Video Interview: Javontae Hawkins

Here’s a quick update with Flint Powers/Team Detroit 2012 guard Javontae Hawkins from the Great Lakes Summer Championship. Hawkins has a Michigan offer and continues to pick up more as the summer wears on.

Have to like his response regarding LLP’s dismissal. Sounds like he knows what’s up.

Glad to hear (so far) we’re #1

course that other school can easily swoop in and change minds…

  • Chief

Very interesting response to the Lucas-Perry question.

  • Bluebufoon

Haven’t watched the video yet but MSU has Brandon Dawson, Mike Shaw and Gary Harris over the next two years rated ahead of Hawkins– its going to be very hard for Sparty to make a run at this kid late.

  • Bluebufoon

Looks like I was wrong, Hawkins is quoted elsewhere as saying he is going to wait until spring of 2012 to decide and the kid does speak glowingly of Sparty. If Hawkins timeline is true, and I were Beilein I’d go ahead and offer Stauskas and I wouldn’t wait around on Hawkins.

Sparty already has commitments from wing players Brandon Kearney, Duante Anderson and they are in the thick of it for Dawson, Shaw and Harris (over the next two classes) — yet Hawkins is still interested in Sparty. If I’m Michigan I don’t make the Zeigler mistake twice, U-M should actively pursue Stauskas and Harris in 2012 and not prioritize Hawkins.

U-M should give Hawkins a take it or leave it offer, by a date of Beilein’s choosing and dictate to these kids, if you want Michigan then this is how its going to be.

Looks like the U20 European Championship is under way. Denmark has played only one game so far, a 79-65 loss to Great Britain. Jonathan Gilling scored eight points on 2-5 3pts and 2-2 FTs to go along with three rebounds, one assist, four steals, and eight(!) turnovers in 39 minutes.

Here’s the correct link for the Horford article.

Agree with Bluebufoon 100%. No reason to wait and spend effort for a recruit when his heart is clearly somewhere else.

  • Kenny

Seems like Stauskas picked the offer, hope that he will make his decision soon.

  • Brian W

Kenny, nice catch. The Wolverine has the info on Stauskas picking up an offer. Would be great to have a commitment soon and get the 2012 class started.

  • Joe got a hold of Stauskas who confirmed that Michigan has offered. Update is on the front page.

  • JRose

The only thing that bothers me about CB’s stats is the poor assist to turnover ratio. That makes me feel like he was definately recruited as a 2 guard and not so much as a pg…nonetheless, I am still very happy to have CB in the fold! Here’s to a quick decision by Stauskas! Go Blue!!

  • When high school kids’ stats are officially recorded like that, the guards almost always come out looking badly.

Knowing how U-M’s coaches feel about Hawkins, have a hard time envisioning them just moving on if someone else commits.

The actual spelling is Dwaun Anderson.
