Austin Hatch moving to Los Angeles

Dylan Burkhardt

Austin Hatch is moving to Los Angeles for his final year of high school, according to the LA Times:

The 6-foot-6 forward is moving from Fort Wayne, Ind., to Pasadena to live with a family member and attend Loyola. Classes begin Aug. 26.

The family confirmed the move in a statement on Monday, saying, “Austin continues to make steady improvement as he prepares for his final year of high school education.”

Hatch suffered a severe head injury in a plane crash on June 24, 2011, that killed his father, stepmother and a family dog near Charlevoix, Mich.

He committed to Michigan when he was a sophomore at Canterbury School. He missed all of last season working on his recovery and has been reclassified as a member of the 2014 class.

If he is physically able to play at Loyola, he’ll need eligibility approval from the CIF Southern Section.

Hatch also posted a statement on Twitter about the move.

Is he going to LA to prepare for Michigan education wise or basketball wise? Or, does he just need a fresh start?

I am glad that he still intends to go to Michigan.

Good to hear he is planning (aiming) for Ann Arbor. Wishing him all the luck in the world and looking forward his appearance in maize and blue.
