out the top 10 is No. 9 Syracuse and No. 10 North Carolina.

The Wolverines were also slotted as a top ten team by Lindy’s, Athlon and Blue Ribbon. The Sporting News also picked McGary as a Preseason All-American.
