Michigan Adds Two Recruits in Early Signing Period

It apparently took a while but Michigan has received a letter of intent from Tim Hardaway Jr. and Evan Smotrycz. For more on Michigan’s pair of signees, here are their commitment articles: Hardaway Jr., Smotrycz.

Here are the obligatory Beilein quotes:

“These are two multi-dimensional players that are very capable of playing several different positions,” said Beilein. “They have good length. They are outstanding shooters. They have a good feel for the game with high basketball IQs. They have great court vision. What really impresses me is their ability to pass which will be valuable down the road.”

On Hardaway:

“The biggest thing about Tim is he has a pretty jump shot,” said Beilein. “If you look at Manny’s (Harris) jump shot right now, it is perfect, and Tim’s is pretty close to that point early with his development. It’s got great form, great spin and has a chance to go in every time. He is a very athletic player and like I said before his vision on the court in outstanding.”

On Smotrycz:

“Evan can play three different positions for us,” said Beilein. “It is his versatility, great size and shooting ability which we like. Being 6-9, it is rare to see someone shoot it like he does. But what I really like is that he is an exceptional passer. His potential is outstanding.”

excited to have em both… welcome to the university of michigan boys

Another big guy who can pass just what can make this offense work. It will be great to see 5 guys on the court at the same time who can pass and shoot. Beilein time, cool.

Welcome Tim and Evan – you will never regret being a part of the maize and blue tradition!

Shooting and passing obviously are two aspects that Beilein values the most. Seems to me that Beilein sees the potential of Tim Jr. playing PG down the road. Hope that he will pick up some crossover moves from his daddy before arriving in campus.

Don’t know too much about Evan but what Ive seen from Hardawary Jr, the kid can really hoop. Looking forward to seeing both in the coming years. Now if we could somehow nab Zeigler we’d be sitting real pretty.
