According to Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports, Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary are headed back to Ann Arbor for their sophomore seasons. The duo have a press conference scheduled for 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.

McGary tweeted at 2:38 p.m. in response to the reports, “This is my decision, until I say it, nothing’s true!”

Robinson averaged 11 points and five rebounds as a freshman. McGary averaged eight points and six rebounds per game but had a breakout NCAA tournament performance.

Both players were projected as top-15 picks by ESPN’s Chad Ford but should be the focal point of Michigan’s 2013-14 squad after Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. opted to enter the NBA Draft.

Please be right this time Jeff!

So Michigan had the best backcourt in the nation last year. Do they have the best front court in the nation this year?

    • sideofbacon

McGary/Donnal. be pretty difficult to compete with.
and a backcourt of Stauskas, GRIII, Irvin, Albreicht, Walton. I am looking forward to this 2013-14 team.

      • John Billington

Don’t forget about Morgan and Horford in the post

      • BlueRev

Won’t be surprised if Donnal is redshirted–thinking best frontcourt reference refers to McGary, GR3 with Morgan, Horford, Bielfeldt off the bench , although Donnal could be a piece of the puzzle if GR3 slides to wing forward.

GREAT news! This just made my off season. We will be prime contenders for Dallas in 2014!

    • Rob Catron

      No way!

      • BlueRev

        why no way?

  • Mattski

I grumbled when I saw the leaked news that Hardaway was leaving yesterday, but I am all smiles about this one. Wonder why!?!?!?!

    • Mattski

Stay or go, Mr. Payne; we don’t really care.

  • Great news!

Do me a favor and ask Mitch how close he was to going pro…I’m pretty sure my theory that McGary was 100% stay all the way was not right, but I’d still like to know for sure.

Gentlemen. Michigan lost 2 scholarship players in Burke and Hardaway, and 2 more from the graduation of McLimans, and Vogrich. With Walton, Irvin and Donnal coming, we will have at least one more scholarship available.

Are we looking at any additional players for next season? I remember back in 1995, Michigan had Willie Mitchel, Maceo Baston, Mo Taylor and Travis Conlan coming before April, but in May 1st they got a surprise commitment from the #1 HS player Jerrod Ward, for the second fab five. Is there a chance to land anybody yet?

    • arsenal926

Definitely plenty of options to chose from. Michigan could see if Mcliamans wants to return for his 5th year. Try to find a graduate transfer for 1 year. Try to recruit a transfer (mickleson from Arkansas is a 6-10 big man who can shoot would be a perfect back up for Horford in 2014). Give it to a walk on for one year. Or just save it for a 2014 recruit. There are probably more options but thats all I can think of.

      • ColinNer

I pass on all Kent Dorfman look-alikes (including Hunter Mickelson)

Andrew Wiggins has been delaying his decision for this exact scenario. Just fooling around, and it won’t happen, but it would be a great fit for him if it did.

Good news if true with these two returning. I’d love to see them have as dominant sophomore years as Burke did, and go on to a great pro career. This is a good decision for them I think. With Mitch, you knew he was going to break out sooner than later, just needed some seasoning and adjusting to the new level of play. With GR3 I expect to see an expanded skill set, a guy more involved in the offence. Think he becomes a great dribble drive player next year. Of course this is all premature, as it is just a report, but for me I have a good feeling it’s a correct report… they both seem to love playing for and being at the University of Michigan. College is a great experience, enjoy it fellas, and best of luck to these two on whatever their decision is.

I thought I asked this already but it is being reported on other sites that a big named recruit class of 2013 has scheduled a visit. Any ideas?

      • Andrew Dakich, Dan’s son, is visiting. Likely as a preferred walk-on (he has similar preferred walk-on offers from Butler, Purdue).

        • CDeSana

I saw that one but I would not call him a big named recruit; hopefully there is more to the story.

          • I wouldn’t either. Where are you seeing a “big name 2013 visitor”?

Michigan has lost two underclassmen from its 2012-13 team to the NBA draft. Head coach John Beilein and his staff continue to recruit to replace them and will host a 2013 prospect soon, a highly ranked 2015 recruit this summer.

Sorry my mistake highly ranked in 2015.

Antonio Barton is a sharp shooting combo guard that graduated from Memphis and will look to play his 5th year elsewhere. That would be an awesome land. Trey Ziegler is also transferring out of Pittsburgh and could be a nice bench player for us, too.

      • CDeSana

Unless he is a cancer; 3rd school in how many years?

  • Matzio

Is it possible we have an even more balanced team next year? GRIII is going to have a POY-candidate season in my estimation, and so could McGary. Once our offense runs more around GRIII, good things are going to happen. VERY EXCITING news if it’s true. In my opinion they need one more year. And I think they might agree with this — look at what a sophomore year did for Trey Burke.

    • Mattski

You never know how the team gels, but I’m convinced that with the scoring pressure off of the point guard Beilein’s celebrated “flow” can become much flowier (sic :) But it’s worth noting that when the team was on this year the scoring was VERY balanced already. We had many nights with four guys in double figures, many more with three and someone else close. . . McGary is such a unique player that I am convinced the offense is going to be extremely dynamic, no matter what.

Look forward to seeing what lineups people expect Beilein to put on the floor. With two quick bigs to complement McGary in Horford and Morgan, I see good things. . .

    • Dr_ZC

If Walton comes with the mentality pass first, score second, the sky will be the limit. Does anybody know if Irvin can create his own shot and if he can dribble penetrate?

      • hailtoyourvictor

Reports say that Irvin played some minutes at the point for his AAU team. That has to be a good sign that he can create separation off the dribble.

  • CDeSana

Anyone familiar with this kid? Demetrius Harris

He is ranked a couple of spots higher than Donnal and seems to be more of an inside game than Donnal. 4 Star Recruit.

  • JOHNNAVARREISMYHERO

Excited for Mitch and GR3 to be back.

Also, thank you Mitch for saying what i been thinking throughout these decisions – in reference to the quote, “This is my decision, until I say it, nothing’s true!

” Ridiculous that everyone always has to jump the gun, let the men announce it themselves, its their moment!
