Dylan Burkhardt

Michigan and Michigan State will battle on the court on Tuesday night but a pair of future rivals excelled at the 2012 Flying to the Hoop Invitational on Saturday. 2013 Michigan commitment Zak Irvin and 2012 Michigan State commitment Gary Harris combined for 50 points in a 39 point victory. Here are the highlights from City League Hoops:

Here’s my question for everyone (Dylan, maybe we can get a Forum page for this kind of thing):Is this team better or worse than last year? We have a better record than a year ago, but a lot of that is the schedule.  Without poring over stats (I’m just going from memory) considering the major players/positions: -PG: seems Burke’s a better shooter than DMo was, but DMo was a much better passer.  So maybe that’s a wash.-Smot, THJ, Stu: overall, pretty close to last year’s output, I guess. -JMo: slightly less productive than last year. -Novak: slightly better than last year, with the 2-pt shooting Dylan has pointed out. -bench: roughly the same. I think the ranking we’ve had has maybe been deceiving, because this team is pretty close to last year’s (and I don’t recall us being ranked last year).Interested in your thoughts…

at this point in the season, this year’s team is better than last year’s.  Last year the team really looked clueless until the State game.  This year the team has put together a bunch of solid efforts early in the year and lately.  The real key question is whether this year’s team will be better in march than last year’s team was in march?

100% agree, it’s all about March.  We all know Tim and Evan are going thru slumps, hopefully they can remain positive to build toward March.

Good question.  I actually think it’s virtually the exact same as last year.  If we get hot, we are going to be a good team come March.  If not, we are going to struggle to make the tourney.  I’m a little on the glass is half empty side right now because in order to repeat last year’s performance, I think we need to have Hardaway play like he did at the end of last season which might not be doable.  He was completely on fire towards the end of last season and won quite a few games for us.

Is Irvin #40 or #12 in that video?

    • 12 sorry should have specified. 40 is Harris. Their names appear in the bottom corner.
