The last time Michigan went on the road it was November and we were wondering how the team would react to a pair of losses in Atlantic City. Michigan responded with one of their better performances of the season. Now they find themselves back on the road in one of the toughest venues in college basketball.

The game preview lives here and don’t hesitate to join in the discussion here as we follow along on the Big Ten Network. Tip off is 8:30 p.m. eastern.

Make sure to stop by after the game is over for a post game chat live with David Merritt.

    Ah youth

  • Jeff

Do we have an offensive rebound this half?

  • Dylan Burkhardt

And that three is a killer. 57-46 Wisconsin with 3 minutes to play. That’s probably it.

  • Mattski

Another fine squad just kind of schooling our young team here. Oh, well. :)

  • Tweeter

Lots of poor shot selection in this second half utlimately doomed them. But thats what you deal with when your team is mostly freshmen. Good effort from the boys so far though. My battery is about dead so I will be back later to read the post game. Hopefully we get hot and pull it out. Go Blue!

I’m sorry but Beilein’s substitutions this game were horrible and didn’t make sense. Benching Morris early in the first half for no reason really shook D-Mo up and benching our leading scorer in the second hald(Hardaway) for no reason, I just don’t get it.

    • wayman britt

Vogrich did have two nice threes, while Hardaway out.

    • mgocanada

I agree completely … when you make random adjustments (or punitive ones, or over-cautious ones), you take the rhythm out of the player… who, upon returning, is almost always a) ice cold and b) trying way too hard to do things alone. This “father knows best” type of micromanagement is one of the things that irks me about JB’s coaching style, for all its pluses.

      • Dustin

Beilein is just so touchy, whenever he sees a player do something wrong he immediately takes them out. You gotta let them play.

        • gordie bell

Morris poor play is on Morris, he just didn’t have it early on tonight, many poor decisions, played like he did last year for much of the game.

    • Dylan Burkhardt

Benching Morris after he picks up a charge early, then picks up his second foul right after? That falls on Beilein?

Hardaway was missing shots and Beilein put Vogrich in to provide a spark — he promptly hit two threes.

I have been frustrated with Beilein’s sub patterns before but I’m not really sure that this is one of those times.

      • Dustin

Morris picked up one foul and immediately went to the bench. It’d be another story if he was kept in and picked up another foul. but one foul and your gonna bench our best player?

        • CJD

Morris picked a bad foul and also played horrible defense; they are not good enough for that sort of effort.

  • wayman britt

Well even though our program is heading in the right direction, still a ways off from UW, Purdue and probably OSU next week.

  • jihadistjohn

love bo ryan blowing a gasket after they’ve been allowed to check our prostates on every possession up to that point while we piled up the touch fouls

    • mgocanada

      “Bo, you don’t know Diddley!”
      –Late 1980s commercial.

  • steve

dont really understand why it is so hard to win in the kohl center… are the students not there? it isnt even loud (as opposed to Cameron Indoor or something)

    • mgocanada

referees afraid of Bo Ryan making his gremlin face.

    • wayman britt

First, it’s because UW has good teams, plus Bo Ryan has intimated the refs so gets most of the calls at home.

      • jihadistjohn

the students are there, but their mouths are stuffed with cheese & bratwurst

        • mgocanada

haha, those German-Americans, always good for a laugh…. oh wait, sorry Dylan.

  • wayman britt

Morris is trying to do too much. One of his worst games this year.

    • Gary

Definitely not his night. When he was in, it looked like last year – the rest of the offense just died while he tried to do everything.

  • Mattski

Thought Morris was going to dribble right out of the Kohl Center. Sorry to see it get ragged at the end because I thought they had played a respectable game despite being outplayed.

    • mgocanada

First we lose Harbaugh, and now we get our asses handed to us after a second half collapse… Tough day to be a Michigan fan.

Oh well, Kansas had better watch out!

  • Chief

Next to impossible to win up there. This team is limited and even moreso when Morris isn’t in the game. Hopefully we get a miracle in one of the next two.

    • CJD

Ummmm, I bet if you run the stats they actually won the minutes that D Mo did not play tonight.

  • mgocanada

I’m hanging the blame for tonight squarely on the shoulders of Josh Bartelstein.

Over and out guys… it’s been fun as always.

  • Alex

Overall they played well. Solid First Half. The next two are more important anyway. If we could grab one of the next two to say it would be huge would be an understatement.

  • gordie bell

Much like Denard couldn’t do in conference what he could out of conference, Morris is going to face the same in hoops. More familiarity and better defenses are going to force Morris to adjust his game in the Big Ten. Help is on the way. Once Hardaway and Smot get comfortable this offense will become versatile, unfortunately it probably ain’t happening this season.

    • CJD

Good analogy; teams will and have figured out he is a one handed player. They will also let him dribble the air out of the ball all he wants.

  • AG2

Wisconsin is like the anti-Baylor: not much talent but more skilled than some pro teams. Just like last year, Wisconsin flipped a switch except they flipped it earlier this time. Hughes waited until late to take over the game this time Jordan Taylor hit 3 straight 3s less than 4 mins into the 2nd half. And we still got dominated by Nankivil.

I don’t know what Darius Morris needs, but I sure hope he gets it because we REALLY cannot afford to have him and Beilein not on the same page.

As much as I want to say oh well maybe we’ll get them at home they seem to play even better at Crisler. But I really think Michigan has some talent and a lot of potential. Just gotta keep watching, but I just wish we didn’t have so freaking many games on Big Ten Network.

    • MarcO

I hear you about the B10N unless of course you have it. Once you do, it’s incredible. You never miss a game. Have you ever checked out ATDHE.net?

  • CJD

This game just leaves me scratching my head; not to mention it is and was the worst case scenario for me.

I know everyone loves D Mo; but I just do not think he has as much upside as most here do. He has talent; you are not named the best player in LA as a senior if you do not have talent. But he just stops all ball movement when he handles the ball; as I have said before he just dribbles the air out of it far too often.

The most disciplined player on our team has to be the point guard and he simply is not.

As for the defensive side of the ball I just do not get the lack of defending the 3 ball; especially going under the screen on a regular basis.

Also as I have mentioned before and most hate the idea there may be times where Morgan and Horford should be on the floor at the same time in order to have better switches in the paint.

  • Brandon

They are still at the point where the need at least 30 solid minutes to win, that will go down as they young guys get older and we get some more ball-handlers in. They are good enough to hold home court against everyone but the elite Big 10 teams and maybe steal 1 or 2 they shouldn’t on the road.

Definite NIT, still have hopes for the bubble. Didn’t see anything tonight that discouraged that.

This loss has nothing to do with Coach B’s substituitions:
    – Stu was awful tonight. Feet looked bad on most of his shots
-Morgan got beat around all night- non existent on offense
-Morris will continue to struggle in Big Ten play. He can’t just dribble thru everyone in the Big 10 like he did in non-conference play. He is going to need to make some adjustments mentally or he is going to pick up those charge fouls.
    – Freshmen in the 2nd half

    + Novak’s shot looks good
+ Defense played about 25 seconds of good defense before giving up offensive rebound or open jumper
+ Vogrich hit a couple of big 3’s off the bench
+ Freshmen in the 1st half
