According to Indiana’s News Center, Dane Fife has turned down an assistant coaching job at Michigan to remain at IPFW. Fife refused to specify whether he was officially offered the job but it is clear that both parties discussed the open position. Here’s a updated report from the News Sentinel:

Fife has been involved in “conversations” with both Michigan and Indiana regarding vacant assistant coaching positions; he said Monday, however, he anticipates being at IPFW next season.

“I am not pursuing the assistant coaching position at Michigan,” Fife said. “I expect to be at IPFW next year.”

He admitted having talks with Wolverine coach John Beilein about the job, but refrained from explaining as to whether any offer was made.

“Those talks are to remain private,” Fife said.

Will be interesting to see who gets the next job offer from Beilein…

Manny Harris is working out in Las Vegas with personal trainer Joe Abunassar of Impact Basketball.

I don't feel to bad about this. I'm sure Dane is waiting for a head coaching position at a major school. Another year or two he will get an offer to be a head coach at a major conference.

Back to the drawing board or Plan B? We have no idea that this was Plan A- he could be covering his tracks since he was out looking while on contract. I have full confidence that Coach will find the right fit for the program…

Maybe he wasn't offered the job.

According to the Fort Wayne News Sentinel, he wouldn't say whether he was offered, only that Beilein had talked with him about the position.

Good call MaizeBlue3…let's not get ahead of ourselves here. The report Dylan posted is 2nd hand from a local news station. I live in Southern California and the local news here is bad, I can only imagine what it is like in the Fort Wayne, Indiana area.

Based on some tea leaves I beginning to think Beilein reached out to Fife to gauge interest and Fife may have expressed to JB that he wants to stay. That is something that is much different than Fife actually going the the formal interview process and getting a legit job offer.

Maybe I have maize-and-blue shades on, but this smacks of Michigan-hatin' on the part of “Indiana's News Center.” If Fife wouldn't confirm he was offered the job, how would these guys know? Sounds like they just want to make Michigan look bad.

Added the updated story from the News Sentinel (Thanks MB J), it has some better quotes.

A lot of rumors had Fife pegged as one of the favorites for the position.. FWIW.

Being from Fort Wayne, Indiana's News Center is the ABC affiliate and it's pretty legit interms of news and reporting in my experience. Their sports guys have been there for a long time and while I'm sure they would want to spin this in favor of the home squad, I'd seriously dobt thy'd misquote someone FWIW.

Yeah, those are definitely some tinted shades you have on.

I don't see this as some kind of big humiliation, honestly. Believe me, he didn't reject the job because it was Michigan.
