In other news, the Class A all-state team was released today. Michigan targets Trey Zeigler and Jon Horford were both named to the first team while junior commitment Carlton Brundidge earned honorable mention. Maurice “Pookie” Jones was named Class A player for the year. The full squad can be found here.

Sorry, I live in Texas–how does michigan classify high schools? Do Trey and horford and sykes play at the largest classification? What about brundidge?

  • J-Turn14

From largest to smallest: A-B-C-D. All the guys you mentioned are in class A.

    required recruiting roundup listening:

Sam says Sykes, Zeigler, and Hardaway all want playing time. He says none of them want to redshirt, and that is why he does not think Michigan takes 3 from this class unless Manny goes pro, because if Manny stays there just aren’t enough minutes to satisfy 3 combo guard/wing types.

So what comes first, signing day or the deadline for Manny to enter his name into the draft?

  • gpsimms

and, after some callers argue with sam there is room for both, sam disagrees. he said sykes said PT was his number one factor.

IMO, I think we do have room for more athletic wing types. Beilein once said he has always sort of mused about having a team of 5 athletic 6’6″ who can run and score in lots of different ways. (kind of like the OSU starting 5, i think). I think Beilein is clearly showing that everyone who doubted he would go after athletes was full of crap.

So anyway, I say, the more wings the better and let’s just be fast and run the best 1-3-1 ever and cause a million turnovers and score in transition…(and, hopefully shoot better than 29% from deep)

It’s not on the site yet, but per Rivals Jon Horford has commited to Michigan.

NBA early entry deadline: April 27th.
NBA early entry withdrawal deadline: May 8th.
    NCAA signing day: April 14th.

Trey has said he plans to announce on the 14th I’m pretty sure. No one knows Sykes’ timeline, but Webb suggested since his recruitment has picked up recently, he will probably take some visits and be more likely to decide later rather than sooner.

Also interesting Trey has said he’d rather have Manny stay, but it almost seems like sykes might rather have him gone. I’m ready for all this to get figured out.

good first step, just saw the horford news.

Did the MHSAA stream crap out for everyone else right when the game was starting?

  • Brick

Started working again. Missed the first quarter.

  • 43-22 at the half. Huron leading Southfield. Brundidge and SF can’t deal with Huron’s athleticism.

  • Brundidge with 12 pts thru 3. Picked up his 4th foul with .7 left in the third. Huron up 60-43. Not his best night.

  • Brundidge is in serious pain after taking some knocks in the second half. Doing his best to gut it out but won’t be enough.

CB has 22 but Sf trails 73-64 with 44 seconds left

Good to see Coach B and staff and Horford to the fold today… be an interesting couple days before signing day..

Wow Denby plays no defense at all. I’m almost less sold on Sykes after seeing him play. He’s lazy on defense, lazy when he doesn’t have the ball, and he took a lot of wild shots. On the flip side, he was easily the most athletic guy I saw today. So if Beilein could coach him well, I think Sykes could be a great player.
