Jordan Morgan, Tim Hardaway Jr., Trey Burke and Zack Novak all met with the media this evening after Michigan’s 59-55 win over Western Illinois to discuss what went right, what went wrong and the upcoming trip to Maui.

Good videos all around.  I have to say that I think W. Illinois should get more respect with Ceola Clark, that kid is a beast.  Maui will be interesting and will be a great growth opportunity for the team regardless of the outcome.

On a side note:  I’ll say I’d be interested in seeing a comparison between Darius Morris and Trey Burke in their first X many games for Michigan (or perhaps other Frosh PGs).  Obviously their styles of play are very different, and Trey is getting enough spotlight right now, but I think it would still be an interesting read.

I agree. It would be interesting to see a statistical comparison between the 2 (in a couple of weeks, 3 games is not enough to really draw any conclusions). Purely from memory I feel that Burke is playing better through the first 3 games than Morris played at the beginning of his freshman year. When I think of Morris I think of his ability to penetrate and dish the ball, and I really don’t think we saw much of that at the beginning of his freshman year. He also hasn’t scored as much as Burke has, but we’ve only played 3 games and none of the games were against good opponents. I think his real test will be in Hawaii, if he doesn’t get frazzled against quality opponents then I will start to get really excited.

      • Yeah. Not really sure it’s fair to compare Burke against Ferris, Towson and W. Illinois to Morris against Northern Michigan and Houston Baptist. But hey, why not:

Morris had 16 points, 8 assists and five turnovers in those first two games combined on 7 of 10 shooting. He scored 11 points (4-15 fg), 5 assists and 8 turnovers over the three games in Orlando.

        Pretty striking contrast.

        • To compare Trey has 30 points over 3 games on 9 of 23 shooting with 10 assists.

John had it right, I was looking for something a little bit down the line.  Further through the non-conf. schedule maybe going into big ten play.  It’s still not a totally fair comparison.

Two different seasons, two different players, but I think it would be interesting in a Michigan trend sense.  Michigan two years ago was at one place and Michigan now is at another.  Michigan now is at a place where I am very upset at a 59-55 win over a very underrated team 3 games into the season.

I agree with what the players were saying. This W. Illinois team looks like they are better than advertised. If they can just hold onto the ball they should be decent in their league. I just try to remind myself that our guys are still so young. Four of our five starters consistent of 3 Sophs and a FR. We’ll be fine.
