2011 NBA Draft Open Thread

Dylan Burkhardt

Tonight is the big night for former Michigan point guard Darius Morris. Most mock drafts have Morris projected to be selected somewhere between the late first and early second rounds. We will be following along and wanted to open up the comments for any draft talk throughout the day.

I like SI’s mock draft. There’s been talk about the Pistons getting the 14th & 23rd from Houston for their #8. I would love to get a Big Man and then D Mo with the 23rd.

    • gpsimms

that would be ideal, it would definitely re-ignite my piston’s fanhood if they got dmo

Hope he goes in the first round. Just not to the Knicks. No way I could root for him if he played in New York.

As a Pistons fan, I really want them to draft Bismack Biyombo. They really need interior toughness/presence.  Bismack provides that with freakish athleticism, shotblocking and strength.  His defense is already NBA caliber.  To me, his floor is Dikembe Mutombo which isn’t a bad floor.  He has a potential to be the best player in the draft when all is said and done.

    • Beo

      except  that Mutombo was 7’2.

I’m talking about their style, not height/weight.

I also hope they can trade down w/ Houston for the two picks.  I guess Charlotte just moved in front to #7 to get a big before Detroit.

I was watching ESPN and Jay Bilas was ranking his top PG with no mention of Darius. However, the college basketball guys (Bilas, Vitale, etc…) are basing these guys on what they saw them do in college. Guys like Chad Ford and Andy Katz are basing them on what they’ve actually heard from NBA scouts and team’s needs. I hope Darius can come in in the first round and get that guaranteed money.

  • Musket Rebellion

Dylan, I don’t know if you are a Pistons fan or not, but would Darius Morris fit with that team which has lacked a true PG since they stupidly dealt Chauncey?

    • I am a Pistons fan but not really a NBA fan… I think Morris would fit best on a team with a lot of major offensive options so he could focus on distributing early in his career.

      • ZRL

I think Dmo would do well on a team with a lot of shooters and a good pick and roll big man. I’m not sure how I feel about Dmo going on a team like the Heat who have a lot of offensive options that create their offense themselves.

Joe Dumars sucks!!! Another combo guard for the Pistons. YEAH! Why does everyone respect this guy so much? Who has he ever drafted in his 10 years who has become a star? Answer – No One!!!

    • KRN

Not to mention that Knight looks like the most disappointed player in the draft. Looks like he really doesn’t want to he here.

      • Kevin in GR

        I thought the same thing

      • He lost a lot of money. Most mocks had him around 3 and he went 8. I assume that’s a decent chunk of change.

    • gpsimms

i dont know, no one expected he would be around that late.  it would have been hard to pass him up.

why is everybody upset about the knight pick? this just means stuckey can move to the 2 (his real position) and they can finally get rid of rip!

besides, who should they have picked instead? kawhi leonard? jimmer?

        • jemblue

Yeah, I don’t see the problem.  He was definitely the best player left on the board.

    • dd34

      Tayshawn worked out okay.

  • Anton

this really sucks for Darius. I’m holding onto hope, but not looking good. I think he should have stayed.

  • alright

Seems like Cole just took a spot for Morris

  • gpsimms

man those last two picks hurt.

  • Anton

I hope his brother is happy.

  • gpsimms

ugh singler.  maybe clippers or lakers take darius?  itd be cool for him to be at home…

  • Bill

did Darius sign with an agent?

  • MattM

I thought the Spurs should’ve taken him at the end of the 1st round, considering they’re trading George Hill.

  • MattM

    By “him”, I meant Morris.

  • MattM

At this point let’s hope he goes undrafted so he can pick the right situation, similar to Manny last year.

  • Ace_maker4

He still shows as the 4th best player on the Jay Bilas board. Not looking good at all for DMO; he better hope he did not sign with an agent because if he did he will be heading to Europe. Not that it is not a good living but certainly not his dream.

  • Ace_maker4

    Lakers take DMO

  • Kevin in GR

Congrats to D-Mo! Great for him that he can play in LA (Although probably a little awkward going up on stage at this point in the draft)

  • gpsimms

congrats to darius, i always kind of hated the lakes, but if they give dmo some play they’ll have a new fan

  • Ghostbuster_McLaughlin

how do u like his fit in LA, dylan

Seems like one of the best places he could go at this point. Fisher is getting older and Blake didn’t live up to expectations last year. Nice he can go home to

  • Webbdog

Yeah Darius!!! Good Luck!!!!! Beautiful situation lands with a winning organization. And I’m Pretty sure Darius and his Brother are Very Happy!!!!

  • NYC Blue

    Congratulations Darius! Best of luck.

  • Alex

    Good for Darius.
