ESPN: Horford says he’ll likely redshirt

jon-horford-michigan-7[1]ESPN’s Michael Rothstein caught up with Jon Horford after Michigan’s loss in East Lansing on Sunday and the sophomore big man reiterated that a redshirt remains the most likely option.

“If coach said, ‘We absolutely need you to come back,’ I could come back,” Horford said Sunday following Michigan’s 64-54 loss to Michigan State. “But other than that, I’ve missed so many games that I feel like coming back at this point would almost be a waste of a season.”

“I’m still having pain in my foot, so I don’t want to risk re-fracturing it,” Horford said. “I’ve been taking it kind of slow.”

At this point it’s the obvious move.  We could have used him, if healthy, against some of our recent opponents (especially OSU/MSU) but now, there aren’t that many big lineups left on the schedule, and there aren’t enough games left in the season to justify burning the redshirt.

Agree 100%, definitely redshirt him now.  We can use his length next year, because you never know what is going to happen,.

        Get healthy! We need you!

Feel for Jon. This seems like the best move for him and the team. A stress fracture seems like the kind of thing that could easily get rushed. You hate to see a guy rush back, play game or two, reinjure himself, and thereby lose the season and the redshirt.

Silver lining, at least his injury didn’t happen one game later.

And it will break up our big man log jam. Now we’ll have Morgan, McLimans, and Smot in the same class, Horford a year behind, and Mitch and Mad Max in the class after that.
