Note: This hot board is in no way a representation of the University of Michigan basketball program. It is simply a compilation of information about recruits that it appears Michigan is recruiting. Recruits are listed in no particular order. If I’m missing someone, don’t hesitate to shoot me an e-mail. The scholarship breakdown lives here.

Carlton Brundidge – COMMITMENT
brundidge

Guard, 6-foot-1 190 lbs
Southfield HS / The Family
Rivals: 4 star, #75
Scout: 4 star, #50
ESPN: 96/100, #67
Video: High School / AAU
Scouting: Big combo guard who can shoot and drive.  Quick for his size and a pure scorer.

Brundidge is Michigan’s lone commitment in the class of 2011 and he’s a bonafide scorer. Brundidge isn’t the biggest or most athletic player but he knows how to get to the rim and finish with contact. During the spring AAU period Brundidge routinely put up huge scoring totals on his opponents and simply refused to be stopped.

Sean Grennan
sean-grennan[1]

Guard, 6-foot-1 170 lbs
Monsignor Donovan, NJ / NJ ShoreShots
Rivals: N/R
Scout: N/R
ESPN: 84/100, #94 PG
Video: High School
Scouting: Impressive shooter who can also find his teammates.  Already has advanced space-making moves.

Grennan has visited Michigan and also made it in for Elite Camp. He is one to watch closely in July as he may be on the verge of landing a Michigan offer.

Kevin Pangos
204666[1]

Guard, 6-foot-1 175 lbs
Dr. J.M. Dennison HS
Rivals: N/R
Scout: N/R
ESPN: N/R
Video:
Scouting: Hailed by many as the next great Canadian point guard, Pangos describes his own game: “I have basketball I.Q, I have a shot, all that kind of stuff, but the things that I have to work on are different than everyone else. For me, I feel like I have to work on my athleticism which a lot of kids are gifted at; but they would need to work on their skills more.”

Pangos doesn’t play a lot of AAU ball but most recently he’s been in action with Canada’s U17 squad in Hamburg, Germany.

Pangos scored 26 points in Canada’s opener but also racked up 10 turnovers, 5 rebound and 4 assists. Pangos was most recently ranked the #5 player in Canada’s class of 2012 by Flagrant Fouls.

Pangos has offers from Gonzaga, Michigan, and Cincinnati and those schools are thought to have the leg up in his recruitment. There has been a lot of speculation over whether Pangos will be in the class of ‘11 or ‘12 and at this point it’s up in the air. We’ll leave him here for now.

Also on the radar: Patrick Lucas-Perry, Spencer Turner

Wings

Markus Crider
image_80730961[1]

Wing Forward, 6-foot-6 205lbs
Wayne HS / King James
Rivals: N/R
Scout: 2 star
ESPN: 88/100, #54 SF
Scouting: Talented and impressive physically. Must work on shooting and consistency.

Crider reportedly has offers from Michigan, Wisconsin, and DePaul however his consistency remains a huge red flag. Despite his high major athleticism and size, there are too many times when he is nearly invisible on the court.

Despite his consistency issues, Crider most recently visited Michigan for Elite Camp and is certainly one to watch throughout the July evaluation period.

Jonathan Gilling

gilling

Wing, 6-foot-7
Denmark
Scouting: “He is without doubt one of the biggest young talents, I know, and he is in force of his good head, physical / size, technique and high basketball IQ.”

Gilling is reportedly one of the top prospects in Denmark and he visited Ann Arbor this spring. Gilling is 19 years old but appears to be a 2011 prospects at this point. He has also visited Gonzaga and Boston College but not much more is known about his recruitment.

Gilling is expected to participate in the FIBA U20 European Championship (B Division) from July 14-24th with Denmark’s team.

Rod Days

639646[1]

Wing Forward, 6-foot-6 190 lbs
The Sagemont School, FL / Florida Rams
Rivals: 3-star
Scout: 3-star
ESPN: 91/100

Rod Days’ recruitment hasn’t been very publicized but there are a number of high major schools recruiting him. The athletic wing player has mentioned a potential visit to Michigan this fall ($) and is one of Michigan’s top wing targets.

Days has offers from Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Alabama, Wake Forest, Richmond, Central Florida, Maryland and Miami.

Eric Katenda

eric_katenda[1]

WF/PF, 6-foot-9 205 lbs
Chesire Academy, CT / Albany City Rocks
Rivals: 3 star, #123
Scout: 3 star
ESPN: 88/100

Katenda had a monster year for Chesire Academy, averaging 27 points and 13 rebounds per game, before getting a good start to the spring AAU period. However, he was sidelined with appendicitis and is slowly working his way back before rejoining the AAU circuit.

Katenda has offers from Notre Dame, Iowa, and Georgetown and is receiving interest from UConn, Michigan, St. John’s, West Virginia, and Oregon. He has talked about making a visit to Michigan but visit plans have yet to be finalized.

Tommie McCune

JTLsaginawheritagebball01[1]

WF/PF, 6-foot-7 185 lbs
Saginaw High / Dorian’s Pride
Rivals: 3-star, #149
Scout: 3-star
ESPN: 92/100
Scouting: Versatile big man who can play on the wing or in the post.  Impressive moves, quickness, and athleticism for his size. McCune is a four in high school but is working to develop his skills to play on the wing going forward.

McCune is on the Michigan radar but odds would point to him landing at Michigan State if the Spartans offer. Missouri, Baylor, South Carolina, Maryland, and Georgetown are several other schools that have shown interest in the Saginaw native.

Also on the radar: Aaron Thomas

Bigs

Amir Williams

brundidge-williams1[1]

Center, 6-foot-10 220 lbs
Detroit Country Day / The Family
Rivals: 4-star, #43
Scout: 4-star, #36
ESPN: 96/100, #26
Video: AAU / High School

Williams is the top 2011 big man in the state of Michigan and has the potential to be one of the best in the national as well. His size is every bit as advertised and he effects the game on both ends of the floor.

Williams has been up and down a bit on the spring AAU circuit but he’s still drawing interest from high majors across the nation. Williams has offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Duke, Kentucky, Texas, Purdue, Miami, Tennessee, and Pittsburgh and is also being recruited by North Carolina.

Jalen Reynolds

951894[1]

Center, 6-foot-9 210 lbs
Livonia / REACH Legends
ESPN: 89/100
Video: AAU / Interview
Scouting
: Gifted athlete who can score many different ways.  Good shot paired with surprising explosiveness given his size.

Jalen is one of the fastest rising 2011 prospects in the state of Michigan. Reynolds most recently picked up an offer from Xavier to go along with Central Michigan, Detroit, and Oakland. He has a great combination of athleticism and certainly has the potential to explode this July on the AAU circuit.

Trey McDonald

23146_100000742615014_1249_n[1]

Center, 6-foot-9 204 lbs
Battle Creek Central / Mustangs & Family
Video: AAU
Scouting: Lumbering big with a decent midrange shot and toughness.  Good rebounder but must improve quickness and inside post moves.

Post players are probably the toughest to evaluate at a young age. They can put everything together in a flash and go from uncoordinated to dominant. McDonald has been developing steadily and it remains to be seen how much better he can get. He well enough with The Family in LA to earn an invitation to the Amare Stoudemire Skills camp and reportedly continued to impress.

Michigan and Michigan State are both watching McDonald intently while several mid-majors have offered McDonald along with Iowa, Miami, and Arkansas. McDonald is certainly one to watch this July.

Marshall Plumlee

rtyhfg[1]

Center, 6-foot-11 210 lbs
Christ School, Arden, NC / Indiana Elite
Rivals: 4-star, #99
Scout: 4-star, #32
ESPN: 96/100, #34
Video: AAU

Plumlee is the younger brother of Duke standouts Miles and Mason Plumlee. He’s an active and athletic big man who has all the potential in the world.

Marshall has visited Michigan but at this point it appears that he’s much more likely to head to the ACC. Virginia, Duke, and North Carolina are rumored to be the top three schools left in the running for the third Plumlee. Michigan and Wisconsin remain options as well.

Cody Zeller

8e9fe7c8d719af5b[1]

PF/Center, 6-foot-10.5 200 lbs
Washington HS, IN / Indiana Elite
Rivals: 4-star, #35
Scout: 4-star, #23
ESPN: 96/100, #30
Video: High School

Zeller’s older brothers were both high major players (UNC and Notre Dame) and similar to Marshall Plumlee, the third Zeller is a high major big man as well. Zeller has drawn interest from all over the country and Michigan doesn’t appear to be in the strongest position.

Butler and Indiana are considered two of the local favorites but Purdue, Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Wake Forest, and many others remain involved.

Darren Washington

darren-washington-thumb-520x390-23225[1]

PF/Center, 6-foot-10, 220 lbs
Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard, MI / The Family
Scouting: Rail-thin post player with a decent midrange shot and soft touch. Must improve rebounding.

Washington is on Michigan’s radar but the Gabriel Richard big man only has mid major offers at this point. With some strong play in July he could begin to garner more attention.

Also on the radar: Mitch McGary, Justin Gant
