Pre-Game Reading:

  • Mistersuits

This is pretty much exactly how I expected our team to play with a freshman point guard. We’re fortunate that for the other 30 games that hasn’t been the case.

    • Blu Moon

I wouldn’t trade Trey for the second coming of Magic.

    • Wayman Britt

I am not sure what you are saying about Burke, he has been great all season.

      • Mistersuits

Exactly. For thirty games he’s been amazing. But today’s performance is what I thought we were going to have going into the season. Which goes to show how fortunate we are.

    • Scott1222

What!?! He’s been unbelievable all year…put the team on his back all year…he’s tired…no lift in his shot…but he’s been $ all season for us…

      • Mistersuits

Is everyone misreading what I wrote?? Trey has been INCREDIBLE all year. Today he’s terrible. Today is what I thought we were going to have more of coming into the year losing Darius.

  • Scott1222

    Novack playing his heart out…

  • A2MIKE

Please take Burke out.  This is not helping confidence or momentum going into the tournament.

  • Joe

My worry is we’re going to be tired for the round of 32 game too. Trey just plays too many minutes. And we never blow anyone out, so it’s unlikely we’ll get to rest him in the first round

  • goblue85

book it we lose first round in the NCAAs.   lets just call it a season.

    • MGoTweeter

      Lol

    • Sarah

I don’t think the team we will play will be as good as osu. I wish we were planning better too. But I have seen sparty get blown out in this tournament and go to the final four.

    • Mattski

      Why do you say this?

  • MGoTweeter

Well Burke was due to have a bad day. Unfortunate that it happened on the same day that guys like thjr, Morgan, stu, all chose to have a bad day.

  • Mistersuits

10 made field goals to 16 turnovers. It’s just not our day. We don’t have the bench to compete in a tournament where you have to play back-to-back days.

  • Alex

Whatever happens and whatever anybody says this team deserves to be here.

They always go hard. All I know is we are 9-0 after a loss and hope we make it 10-0 as it is looking like will be the case that this is the case.

This has been frustrating but I will continue to watch.

  • Blu Moon

We’ve been punching above our weight all year, and should be very please and proud of the guys.   Coach B did more with less, and should have been Coach of the Year too.  (Tom did well though with what he has.)

    • Wayman Britt

      True that.

  • Scott1222

Keep fighting out there fellas regardless of what mrs suits has to say…

    • Mistersuits

      Now you’re just trolling me.

      • Scott1222

We’re all disappointed but the comments seem to b negative…

        • Mistersuits

The observation is, Trey Burke is 1 for 9 shooting with 9 turnovers against the #1 defense in the country. He’s playing the way you’d expect a freshman PG would play against an elite defense. We have enjoyed great fortune all year that he’s played way above his experience level and won us all kinds of big games. Today is 90% due to fatigue after the Minnesota game.

Unfortunately we’re not quite on the level of OSU/MSU yet.

Michigan will get rested and let’s hope that whatever pod they get put in is favorable and we don’t go to overtime on the first night!

          • Scott1222

            And I agree w that MISTERsuits….

          • Jalen Rose

Not being on their level is one thing.  Getting destroyed and not showing up is another.  This is pathetic.  Two steps backward for the program

          • jemblue

Two steps backward for the *program*?  Gee, don’t overreact or anything.

          • Blu Moon

Again, we were over-achievers all year.   Caught up with us today.

          • Scott1222

            Two steps backwards…yeah ok pal..

  • Mike

Ther are a lot of mich players on the deck trying to get rebounds

    • Scott1222

      Agreed

  • Scott1222

    There u go Trey..keep playing hard…finish strong fellas…

  • Alex

    Apologies this is frustration talking:

Is this what Dante’s seven circles of hell supposed to look like?

  • Scott Kremkow

Before the game, what would you have said our chances of winning would be today if Burke shot 1 for 9 and had 3 points, and Hardaway Jr, 2 for 9 and 9 points.

    • Scott Kremkow

and Burke has turned the ball over 9 times too.  I just got to hand it to the Buckeyes defense today.

      • Jalen Rose

Buckeyes best defender was Trey Burke.  No need to give credit to those thugs

  • A2MIKE

    Time to start pulling guys.

  • Wayman Britt

    Time to sub.

  • Blu Moon

No quit . . . Blue Pride.  Just over matched.

  • Craft, Burke, Sullinger and Hardaway out of the game. White flag. Time to regroup for the tourney.

  • jemblue

Why is Ohio jacking up threes?

    • Blu Moon

I wondered the same thing.  Hey, if I was the Buck’s coach, I’d pull those three launchers.

  • MGoTweeter

Ugh. Michigan just didn’t show up for this tournament. Should have lost last night and got smoked today. Good news is that none of this matters, play well next week. That’s all that matters.

  • Alex

As much as this hurts us, I imagine it hurts the players even more. Sparty and Buck fans are going to enjoy this. Oh well let them have their day.

We know our program is on the right track with the right guys and the right coach.

I still think the Tourney format is better for our team due to the extra day as other people have said.

  • Blu Moon

    New goal . . . keep it under 30.

  • UM4LIFE

When need length and size to be elite.

    • Denarded

Naw, we beat Sparty and ohio this year without elite length and height. We just need shots to fall.

      • Buford McBuford

well, we beat MSU and OSU on our home court– we need to convince the NCAA committee to let Ann Arbor host all tournament games.

  • Wayman Britt

Brundridge not looking good.  I know it’s garbage time, but that is disappointing.

  • Blu Moon

Wow – this group has been hustling on the boards pretty well.

  • Blu Moon

    Sweet JOSH!

  • rlcBlue

    Person outscored Burke.

  • Blu Moon

Liked to heard what Coach B just said.

  • A2MIKE

one thing is conclusive… brundidge is further away from playing impactful minutes than I thought

  • A2MIKE

I wonder if Beilein was upset with the trash talking

  • Quaint06

I look for the team to regroup and look very strong in the Big Dance. Will that mean a trip to the Elite 8? Who knows? But I think they have too much character to keep looking so bad.

  • Mattski

At the beginning of the year there was a lot of talk about who the most important Michigan player might be, and many people here thought it was Smotrycz. Do people think he is going to take a big step forward next year? I feel pretty confused about whether it’s a question of maturity with him or what. . .

    • MGoTweeter

He just needs to get more athletic or learn how to craftier. U can tell he tries hard and wants to get better. Hopefully another offseason in the weight room helps him. I’m more concerned with morgan right now

  • A2MIKE

I think the most important player next year is McGary.  He needs to come ready to play and contribute from day 1.

    • jemblue

McGary can be a great asset but I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s the most important player.  Don’t forget that Horford will return, and Bielfeldt enter the mix.  We’ll have far better depth up front even besides McGary.

      • A2MIKE

I understand the front court will be better loaded, but McGary offers the potential to be the true Beilein 5.  Great size, good shooter, very agile and athletic.  Morgan lacks the touch and hands, Horford is not a great shooter either, Bielfeldt is a bit of an unknown.  McGary presents the opportunity to go head to head with Payne/Nix, Sullinger/Ravenel, Zeller/Watford.

    • MGoTweeter

All three incoming players instantly make mIchifan more athletic and longer. But who cares about that right now. Big week coming up.

    • Scott1222

He sure as hell won’t let the opposition take it to the rack so easy…just hope they never start askn him to take charges instead of blocking shots and cleaning house on the boards…

    • Mattski

I know there’s plenty of talent coming; it’s Smotrycz–and whether he ends up being more than good spot relief–that I wonder about.

    • rlcBlue

The most important player might be our backup point guard, Carlsomenik Stausbodydidge. Replacing Stu Douglass is going to be crucial.

      • A2MIKE

I truly believe Stauskas is going to be a very capable back up pg.

        • Mattski

Good as those guys both look, you really can’t assume that many players excel as freshmen. Morris didn’t; Burke has been amazing.

    • maxwell’s demon

I don’t know about most important, but I definitely agree that we desperately need him. I don’t care if he averages 6 pts, we need his defense and rebounding. I’m sick of just getting abused in the post. I think getting Horford back will help, but McGary is the type of player we need to compete with MSU and OSU type physical play.

  • Scott1222

Anyone think this loss and in the manner it was could potentially knock us outa the 3 seed?

    • Buford McBuford

maybe if Georgetown and Marquette had made bit splashes in the Big East tourny, but given that they flamed out early, I don’t think UM will be too hurt by getting beat down by a team on the cusp of a 1 seed.  That said, I’m not sure a 4 would be a disaster for Michigan, because some of the 6 seeds would be bad match-ups for the Wolverines.

      • A2MIKE

very true.  In the end 3 or 4, what really matters is the draw.  I would rather be a 4 in Syracuse’s region than a 3 in the same region as North Carolina as a 1 and Kansas as a 2.  It’s all about the draw.

    • Joel_C

Yeah I think we’re a soild 4 now. Florida St will probably jump us, especially if they beat UNC tomorrow. Louisville could as well if they beat Cincy.

      • AG

I’d rather be a 4 in Portland than a 3 in Nashville with Vandy as our six, or a 3 in Columbus with Akron as our 14.

        • mstein23

I hear you on Vandy in Nashville, but the Commodores are likely to be higher than a 6 seed now.  So, I’d rather we stay closer to home, if possible.

  • Mistersuits

It’s pretty clear Michigan’s MO to this point…. we will not lose our first game of the weekend. Michigan will either go down in the round of 32 or the elite 8 but definitely not the first round or the sweet 16 if we make it (and I’m optimistic about our matchups because not everyone we play is going to be OSU realizing they should have been world-beaters from the get go).

  • AG

    Consider the following:

On November 14, Marquette beat Norfolk State 99-68.  Two weeks later on November 21, they beat the same Norfolk State team in the finals of the Paradise Jam 58-56.  What changed?

Norfolk State didn’t foul, they didn’t commit a lot of turnovers, they rebounded better, and Marquette shot worse.  Wild swings are not atypical in college basketball.  VCU shot lighter than lights out from 3 against a Kansas team many thought was unstoppable.  Flukes happen, and they skew games all the time.

Sure maybe Michigan’s win was the fluke, but we’ve all seen how OSU gives dramatically less effort when they aren’t getting the fouls, especially Sullinger.  I’d rather shoot this bad and commit those turnovers today then Thursday/Friday.

Give the team a bit of a rest while MSU and OSU spin their wheels an extra day.  We beat OSU and MSU when it counted this year, and nobody’s taking that banner away from us.

    Go Blue.

    • Mistersuits

+1. Next week’s gonna be big.
