Pre-Game Reading

  • Abertain

Too many missed threes by Burke at the end. Timmy can shoot over the top. Let him. Jeez, man, that’s awful.

    • Scott1222

Couldn’t as he hid in the corner again….hideaway not Hardaway…

  • Quick Darshan

Sad to see Novak and Douglas go out like that.  Good career kids.

    • RikSmits

agreed – they deserve better. will always be the cornerstone to the Beiliein era

  • MGoTweeter

bottom line is that michigan was just bad the last couple of weeks.  Dont know what happened after the first half against PSU, but this team has just sucked since then.

    • jemblue

Lack of depth may have finally caught up to us.

  • Abertain

Well, this team basically hit their ceiling. M needs more talent down the road. Mitch and GR can’t come soon enough. I mean, I loved these guys, but I just want an M team that has an outside shot to win the whole damn thing.

  • Blu Moon

Very solid from the line tonight.

  • Mattski

Dunno whether the rest of the world just figured Michigan out about 3/4 of the way through the season or everyone wore down a bit, but. . . something missing down the stretch. Oh well, great year anyway.

  • Hail

Lets be honest too, Ohio is crap

  • Hail

Everyone can say whatever they want, but that Ohio team is definitely a 3rd place MAC team we just got dominated by

    • MGoTweeter

u have a weird definition of dominated but yea they arent that good and michigan lost

    • Dave

Yes, losing by one possession definitely equals being “dominated.”

  • Yeah OHIO sucks balls.

  • So will the whole OHIO thing be awkward now?

  • Buford McBuford

Ohio played very well, but I think UM would have lost to most teams in the tournament playing as they did over the last few weeks.  Just a very unfortunate time to hit a bump in the road.

  • JDiesel

Great year.  Huge fun.  Co-big 10 regular season champs.  And some serious studs coming in next year.  But an awfully disappointing finish…

    • Indiana_Matt

       true

  • Hail

dominated as in they had control the whole game over us and we looked like the 13 seed tonight

    • jemblue

Letting the other team have four possessions in which it could tie in the last three minutes is not “control”

      • Hail

They led the whole way against a 4 seed, that’s control. That’s the closest we got all night and didn’t even grab a tie.

        • MGoTweeter

control and dominate have different meanings

          • Hail

If it was the other way around and we won like that, I’d say we dominated that game. No tie or leads from the other team is pretty darn good for a basketball game.

          • MGoTweeter

michigan led?  and it was tied?  i guess i just have a different definition.  Did ohio play better absolutely.  But dominate?  what msu did to michigan at breslin was dominate.  To me dominate means that the other team had no chance at all to win the game.  Tonight, michigan had plenty of chances to win the game, but they chose not to take it

          • Hail

Like you said, it’s a matter of opinion. I feel like we got dominated tonight. Couldn’t get stops, couldn’t get easy looks on offense.

          • MGoTweeter

i think the 5-10 missed layups would disagree with you on the couldnt get looks point, but i agree that they couldnt get stops

          • jemblue

We did get a lot of stops down the stretch.  Ultimately we just didn’t put it all together.  Either we traded baskets with them or traded empty possessions.

        • jemblue

We’ll have to agree to disagree.  Ohio very nearly gagged this game away.  They were up by 9 points and did nothing offensively for the last 5-6 minutes.  Unfortunately, we did not capitalize.

  • Oak Park Dave

    Next year

  • MGoTweeter

Beilein and co, with a terrible strategy to start the game defensively and very slow to adjust.  That dug the hole, but certain players just never showed up in this game and others made terrible decisions down the stretch.  Michigan gave this one away.

  • KBLOW

watching Duke lose helps A LOT.

    • MGoTweeter

doesnt help me at all.  But add a kansas and msu loss on top and maybe I will drink enough to think about something else

  • Buford McBuford

On the plus side, 2 seeds Duke and Missouri losing will help distract from the Wolverines laying an egg

  • Hail

Congrats to Stu and Zack on a great career, but where in the world was bloodied Zack? Pumped up Zack to lead us?

  • Alex

We have had a great year and exceeded our potential.

Three out of four Tourney appearances is great and impressive.

Stinks to bow out early but they played a great game and we played a sub par one.

At the end of the day we earned a share of the Big Ten Championship and that is something of which the team and us should be proud.

Good luck to Novak, Douglas, and Person for helping to bring us back. May we continue the progress in future years.

  • Joel_C

    Well that sucked

  • RikSmits

    Whiskey? yes please.

  • Blu Moon

MAC took us down . . . well, I’ve got go to answer all my Sparty buddies texts.  Sad. Very Blu Moon signing off.   Fun year.  Go Blue and God Bless.

    • MGoTweeter

didnt know spartys knew how to text?  huh

  • @Blu Moon, same here. Had to turn my fricken phone off. Going to be a long weekend.

  • Looks like Mich will be the only blemish for the Big Ten in the first round. Never would have guessed that before the tourney.

  • Hail

I felt really good about this game until yesterday when there were no upsets at all. You knew they were going to come and they have.

  • KBLOW

I so wanted the Sweet 16, but this team played over their heads all year.  It sure looked like we were just worn out.

  • MGoTweeter

wow refs giving duke a huge break

    • KBLOW

Yeah that call on the 3 was BS

  • bluewill

this game seemed like it was more on our defense.  though we sure did miss a lot of bunnies.  Tim and Evan need to dunk more of those – went up too soft.

    • jemblue

The guys need to do the Mikan drill this offseason.  Can they shoot layups with their off-hand?

    • Scott1222

I’ve never seen Smot dunk…..in this day and age at 6’9 u need to finish everytime ur w/in 8 feet of the rim let alone 2 feet…

  • So is Coach B on the hot seat now? s/

    • Scott1222

      No..he’s a great coach….top recruits r on there way….

  • Fvsdevin

    What a frackin bummer :(

  • KBLOW

Clark Kellog is suck a Duke ball sucker. Just saying.

  • BAH

I’m not normally this worked up, but this team’s potential was so much more than what they showed tonight.  That’s what is so frusterating – we took Ohio’s absolute best shot, and left LAYUPS on the floor to lose.  Should not have lost.  Ohio wasn’t just a little better tonight – they were a lot better.  Michigan played so far below their level it’s just so disappointing.

  • bluewill

still can’t take that Big Ten regular season championship away from our guys.  given our talent level and highly limited depth, we really did overachieve.  anything after the title was gravy.  on to next year’s talent explosion!

  • Scott1222

Frustration levels r at the max….gonna leave it at that…its been nice posting in the discussion w everyone throughout the year…great job to Dylan and staff for everything u guys have done thru the season…I can’t even begin to explain how I’m feeling w this loss…so ill keep it to myself….god bless…

  • Hail

What’s Jim Nanatz going to do now? He can’t be bias and root for Coach K on the air now.

    • Hail

      Nantz*

  • BAH

In what universe is losing to a 13 seed “over achieving?”  I’m very happy with the regular season, but this wasn’t a year where “just a bid” was the expectation.  This was a sweet-16 team.  There is no doubt that when it counted this team underwhelmed.  That isn’t to take away from what they gave us, I’m proud of the team and proud to be a Wolverine, but I think each member of that team would tell you the same – they did not achieve their final goals.

    • jemblue

That’s only true if you define “when it counted” as the tourney and nothing else.  This team was money in many, many close games this season.  Winning the Big Ten with a six-man rotation (many of whom were not highly regarded recruits) remains a great accomplishment. There’s a banner going up at Crisler next year.

      • BAH

Yes, post-season tournaments.  Where every team in NCAA basketball is judged.  Like I said – thrilled with the season, couldn’t be prouder of Novak and Douglass, but these past few weeks have been bad basketball.  The team would tell you the same.

      • Giebz

They didn’t WIN the Big Ten!!!!  They tied, and then got bounced to a 13 seed in the first round.  It is that kind of attitude that caused this team to slip in the B1G and NCAA tourneys.  I thought Novak/Belein would keep them from this, but I guess not.  Next year.

  • Hail

Weird thing was, they had no fastbreak points and shot the three well, two things they didn’t do all year. On our end, we didn’t lose 2 straight all year until now.

  • MGoTweeter

Hey great chatting with everyone. Thanks as always to Dylan and co but I’m gonna go drink myself to death. Laters

  • UM4LIFE

We deserved to lose nobody came to play. I don’t know what happen during halftime of the penn state game b/c since that we were playing like shit. Above average year hopefully we grow from this. Also hopefully our incoming freshmen make an impact for next year.

  • Scott1222

It was 63-60 for the last 4:00 of the game…we just couldn’t execute on offense and settled for 3’s….live or die by the 3 ball….I guess…

  • Wayman Britt

Real disappointing when your worst basketball of the season was the last 3 to 4 games.

Tweeter – save me some drinks I will join you.  I cannot write or think about UM basketball for the night.

  • JW44

Sucks that it ended this way. It was a great regular season:

    — Won the Big 10 title
    — Beat MSU for a third straight time
    — Best year since ’93-94, (or 97-98?)

In the end, you’re measured by what you do in the tournament. This must be used as motivation for next year.

  • Scott Kremkow

Burke 5 for 14, Hardaway 5 for 14, just like vs Ohio State, we didnt do a job driving the lane. When teams really defend us tough, and can and keep it up, we get away from our game.

  • Scott1222

Gonna now watch the painful replay of the game and see just what happened….all happened so fast….seemed like a very quick game from opening tip to final buzzer…

  • Madness

There were multiple times during this one where I thought ‘man, McGary or GRIII would have thrown that down’. Good season but next year is gonna be fun.

  • Scott Kremkow

the missed dunk, the missed layups, the missed reverse layups the missed rebound putbacks, it was painful and more than would have made up that five point deficit. a tough loss.

  • Arsenal926

silver lining in this loss is that had Michigan made a run in the tourney and THJ or Burke played very well they could have left… next year were a legitimate final four contender and hey 169 days till football season

  • Lupe Izzo Whore

personally, I’m really sick of saying “next year” every goddamn year

  • wolverine_longhorn

We lost to a better team.  Enough said.

Bring on the new recruits and upgrade in athleticism!
