Keita Bates-Diop to Ohio State

Dylan Burkhardt

One of Michigan’s top class of 2014 recruiting targets is off the board as Keita Bates-Diop committed to Ohio State this afternoon.

Bates-Diop had offers from Michigan, Purdue, Illinois, Michigan State and several other Big Ten schools. The 6-foot-8 combo forward tweeted news of his commitment.

Michigan has also offered Devin Booker, Trevon Bluiett and Jae’Sean Tate in the class of 2014. Florida big man Ricky Doyle and Ohio combo forward Vincent Edwards are also priority 2014 prospects.

This is an absolute shocker.. nearly all reports had it down to Illinois and Michigan with Purdue and OSU on the outside looking in… this is out of left field.. I can’t believe it

Where did this come from?? Totally stunned… all reports had this down to Illinois and Michigan with Purdue and OSU on the outside looking in… what a bummer

KBD was a perfect fit in Beilein’s system and now he is going to our rivals… that’s a punch in the gut

  • serious

Sucks. How the hell did this happen?

  • TKWolverine

I assume this helps us with Tate.

    • A2JD

Rivals now lists Tate as a bucknut commit.

  • Steve2081

This makes me sick. But hey now I don’t have to go support him at U High games. I hate that school anyway.

  • Rob

Gotta think our chances with Tate just went up….

  • gobluemd16

Didn’t see that one coming, wow. Hopefully we get a commit from one of the other three primary targets soon!

  • Steve2081

Gotta get Vince Edwards in for a visit.

  • Steve2081

In other news Bradley beat UIPUI by 7. Cleveland State also got a win.

  • Ben

whatever – not a perfect fit. Perfect fits want to play here. NEXT. Lets go get Bluitt, Booker and Tate….IF thay want to be here. We want Michigan Men. Theres plenty of recruits out there that will want to join what we have started.

    • geoffclarke

However you can’t deny that he would have been a perfect fit if he wanted to come.

  • Ben

fyi Karl Towns about to come off the board too. He will be committing Dec 3rd. More than likely….Kentucky.

    • Steve2081

Yeah I never really thought we had a chance at him anyway. Would have been nice to get him on campus anyway though. Might have raised our prestige a tiny bit.

They have a good chance of landing the #2 player in the country, Diamond Stone or one of the top bigs in Stephen Zimmerman. Land either of them, I’d be happy. If they can land Hyron Edwards, Luke Kennard and either Diamond or Zimmerman, I would be extremely happy with this class.

  • Steve2081

I also would not be surprised if this put OSU in the lead for Jordan Ash if they want him too. Him and KBD seem to be really good friends,

I’m guessing John Groce is feeling just a little less warm & fuzzy towards his former boss this morning…

This is sad news, but you cannot always get everybody. Hopefully Booker will end the hassle of recruiting and give his verbal to UM.

  • Steve2081

Oklahoma St is up 15 on NC State with 17 minutes to go in the game.

  • Brick93

I guess he was full of it when he said that he wanted to go to a top engineering school.

  • section13row15

Who do you guys think is a better player, Zak Irvin or KBD? Wouldn’t they play the same position(s) anyway? Or is Irvin a 2/3 and KBD a 3/4? I think this would be an easier pill to swallow if he hadn’t gone to OSU. I hate Thad Matta so much. His red face and yellow teeth disgust me.

    • geoffclarke

I think they are different players. I see Irvin as more of a 2 and KBD as a 3/4. They are both great players and I think KBD has a huge upside.

  • Retiredat23

    Argh….anyone but Ohio

  • blah

With an Ignorant tweet like that, I wouldn’t want the kid on my team.
