Derrick Walton Summer Workout

A lot of similar drills to the ones in Trey Burke’s early workout videos. Gotta love that influence!

If three point shooting was a concern about his game a year ago, it certainly doesn’t appear to be right now. Really impressed with the work this young man is putting in.

After watching many of his highlights and these workout tapes my only thought is: can he effectively finish through contact? Still have yet to see a lot of that in his highlights.

    • One thing I noticed is he’s still shooting threes at the HS line. Thought it was interesting to hear Beilein at camp talk about practicing threes at the next level to stretch your range. Something Derrick will have to work on.

That is a valid question, but just looking at this latest video, he appears to me to be physically stronger than when I’ve seen him before. My guess is after he gets his feet wet a bit, he will be fine and finishing through contact won’t be a big issue. As with all Frosh, my biggest concern is defending.

I know Trey was one of the best to ever play for the Wolverines, and will be missed, but I have a ton of confidence in Walton and Spike running the point for us. We are in good hands moving forward.

Maybe it is the style of workouts, but I noticed that the way Walton dribbles is by looking straight ahead and low. Trey was difficult to telegraph as his vision field was higher, often checking his left and right. That is the sign of a great passer knowing where his teammates and opponents are positioned.

Wow love his work ethic. Can’t wait to watch him develop.
