Former Michigan captain Zack Novak informed us last week that his plans to play basketball in Holland were all but official and he completed the deal this weekend, according to AnnArbor.com.

The former Michigan basketball captain confirmed to AnnArbor.com on Monday that he’s signed a professional contract with Landstede, a Netherlands-based club that plays in the Dutch Basketball League.

Located in Zwolle, the capital city of the Dutch province Overijssel, Landstede plays in the Dutch First Division of the DBL, which is the highest pro basketball league in the Netherlands.

Novak is the second member of Michigan’s 2011-12 squad to sign an overseas contract, joining fellow ex-captain Stu Douglass, who will play professionally next season in Pamplona, Spain.

Good luck Zack. I love you man.

You’ll want to fix the tag. Novak is misspelled as “Novka”, the less-well-known Russian cousin branch of the Novak family. ;-)

I’m a little surprised Novak didn’t get signed by a team in a stronger league. He hit 39 percent of his 3′s the last 2 years, 85 percent of his Free Throws, rebounded well for his size and competes hard. His height and lack of lateral quickness and ability to create his own shot all hurt him, but I’d think he could be a good backup swingman for a good European team. He’s a pretty safe bet for the “hustle on D, spread the floor on offense with 3pt shooting” role player every team needs a couple of. I guess Euro teams don’t tend to lack 3pt shooting, though. Hope he does well.

    Light ‘em up, Zack!

Their team colors are yellow and blue. Should make for an easy transition.
