Michigan didn’t have long to rest back in Ann Arbor before getting back on the road and heading to State College, PA. The reward is a date with Talor Battle and the Penn State Nittany Lions, winners of four straight at the Bryce-Jordan Center.

Tip off is an early Super Bowl Sunday 12 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. We’ll be discussing the game in the comments so we encourage you all to join in.

Here’s the game preview for reference and, if you missed it, we posted video and scouting of Trey Burke, who had 35 points on 7 threes for Northland last night.

  • Tweeter

    Nice Morris

  • CJD

Are we going to see another game where SMOT puts up the big goose egg?

    • tin mad dog

He’s inconsistent but we got the W so I’m happy! He’ll get better.

  • chris

    YEH boys… way to overcome

  • billiam

yes. Just Won it! Right? Someone who’s got video tell me!

    • Tweeter

not quite over. One more free throw

  • http://deleted Mattski

Yes! Surprisingly not so awful on the radio feed. . .

  • CJD

What the heck was that by Morris? Yes wait but make the basket…………….

  • DB

Up 3, inbounding ball with 4 seconds left

  • Eric

4 seconds left up 3 with the ball

  • DB

Game over. Michigan 65, Penn State 62

  • Tweeter

YES! very ugly, but a huge road win. Hardaway was fantastic in that second half

  • Eric

YES! huge win on the road

  • http://Umhoops.com KAB

    Wow what a win!

  • Dylan Burkhardt

Great win, especially after falling behind big in both halves. Gutty effort. Tim Hardaway Jr. came alive and simply willed Michigan to victory.

    • Rebel

      That and good defensive rebounding.

    • Azad

      Dylan,

How do you like the Hardaway/Morgan pick and roll? Think we will see more of it? It offers a lot more because Hardaway is such a better shooting threat than Morris from outside

      • ForeverBlue23

I just heard JB talk about how they had been working with Hardaway (film and practice) to develop that so yeah, I think we will be seeing more.

  • Eric

jeez beat me to it haha

  • tin mad dog

    GO BLUE!

Nice comeback from being down 10 with about 10 minutes left!

    TIMMAY!!!

  • AG2

Satisfaction! Indiana and NW at home, let’s get at ‘em!!!

  • billiam

So just 5-2 for the rest of the way now and Our pipe dreams become possible.

  • Alex

Any road victory in the Big Ten is great. Good job Blue. Let’s repay Indiana and Noethwestern the favor and essentially lock up NIT bid.

    • mgocanada

Forget the NIT let’s get into the NCAAs. If it’s so hard to win on the road in the b10, that means we should have no problem with Indiana and Northwestern. Then we can drop one in Champaign, which I think is the hardest place to play, harder than Kohl (the lighting there is more suited to avant-garde theatre than sports). Then we can handle Iowa like we recently did. Then we’re at 17-11. So, then we take Wisconsin at home, repay them for what they did to us. Cue signature win. 18-11. Then, beat Minny in Minneapolis; a tall order, but we did it last year — think of it as Clemson redux. 19-11. Then, easily handle MSU at Crisler; Ken Pom favours us in that one, plus they have given up on life. 20-11. Two wins in the BTT (anything can happen in Indianapolis), and we just had a 22 win season. 22 wins from the consensus No.1 Conference, especially in a down year for ACC, SEC, PAC10, and mid-majors (Butler and Gonzaga anyone?) is a guaranteed invitation. Now all we gotta do is do it.

      • JimC

        Yeah!
lol @ ‘they have given up on life’

  • http://deleted Mattski

Kill me for my optimism–esp. when I counsel others not to get carried away–but it’s not impossible to imagine this team getting to 18 or so wins and winning a few in the tournament to sneak into the dance. . . is it?

I really thought this game was big, and they came through.

    • JimC

It looks like 19-12 is probably th best possible record, entering the BTT.
But that means beating WI and NW at home. NW is playing as well as we are right now. But what the heck, I agree the dream is alive!

    • Jeff

Here’s the problem. We still haven’t beaten a team that is likely to get an at-large bid. By contrast, in 2009 we beat six and get a 10 seed.

  • Jeff

This is extremely late because I had to DVR the game, just saw the play (at 12:52) where Jackson walked up to Morris and threw him to the ground and they called a foul on Morris. That is the Big Ten reffing play of the year.

  • JimC

Great win, where MSU, IL, and WI all lost!

  • Mattski

Nice that the highlights went up so fast for those of us who only heard the game. That drive by Stu in the first half was impressive–it’s all about the confidence with that guy. And that quick, hanging layup by Darius is a thing of beauty. We’ve gotten so used to his leadership so fast that everyone is crowing about Hardaway’s 13 while DMo puts up–what–21? How much fun is this team going to be for the next few years?

  • Champswest

Answer: This team will be very fun, hell, they are fun right now.
I predict that in two years we will miss Stu and Zack more than we missed Manny and Sims.

    • Mattski

      I didn’t say IN 2 years, I said FOR.

  • http://Umhoops.com KAB

Yea in 2009 we had more big wins but the bubble is weak this year.If we can get to 9-9 in the conference I dont see wow we cant get a At Large Bid.Not to mention we did not finish strong in 09.We limped into the dance!

    • Jeff

No way, we came on really strong at the end of 2009. Beat Purdue and swept Minnesota down the stretch. We could get to nine conference wins by beating NW, IU, Iowa, MSU (all non-NCAA teams) and WISC. No team in history has ever received an at-large bid after only beating one NCAA team.

  • http://Umhoops.com KAB

We went 4-4 down the stretch in 09…That’s not excactly finishing strong!!

    • Dylan Burkhardt

Michigan was 5-4 over its last 9 in the regular season (or 6-5 inc BTT) with wins over Minnesota (twice), Purdue, and at Northwestern. The losses were to UConn, MSU, @Wisc, and @Iowa in OT.

It was a pretty strong finish. There’s no denying that Michigan played its way into the tournament over that stretch.
