Lakers re-sign Darius Morris, Cavs waive Manny Harris

The Los Angeles Lakers extended a qualifying offer of $962,000 to Darius Morris over the weekend and Yahoo!’s Mark Spears reports that Morris has accepted the offer. Morris played in 19 games as a rookie for the Lakers and averaged 2.5 points per game.

The good: Even with playing on a veteran-laden team, Morris never lacked for confidence. At times, that became a weakness. But that trait, along with his determined work ethic, will also help him become a good NBA player. Morris showed that mind set in the Lakers’ first pre-season game when he scored 11 points. When Morris was moved into the backup point-guard spot because of Steve Blake’s rib/sternum injury in early January, he looked more than comfortable both in finding his shot and facilitating.

Former Michigan guard Manny Harris was waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. Harris played with the Cavs for two seasons, playing in 80 games (with 20 starts) and averaging 6 points, three rebunds and two assists per contest. Harris missed significant time during his second year in the NBA because of a bizarre freezer burn injury from a cooling chamber injury sustained at Nike’s headquarters last summer.
