Thursday Bullets: Draft and Transfer Edition

There have been a smorgasbord of NBA draft, transfer, commitment, and coaching updates over the last few days. There will undoubtedly be a few more before the May 8th draft withdrawal deadline but here is a run-down of some recent announcements:

  • Brian W

Dylan, some nice updates this week.

The Wear twins leaving UNC could possibly complicate things with Amir Williams too.

Hopefully Borseth can pull in some good players between now and the time that Kotny can graduate from high school. He can coach, which he proved last season.

It doubt it's the sticky, humid summer days and hurricanes that's suddenly attracting players to Central Florida.

Dylan, sorry for the slow reply; can't post at work.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm just one of the many posters here who makes this a vibrant little community of U-M basketball lovers. If I find some links that others might appreciate, like the Colton videos yesterday, I'll post 'em. I've appreciated the contributions of other posters (Tweeter, Mattski, Ypsituckey, Wayman, Fresh, Jblair, and many many others), where they post news, links, or their take on U-M basketball. It's what makes this a great place to visit. Between my real job, in-progress web site, and other things, I'm probably contributing as much as I have time for through my periodic posting (hopefully I'm not posting too many links).

What makes this a great place to visit is that you and the people who post their comments care about U-M basketball.

When you run a web site, you reap what you sow. The paid U-M web sites sometimes forget that when it comes to their basketball boards; if you run the site and don't care about posting there, eventually other people won't care either. It's obvious that you care about U-M basketball and this site, and you take the time to answer people's basketball questions and give your two cents. Umhoops is a great web site, and you've done a great job growing it.

^ I concur. Thanks for your work.

As a Chicagoan, I'd just like to see some good college basketball in the city, and with every new DePaul coach (seemingly every year), I have a little optimism for the Demons — mostly to an end that might see them build a hoops facility that's, you know, ACTUALLY IN THE CITY! (Come on, Vatican. In the name of Ray Meyer, this is a good way to spend some of that gold.) So, yeah, enter Oliver Purnell — I'm all “Go get 'em Tiger!” (Unless Beilein ever decides to recruit Chicago, of course.) Now — friggin Ellerbe?!?! Here's the thing about Ellerbe — he should do something with soup. I've always thought he should peddle his own line of canned gourmet soups. Or maybe join the U.S. Army Catering Corps and serve soup to our Joes. Something with soup. I have not even one bit of evidence that B.E. can cook anything at all, but something about him always told me that success for him lay along a brothy or perhaps cream-based path — not coaching basketball.

Speaking of recruiting Chicago, didn’t I read somewhere here that our new assistant had some Chicago connection? Or maybe Chicago was one of his regions? As far as I know, there are no Chicago kids on our radar though, right?

Amir Williams is participating in the camp to determine who will play on the 2010 USA Men's Under 18 team. Keith Appling is participating also. Oklahoma's Jeff Capel was named as head coach today.

Wow 77 underclassmen declared for the NBA draft. Hope Harris makes it in the NBA, but he should start taking some foreign language classes.

I don't think Borseth should offer an eighth grader, that's not the kind of reputation we want at UM. This is not fair to the girl or good for college recruiting.

UM made a big miss in not going hard after Brust. Mark my words he can play and score from any location. I have watched him for three years at my son's school (Mundelein High School). He can shoot the three ball, drive and grabs rebounds above the rim.
Wisconsin got a great one if he goes there.

Interesting. I don't know much about Burst but it seems pretty clear that Michigan wants to add some kind of combo forward to their class.

  • Brian W

Well, Michigan won't be adding Marcus Thornton to the roster. He's eliminated Michigan according to AJC.

Brian, you had this posted before I could even open up my e-mail. Nice scoop :-)

  • Brian W

Wish it would have been better news, but at least he dropped Kentucky at the same time.
